Prologue
He watched as she struggled to let go of their mother’s hold. He watched as beads of tears rolled down her face like raindrops racing down on the smooth surface of windows. He watched as she fought and screamed his name.
“Kai! Kai! I want to go with you! Kai!”
He watched as she kicked and pulled.
He watched as her eyes started to be filled with rage and sadness a seven-year-old shouldn’t have to deal with.
“Kai! Don’t leave me! Please. . . please.” A pause. Silence followed as she locked her eyes with his. He held her brown eyes as long as he could. A second or two later, he looked away. “No! Malachi! Don’t leave me!”
He watched as she slowly disappeared from his sight. He watched as her heart got crushed.
He only watched.
