Today, You Died

I'm sorry, but today wasn't enjoyable for you, because today you died!

You were exploring through a jungle near a babbling river, the sun warmed your face, and the mist of the river caressed your skin. The air was thick with the smells of nature as you climbed over jagged rocks. You heard a splash, and turned to see a majestic peacock bass glisten in the sunlight. As soon as the fish disappeared into the water your attention was drawn towards a colossal mango tree, the branches vanished into the clouds, as bright, succulent mangoes gleamed in the sunlight.

Curiosity and rumblings in your stomach compelled you to wade into the water. The coolness of it lapped around your ankles as you waded further in; the water soon rose to your waist. Halfway to the other side of the tranquil river, you felt a strange sensation in your legs. Unsure of what caused it, you looked down, but all you saw was murky water.

Therefore, you continued making your way to the mango tree, which lied only a couple feet away. The sensation returned and escalated to a thunderbolt of pain, which seared up your legs like electricity.

Adrenaline surged through you as you half-ran and half-swam to shore. You slipped and nearly fell a couple of times as pain seared through you. As you tried to get up from the third fall, you saw swirls of scarlet in the water. Fear shot through your body as you nearly ran across water to shore.

A sigh of relief escaped your lips as you encountered the muddy shoreline. It didn't last though, because as soon as you looked down at your legs you saw thousands of plump, black leeches feasting on your blood. Revulsion and utmost fear consumed you as you tried to swat them off, but to no avail. The vampiric creatures kept sucking your blood, imbibed your lifeblood, as rivulets of scarlet crisscrossed your legs. You tried to get up, but you stumbled and collapsed in a heap. A scream escaped you, but no one came, because you were in the middle of the Amazon, alone. You knew no one would come, but you hoped with all your heart that someone would.

Three hours passed, your voice was hoarse, and some, but not all, of the leeches left. Screaming was no longer possible; you tried to crawl away, but to no avail. The pain was just too much and you had nowhere to go. Your backpack, which contained food, water, a first aid kit, and everything, was washed away. You had nothing, but the wet clothes on your back and a faint glint of hope, which disappeared over the horizon. Darkness descended and enveloped you; your only light source was some kind of glowing mushroom. The canopy of trees blocked out the stars and the moon; as the sounds of the night shrouded you as trepidation consumed your mind.

The temperature began to drop as your skin turned to gooseflesh. The leeches never left, because they were addicted to your blood. Some left with full bellies, but it seemed like when one left, another materialized in its place. A faint smile crossed your features as the pain numbed and you lost feeling everywhere. Your mind didn't scurry to the thought that this was a bad thing. No, you just felt relieved that the pain ebbed. You couldn't move, but your eyes spied a low hanging branch, which glistened with luscious mangoes. Your stomach demanded food, but the fruit was out of reach. You could see it, smell it, but never have it. It was tortuous and all you wanted to do was scream, but you couldn't. Your voice was nonexistent as was your strength. You lost hope long ago and you wished for death to come, but it didn't. Your teeth begin to chatter, and you could see that your skin turned pale and almost blue. Black dots crossed your vision and soon you fell into an eternal darkness as the last of your life was drained away.

A twisted smile, a look of hauteur, and emptiness flecked your cold, dead eyes. You were never found, but you were missed. When the leeches were through, other animals fed on your flesh, but you never felt it, because you were dead.

I wish I could say you had an enjoyable day, but you died and I am what killed you. I couldn't help myself your blood tasted, so, very, very good, and after all, I live on it. It’s the circle of life.
