Flashback - Tenth Birthday
Rachel POV
I walk out of my bedroom. I just got dressed for the day, my birthday to be exact. My parents always get me the best things. The only downside to my birthday is my dad isn't home and my brother's best friend, Holden, is always over. My mom says I won't understand until I'm older.
"Hey, Shelly!" Holden calls as soon as I walk out of my room. I roll my eyes and start walking. To the stairs. "Rachel!" He calls again and runs up to me. Tripping over an action figure, he topples over me.
The next thing I know, Holden's getting off of me. His face is as white as a ghost as he runs off calling my mom's name. She runs over and she turns pale too.
"Um, Holden, Sweetheart, go get Max and tell him to get to the car please. Bring out a bag of ice or something cold. She'll be in pain by the time we get to the hospital," My mother bends down and picks me up. Holden runs off to get my brother. I still have no idea what's going on.
"Mommy? What's going on?" I ask.
"You have a broken leg. Don't you feel it?" She says opening the car door.
"Now I do," I say quietly, letting her buckle me in. She walks to the other side of the car and buckles herself in. She starts the car when she sees the front door open. Max gets in the passenger seat and Holden sits next to me. He puts a bag of ice on my knee which, I'm assuming, where I broke it.
"Rachel, are you okay?" My mom asks softly. I don't respond because I'm trying not to cry. "Rachel?"
"Rachel! Mom needs to know so we can help you!" Max barks, causing me to start sobbing. I shake my head and tell her that it hurts really badly.
I feel Holden's free hand grasp mine as he whispers, "We want to help you."
