Looking For Love

Summary

“We can save the rest for dinner I guess,” Jin said as he began to pick up the empty dishes. “Oh am I staying for dinner today as well?” Namjoon asked as he helped Jin. “I was hoping you would,” “Namjoon?” Jin called out to him softly, stirring him out of his own head as he immediately snapped his eyes up to meet Jin’s. “Hmm?” He hummed in response. “Do you like me?” Jin asked, catching Namjoon off guard. “Uh… I mean yes. Who wouldn’t like you?” Namjoon answered after a moment. “No, I mean do you like, like me?” Jin persisted. “I… yea I do,” Namjoon admitted wondering why Jin was asking so suddenly. “Hmm… so why won’t you ask me out? I thought you were going to last time but you didn’t.” “I… well… I wasn’t sure if you were ready for that… I wanted to ask you last time but I got the feeling you weren’t quite ready so I decided to wait.” “...You read me so well… I like that about you,” Jin said smiling at Namjoon. And then before Namjoon could process anything he felt a pair of soft lips on his own. It took him a whole five seconds to process that Jin was kissing him! His mind blanked and his eyes widened, but then he felt the elder tense up and it seemed he was about to pull away. That’s when Namjoon realized he hadn’t kissed back!

Prologue

“I still can’t believe you did something like this.” Jin said as he looked at the black haired girl in front of him. His emotions were all a jumble and he didn’t know what to think. It was all to surreal, the things in movies. Something that shouldn’t have happened to him. He really had loved her, but she wasn’t even his, never had been, in fact.

“Jin-” She began but was cut off.

“No. Don’t ‘Jin’ me Hannah. You don’t get to after lying about something like this.” Jin said, anger clearly laced into his voice. But more than anger he was sad. Once again, he was disappointed by someone he’d come to love. Jin had really hoped this was it. That he’d finally found someone who would be with him forever. It had all seemed perfect after all. The fairy tale story where you meet your highschool crush again and this time things work out. You find your much more compatible now, that the breakup than was needed. The time apart had made the heart grow fonder, all that lovely bullshit. But that really was all it was, bullshit, none of that actually happened, at least not to him.

“But-” She began but Jin shook his head stopping her.

“No. Don’t try too even explain yourself. What is there to explain anyway?” Jin asked bitterly as he looked away from her.

“...I’m sorry.” Hannah said after a moment of silence.

“Yeah…you should be….how could you do this to me Hannah? To yourself? To your husband?” Jin asked. He still was having a hard time wrapping his mind around the fact this woman was married.

“I...I don’t know...it...it just happened...I do love you Jin…” She said, her voice growing smaller and smaller with each word. Jin scoffed.

“You love me? Then are you going to leave your husband for me?” Jin questioned, knowing full well that even if she said yes, he didn’t want her anymore. If she could cheat on her husband with him, who’s to say she wouldn’t cheat on him with someone else as well. Thankfully or maybe not thankfully, she didn’t say yes. She didn’t make any sort of response in fact. Jin waited a few seconds before sighing.

“See. You can’t even answer me, because you know you won’t do it….Just answer me this Hannah...why me?” Jin asked.

“I don’t know...it was different with you...it’s always been different with you.” She replied and Jin knew at least that was the truth. It had always been different between them. They had so much history together, they had such a rich childhood together, that’s why Jin had thought this was it. She was perfect for him in any way a human could be. But still...it just wasn’t meant to be.

Sighing once more Jin spoke up again, “Let’s end this Hannah...I won’t tell your husband about this but only because we were once best friends. Don’t expect any other favors from me….I hope you won’t do this again with someone else.” Hannah didn’t say anything and Jin had nothing more to say.

“Well...I guess I should go. I wish you the best in life Hannah, but I sincerely hope we never meet again.” Jin said as he grabbed his coat and got up, he walked towards the exit of the cafe, ready to move on and leave everything about Hannah behind. But he knew it would be hard for him, despite everything, he had really loved her, and the amount of history between them didn’t help matters at all. Hannah had never been someone he could forget, not even when they had stopped talking while in college. Jin had always thought about Hannah, she was always the one that got away in his mind, but it seemed this time it was final. This time he had to let go. He had to stop thinking of her, and truly move on even if it would be one of the hardest things he’d ever done.
