Summary

This is about a 17 yr. old teen who decides to fight crime in his neighborhood, and city. He decides he needs an alter ego; since he is a Master of Disguise, he decides he will be the Chameleon. This novel follows the exploits of Bobby Sunrise, a.k.a. the Chameleon; and his three best friends as they fight real crime in New York City. He deals with neighborhood crimes, often as himself, but also as the Chameleon if needed. In this novel he takes on two really big cases. First he must deal with saving about a 1000 people, including his mom and her finance. Her fiance is the New Police Commissioner; also the Mayor of N.Y. City, and hundreds of political persons, and business men and their wives. They have been taken hostage by Terrorists. Because Bobby is familiar with the Police an Swat tactics; he decides to rescue himself. He does not want the Police, or Swat barging in; guns blazing, there will be too many injuries and deaths. He devises his own plan, and it is successful, with no injuries or killing. He becomes a hero of the City. Next he is called in by the new Police Commissioner to help him solve what he believes are murders; even though they appear to be legitimate suicides. There have been just too many in too short a time, not to have something or someone behind them. So the Chameleon agrees to help the new Police Commissioner Bill Thompson.

Prologue

You are about to read a wonderfully entertaining, and very realistic story; which actually has a number of stories within. This novel has no magic wands, no magic at all, no vampires, no magic spells, or absurd references to doodlwap or whatever other made up words you may have read in other stories. This is a story set back in 1980, about a 17 year old teen, who because of a terrible occurrence in his life; and the subsequent climax, became the Chameleon. Bobby Sunrise, along with his best Friend and mentor Peter Chow, who was born in China, and has lived here for about 10 years. Pete started learning Kung Fu when he was 6 years old, and taught Bobby, who then became a black belt in Kung Fu; a Master in martial arts. Bobby has a great girl friend, her name is Kelly; and another close friend, George, who is black. Bobby lives with his mother Diane, who is a widow; her husband, and Bobby’s father, died in Vietnam; and his sister.

It is Bobby’s sister who actually was responsible for Bobby deciding to fight crime; and become the Chameleon. She was brutally attacked last spring, and shot full of heroin; leaving her an almost comatose state for months. She remembered nothing, so the police had nothing to go on. To solve the case. That did not stop Bobby, who along with Pete, found the three teens responsible; and beat them black and blue, before turning them over to then Sgt. Bill Thompson. Bobby and his friends solved 9 criminal cases, with the final case being the biggest drug bust in New York city history. Bill’s career leaped ahead in bounds, since Bobby as the Chameleon turned over each one of these cases to Bill, to make him sky rocket to the top. Bobby had another hobby before all this, and turned that hobby to his advantage; for Bobby is also a Master of disguise. There is also Bill Thompson, who is Diane’s fiance; and soon to be the New Police Commissioner. Bobby has a great relationship with his mom and sister; as well as Bill. He sets a wonderful example of how such a relationship could, and should be. Bobby and his friends, who know that Bobby is the Chameleon, deal with bullies, and Bobby as himself fought 5 gang leaders in a row; that were trying to take over his school, and he beat them. He and his friends had to also save his mom, Bill, the Mayor and 100’s of others from Terrorists; who took them hostage. Then the final case, solving how the rash of supposed suicides was as he believed to really be murders; and he does. It is an exciting, wonderfully interactive, realistic story. It is not based on make believe, it is based on real life, stories that could be the ones you see on the news. It is not fantasy; it proves that a Teen who has no super powers, along with his great friends, can make a difference in their community, in their school. He realizes he is facing danger when he takes on a case, or is called on to save 100’s as with the Terrorists.

He is called upon by the New Police Commissioner to help him not only prove these supposed suicides are indeed murders; but to also catch this murderer, and bring him to justice. It proves to be a most difficult case, the police are baffled, and so far have found no proof these are anything but legitimate suicides. The Mayor has ordered Bill Thompson to get to the bottom of it; so Bill calls upon the Chameleon to help him solve this case. Bobby and his friends also set an example of what wonderful teens, that help out in their community and neighborhood should be like. Kelly is the computer whiz, smartest of the group; and George plays football; but all get at least B + grades, well Kelly gets A’s. If you want a story you will have trouble putting down, this is it. It will be enjoyed by all ages from I’d say, age 13 to adult. Find a hero you can look up to, who is as real as you are; who sets wonderful examples; of what teens can really be like, in their own school, and neighborhood. I know you will enjoy this novel, and find it very exciting, interesting; even showing you how unique it was setting up a computer system, when personal computers were just beginning to emerge. They ride really hot motorcycles, and have the best gear they could get or make, for their endeavors. Special note; Bobby refuses to kill anyone, his weapons and skill are not the type that kill; no guns, no bullets. If you really enjoyed this novel; please let me know, thank you; and enjoy.
