Encounter with a stranger
“Who the hell are you?”, I jumped off the chair and tried to suppress my scream.
“Don’t be scared. I am not going to harm you. In fact, I can’t harm you at all,” he said in a comforting tone.
“How have you entered the room? I lock my study room, before I start working on my projects,” I was still trembling.
“It’s easy for me to transcend locked doors. I am your God. I am your soul Rahul,” his voice modulation was so smooth and comforting that I started to loosen up and my fear vanished.
“Hey, look you conman or a prankster, I am not going to get trapped in your nonsense. Where is the hidden camera? I need to fire my housekeeper immediately for allowing you to play this prank on me. How much have you paid him?”
I was trying to get hold on the situation and I saw him going into a contemplation mode and he stayed there for a minute or so.
“C’mon, speak up! I have already discovered that you are a prankster, so accept it now,” I was getting back my self-confidence.
He spoke after a little awkward silence, “ Look Rahul, I will display a very common phenomenon which you must have seen in hundreds of supernatural movies to establish my truth. Hope we can then discuss the matter for which I am before you.”
He swung out of the door and entered the room again and then I saw his upper part of the body emerging through door and the lower part invisible as it was outside the room. He was half in and half out.
“Whoa,” I gasped in surprise and I pinched myself hard enough to make sure that I was not dreaming. I was not. He was right, it did remind me watching a supernatural movie.
He rested his behind on a couch and said, “Can we talk now?”
“About what?” I sunk in the couch nearby.
“About your life so far and then the purpose I am here for.”
“What is the purpose?” I wanted to cut this conversation short and get it over with.
“No, first about your life. I would like to project few scenes of your life before you and then we talk about the purpose.”
I realized that I can’t fight or run away with this all pervading visitor.
All I could say, “Ok.”
I saw a beam of ray emerging from his chest and the projection getting clearer on the wall in front of us.
I heard him saying, “scene number one.”
I saw a pair of beautiful innocent eyes gazing straight ahead and then turning their focus down to the ground by lowering the head. It was me three years old then. I felt traversing from the present and landing in the body of three years old child. I was one with it.
I smelled it again. I remember that the aroma was not very different than the other days but my curiosity was on the highest level that day. I sat down looked at the specimen and without any hesitation poked my finger into it.
I pulled my finger out and brought it near my tongue when I heard a scream, “no, honey, stop!” I watched my mother running towards me and then felt her grabbing me in her arms but it was too late.
I had just tasted my crap.
The beam of rays discontinued and the picture stopped running.
“So you are here to embarrass me for my childhood actions.” I complained.
“No, this is just a starter, I wanted you to relax and remember the funny moments before we switch over to some serious stuff.” He smiled gracefully. The amazing thing about him is that his tone, his smile, his overall disposition was genuinely appeasing and comfortable.
“Hmm, really?”
“Only a child can act in such way to quench his curiosity for truth.” He reciprocated.
“I don’t get your point.”
“As a child you are not embarrassed about your actions to seek for truth or reality but as you grow older you become accustomed to the society’s model created by your ancestors and follow them for the rest of your life even when you know that you are capable of finding better routes to success. You start suppressing your real existence especially when you are rewarded all the time by the system for being a good follower.”
“That’s not true. There are people those who have come out of the box and did amazing discoveries.” I defended my existence.
“Yes, but how many? Tell me if they are more than five percent?”
“Ya, but you are wrong.” I don’t know why I was feeling naked by saying that.
“Right or wrong, do you still believe in this? Let’s go to scene number two.”
There was a knock on the door.
“Honey, I am going to bed. How long you gonna take?”
“That’s your wife. Tell her that you will work until late night,” He commanded.
“Sweety, I am done and will join you in five minutes,” was my response.
He shrugged his shoulders in disappointment and said. “Pity, I thought you will understand the gravity of the situation.”
“Please leave and don’t scare my wife.” I pleaded and rushed towards the door knowing that he can still follow me no matter wherever I go or with whomever, I accompany with.
I was just hoping that he will not bother my wife and fortunately he did not.
I could not tell my wife about him. After a brief conversation on the daily routine activities, I switched off the table lamp beside our bed.
“My energy is flushed out darling. I will try to get some sleep. Goodnight.” I said to her.
“Ok, goodnight.” I could sense the disappointment in her tone.
I closed my eyes fearing that my so called soul might pop up again but he seemed too gentleman to bother me against my wish.
I was unable to sleep and slowly started reflecting the life I spent. This time my memory was projecting scenes on the inner walls of my head, one after another.
I remembered my troubled childhood and my childhood friends named Nathan and Alisha. Suddenly my memory got me to a task of focusing on a peculiar face and within seconds I found myself clinching my fist tightly. I made a loud noise of contempt and pounded my fist on bed. My wife was awake.
“Rahul, what happened? Are you alright?”
“Yes, I am fine darling, just a bad dream. Don’t worry, I am Ok.” I responded.
“Why do you worry so much? I am sure you will be able to close the deal.” She tried to soothe me.
“I am not worried about the deal honey. I already closed it today.” I said.
“What? You didn’t tell me until now?” She was happily angry.
“Oh, I was about to but then I was so tired and you seemed tired too.” I fumbled in my speech.
“What is the matter with you? You just increased your bank balance by half a million bucks... and you were too tired to celebrate?” She frowned.
“Alright, alright, I lied. I was trying to give you a surprise with an expensive gift. I did not have enough time to buy it today so I was waiting until tomorrow.” I actually lied by giving this false statement. How could I tell her about the bizarre story of soul.
“No worries about the gift honey. Congratulations!” she smooched me for more than a minute. I felt better, of course. We did chat for next few minutes and she understood that I must be very tired for not participating well in any conversational lead, she was throwing at me.
“You seem thirsty?” She said.
“Yes, and tired too. Sorry darling, as much as I would love to chat with you, I must sleep now.” I felt sorry for being such a spoiler.
“I understand sweety, c’mon drink water and sleep.” She whispered.
“Sure, good night darling.” I kissed on her forehead before reaching out the glass of water placed on the bed side table.
I gulped down half the glass of water and within next ten minutes, I was digging the past again without any prompt from the soul. The soul had achieved his objective.
