Chapter 1

Life is truly funny, it's ironic how the first man to ever call me pretty had a knife pointed at my throat, add to that he said he wants to marry me. The knife digs deeper into my neck, and I feel my knees get weak. God I pray please don't let him hurt me. Please just let it be quick, I don't want to be chopped up into teeny tiny pieces and...."

Hey, lady did you just hear me? I said open the door."

I breathe in deeply “please sir, don't do this I'll give you whatever you want here take it" I hand him my oversized purse. He snatches it roughly from my hand and slams my body harder into the wall" Didn't I just tell you to open the door do you have a hearing problem?" I swallow the lump in my throat" n-n- no sir I don't I just.....He threw my bag on the floor causing all its contents to spill out, then he dropped down and picked up the keys" here I found them now open the fucking door." I nod grabbing them from his hand I move slowly the knife is no longer at my throat but his arm is tight around my neck. I open the door slowly and step on my welcome mat, this was usually my favorite part of the day. The part when I was able to relax in my home, even though it was located in a seedy bad part of Chinatown, filled with poverty, drugs, and crime it was still my home. But not anymore because finally my fears had come true I'm about to be robbed and killed.

"Sit down on the couch NOW"

As I tiptoe carefully around my tiny living room I hear him curse as he trips over one of my many flower pots on the floor." Damn it what the hell lady, you planting a garden in here or something."

"Um s-sorry would you like me to turn on the light the switch is right next....."

"NO, he shouts that would be a very bad idea, whatever you do don't turn on the light"

"But why?"

"Because then you'll be able to see me you idiot, God don't you watch T.V. people never have their lights on when they're being robbed,"

I fidget nervously" Oh sorry I didn't mean to...I mean I don't watch T.V., I don't even have a television because you know cable's expensive and so violent and....

He sighs" Just shut up and sit down Jordana"

I hurriedly plop down on the couch then I glance up and look at him but it's too dark to see. The room is covered in pitch black darkness, but still I can see the shiny gleam of the huge knife. Although the knife scares me, the thought of being in a room with a strange man in complete darkness frightens me even more. Plus the fact that this complete stranger knows my name. He called me Jordana how on Earth does he....

I look up startled as I hear the screeching sound of my steel metal chair scape against the tile floor. My eyes adjust to the dark room and I see his tall figure sit down in front of me. “Listen very carefully, because I'm not one to repeat myself. For the next few minutes you’re going to sit here and be quiet as a mouse. I'm going to be doing a lot of talking so I won't be needing any unnecessary interruptions. Don't even think or attempt to move from the spot you're in because if you do, he chuckles" I'll just have to introduce you to my best friend here, then he holds up the shiny knife.

I shiver inwardly and nod.

He puts the knife down at his side and sighs “Did you know the sweetest, most fulfilling accomplishment in a person's life is when they're able to get revenge. If you think about it even the word" revenge" sounds beautiful, it's two syllables, it only has one meaning, it's easy to define. But that's not the best thing about it. To me the best thing about revenge, is that it's present in so many lives. I mean so many people in the world have wanted to take revenge for one reason or another, but unfortunately it's hard to achieve. It takes sacrifice to have the ultimate revenge. Do you know what I mean?

I shake my head" n-no I don't know what you mean I have no idea what you're talking about I....

He put his finger to his lips "Shhhh, don't say another word. Of course you don't know what I mean. But don't worry soon you will. He grunts" trust me babe I'll make sure of that."

I run my hand through my thick curly hair. I'm so confused and scared what is this man talking about. Why can't he just get it over with and say what he wants. My tiny cardboard box of an apartment that's filled with the basics of an old couch, table, and a simple bed can't possibly be worth anything. Does he want my books, my plants, or my ten year old cd player. Maybe my worn tattered bible or maybe he wants oh God maybe he wants me....

“I want you Jordana"

I jump up in my seat"Huh, um what?"

"I SAID I WANT YOU TO ANSWER MY QUESTION. DO YOU KNOW A MAN NAMED MONTY PIERCE?"

The name sounded a little familiar but I answer "What, um no I don't, jeez you don't have to shout"

"I wouldn't have to shout if you would answer me the first time. I told you I don't like to repeat myself."

I look down" I'm sorry I didn't hear you."

He grunts" it's okay, just pay attention for now on. Anyway, Monty Pierce will be the man you'll get to know soon. In about five months he'll be your new brother-in-law.
