Death Himself
The world was fading. I knew I was dying, but I don’t really remember how I got into this situation. One minute I was walking to the grocery store, Next, I saw headlights, and Suddenly I was on the ground as a huge pain shot through my back to my head. In the next few minutes, I went in and out of consciousness, I could hear voices. I also saw flashing lights. I blacked out again and again, and finally, I woke up in a hospital bed, saw one of my friends, and blacked out again. The next time I woke up I saw doctors rushing my family out of the room, saying it was an emergency and they had nothing to worry about. Of course, They wanted to know what had happened. As far as I knew, The doctor spoke, but he didn’t tell them anything about the condition I was in. I blacked out again. I woke up and there were doctors and nurses, hovering, but they were blurry. Everything was blurry. The sounds were muffled, I couldn’t hear what they were saying, I couldn’t move the left side of my body. Then darkness once again.
When I somewhat regained consciousness I could hear what sounded like crying and more muffled talking. A blurry figure walked over to me. I saw their lips move but the sound was nonexistent. A bright light was flashed in both my eyes. That didn’t seem to bother me in the slightest. The world was begging to fade. I tried to speak, tell them that I’m okay, that there’s nothing to worry about. That I’ll be better in no time. But unfortunately, the words didn’t come. Instead, I saw less and less each second. The world was going dark and I couldn’t do anything about it. This would be the last time my eyes opened when I’m alive. I imagined how my family must be feeling at this moment. The sadness, the fear, the loss of losing someone they loved. I tried not to think about it, I tried to stay strong. My eyes were closing. At least that is what I thought they were doing. Soon family members became distant memories, friends turned out being a blur. My body was failing, one hopeless function at a time. And then something happened. All the pain, all the sadness, my hurt, my struggles, my fears, the guilt I felt, that all went away. And at that moment when I took my last breath. I died.
It was peaceful. I opened my eyes and I saw the aurora above me. I was sitting on a hill in the middle of nowhere. I looked up to find images of my life inside the aurora. My memories. I scanned the memories. I saw memories that I had totally forgotten about, and memories I could never forget. But I was. And I did. That’s when I could feel the tears running down my face. I would never see my family ever again. I was wondering how my family was reacting to this. Do they know I died? Will they ever recover from this? My mind was spinning. I got a headache just thinking about it. I stood up from where I was and started wandering. Up hills, in caves, and even some mountains. I was lost but somehow I knew exactly where I was. The Aurora suddenly vanished and I was left with just sadness. A feeling of regret. And as soon as I felt that regret something terrible happened
The memories vanished as fast as they had come. Suddenly the sky went black and the ground fell from under me. I couldn’t remember anything anymore. The memories were gone. All I remembered was my name. Talilah. I was falling and I didn’t know how to stop it. I was confused and alone. I started sobbing more and more. I was falling with no intention of landing anytime soon. I wondered if it would hurt. But then again I reminded myself that I was dead. It wouldn’t affect me. I closed my eyes and then it stopped. Everything just stopped, I wasn’t falling anymore. But when I opened my eyes I was more terrified than I’ve ever been in my life. But in this case, death.
It was a wasteland. Active volcanoes everywhere, It was hot, red-hot lava threatening to come out of the volcanoes. I looked up and saw more memories. No, they weren’t memories, they were nightmares. My fears, things I never wanted to admit, and lies I’ve told. I was paralyzed with absolute fear. I thought death was rainbows and unicorns. Something happy to look forward to, but that’s not the case in this situation. Soon I forgot those as well. I felt empty inside like there was no meaning to anything I did anymore. My legs gave out from under me and I collapsed on the rock hard volcanic ground.
Through my tears, I saw a blurry figure walking towards me. At this point, I didn’t care. My hope was completely erased from my memory. I just wanted to get out of this wasteland, See my hometown again, watch the people I love grow up. If this is what death was like I don’t want any part of it. But as the figure got closer I could tell it was a man. He looked really young, I would say he was in his twenties. Broad shoulders, Muscular build, Black hair, green eyes, jawline, he was also wearing a white suit. And in all this chaos I could only think of one thing. He was really good looking. It wasn’t the best time to think about this handsome stranger walking towards me. By the time I stopped crying and he was right in front of me. Beautiful as ever. He held out his hand for me to take it. He smiled. I took his hand hesitantly standing up from where I collapsed. He put his hand up to my chin lifting my face as if to get a better look. Not that there’s anything to look at. He let go of my chin and stepped back.
“Beautiful” he murmured.
I heard him whisper under his breath. I don’t know if he intended for me to hear it but I did. Out of nervousness, I looked away and my cheeks became hot. I knew it was not the time to get flustered. I looked up into his bright green eyes again and almost forgot that I was in a wasteland. Almost.
He smirked.
The handsome man in front of me held out his hand for me to take. Cautiously I did.
“Hold on, this is my favorite part” His voice was filled with happiness.
Suddenly when snapped his fingers and the wasteland vanished. It was replaced by a wall, It was like a mirror to another dimension. It was as wide and as tall as the eye could see. He walked right through the mirror without a second thought. Me on the other hand, I was cautious. I slowly put my hand through the glass amazing. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I crossed through the mirror, and then I opened my eyes. Paradise. That’s all you could describe it as. Trees and plants everywhere. Butterflies flying above as ants collected food to bring them back to their home. And in front of me was a huge mansion. It seemed to be the size of a castle but I didn’t think that would be possible. I’ve never seen anything like it before.
“You like it,” He said looking over at me. Smiling. His features were perfect. I knew it wasn’t a question so I only did what I was physically capable of doing at the moment. I nodded.
“Shall we?” He asked looking in my direction.
He started walking towards the house not looking back to see if I was following him. He didn’t need to, it was like he knew what I was going to do. I finally got the courage and moved my feet, forcing them to listen to me. I don’t fully trust this man yet but he got me out of that wasteland which I was grateful for. For a moment I wondered who he was, but that thought was replaced when I stepped passed the threshold into his mansion. The house was enormous. The house was clearly cleaned to perfection, not a thing out of place anywhere. I just imagined what the rooms were like. If I wasn’t careful I would definitely get lost.
The handsome stranger started walking deeper inside the house. I followed him of course. I asked him where we were going but he decided to ignore me. After about a few left and right turns and a long walk down a long hallway, we finally made it to a gigantic door. My curiosity was in overdrive at the moment. He stopped and turned around. He smiled that beautiful award-winning smile.
“Right this way,” He said and opened the door.
