Footsteps in the dark

He could hear footsteps following him. Looking behind he saw a man wearing a huge black trench coat, a top hat and sunglasses-at night-following him. He picked up his pace. The man also started walking faster. He broke into a slow jog. When he saw that the man had gotten still closer he booked it out of the dark alley as fast as he could.

Thud. Thud. Thud. The footsteps had gotten closer. Taking random turns in attempts of losing the pursuer he sighed in relief when he no longer saw nor heard the man but didn’t slow down. After going in circles for a little while longer to ensure he lost the stalker he headed home. Upon reaching the front door he pulled the house key out of his pocket. His hands were shaking. The strange encounter had left him as scared as a jack-rabbit that has heard the howl of a wolf. It was so bad that he was unsuccessful in unlocking the door so he decided to first calm down then try again later.

“Matt!”

Matt spun around dropping the keys by mistake; seeing the man from before he yelled”Whonare you?” Why are you following me?”

“I’m your father’s colleague. I’ve come to tell you that your parents…they…”

“My parent? Aren’t they supposed to be back from their business trip tomorrow morning?”

“Yes. But they … They were in a car crash today morning.”
