Green Flash
" Sasha!” Screamed a voice down the school hallway. Only one person could publicly embarrass me. Jaxon.
He was running down the red and yellow lockers, knocking people out of his way, in attempt to tell me something that might just be important. Not
Jaxon was obsessed with superheroes, he’s entire room was filled with posters of Plasta Man, Green Flash, Windstorm, Siren and so many more. What I’m more surprised is the fact that so many posters could fit in his small, matchbox-like room. Over the years I’ve noticed he has passion for Green Flash, a superhero whose fairly new but has managed to grow into a popular and dependable hero. It’s the main reason why Jaxon is always wearing green.
As Jaxon moved closer to me I realized whatever news he had to tell me was big. He had this sparkle in his eyes which could only mean it must be about Green Flash.
“Sasha...Sasha, you wouldn’t believe what happened!”
I quickly grabbed my Physics book and shut my locker. I turned to Jaxon.
“What happened Jax that I will apparently never believe” I said
" Do you not listen to the news, history was made yesterday and you look as clueless as me in History.” He said while readjusting his bag which had slipped off his shoulder.
“Are you going to tell me or do I have to guess, Jax?” I said as I turn to walk towards Physics with Mrs. Bullwag
Jaxon walks beside me as we make our way to Physics.
“So, yesterday I was watching Pretty Little Lia- I mean Suicide Squad, when a breaking news report popped out of nowhere-” Jaxon stopped talking when a group of kids walked right in between us shoving Jax too the side. After he gave them a couple of death glares he made his way to me and continued.
“So the report popped up and the beautiful Melissa Cara from Channel 6 showed up. She had her hair in bun, which was odd because you know she usually likes it down-”
“I get it Jax, you love her, can you continue.” I said
“Ok, sheesh. So Melissa-” I turned my head to him and lifted my brow
“Fine, Mrs.Cara was talking about how a fight had started at North West Mall. Apparently some girl walked into that Fortune Teller shop or whatever and the lady, you know with the pink hair and dodgy piercings, refused to sell her who knows what. So the girl goes crazy and starts shooting beams of light out of her hands, you should see it I’m sure we can find a video of it on YouTube but whatever, so she starts attacking the mall and destroying the shops there. Dude, I swear she almost hit Puppy World, I mean who does that, right?”
“Seriously Puppy World, this girl has problems, no matter how mad you get, you never attack puppies. That’s just sick.” I was slightly taken back that any one could even attempt to harm the shop holding over dozen of dogs and pups.
We were nearing class and it was obvious Jax wouldn’t get to finish his story. We walked into the Physics lab. Mrs.Bullwag wasn’t here yet.
“Finish your story at lunch.” I said shooting him a smile
“Sure, Sash.” Jax walks over to the back of the class where his lab partner, Marie-lee, was taking out her notepad.
I stopped in the first row and took my seat. I really enjoyed Physics it was my favorite class. Learning about forces, elements and laws was the coolest thing about school.
Five minutes later Mrs.Bullwag walks in and demands the class be quiet.
Walking out of class I felt happy, we had just stared going deeper into all the forces active in and around Earth, it truly was exciting.
Turning my head I see Jax on my side with the most saddest look on his face. It looked like his dog had died and the only way to ease his pain was to sit through a class he hated.
I laughed. Jax was truly remarkable.
Walking out of History I made my way to the schools cafeteria. In the corridor I spotted Selena, she’s in my History class too, I waved and continued my walk. Stepping into the cafeteria and walking past the long line of hungry students ,I make my way outside. I don’t buy food from here often, I prefer to make my own lunch and customize it according to my mood. Once outside I locate Jax in our usual seat. It was outside near the schools biggest fountain. We had an entire 6 seater bench to ourselves which was under a small tree.
We loved it because it was secluded from the rest of the school but not too much that we wouldn’t know what was going on.Taking a seat across Jax I took out my Lunch Box. Taking a look at Jax’s lunch made me cringe.
“Jax, that is not healthy, I know you’re to lazy to make lunch but oily fries and fish fingers isn’t the best way to maintain that A- grade body of yours.” I said nearly grinning when I thought about his ‘A-grade body’.
“Whatever at least I know I won’t turn red like you. How many times are you going to eat strawberries. Don’t you get sick of them.” He said staring at my lunch.
I just rolled my eyes. I know he had a point I’ve been eating strawberries for the past week, I just can’t help it, they’re so good and juicy.
“Anyway,” announces Jax,” Back to my story, before I get annoyed from the looks you’re giving my fishies. Um, where did we end off...Puppies. So she almost hit the puppy store. After a couple of minutes of her rampage you wouldn’t believe who came. Green Flash! You know he only comes when the situation is bad.”
“Yeah, the way you’re describing her she does sound powerful, Shockwave or Siren wouldn’t stand a chance.” I said agreeing with him.
“So they battle it out, Green Flash takes a couple of hits. Turns out the girl is some sort of sorcerer. Obviously she can’t stand a chance against Green Flash. So eventually he weakens her but she just disappears in puff of smoke like some dumb magic trick.”
“Woah, a sorcerer who knew those existed. I just wonder what she wanted at that store.” I said puzzled
After 20 minutes of Jax and I just aimlessly arguing the bell rings. Everybody heads off to their prospective classes. I tell Jax I’ll meet him by his car after school and make my way to Maths.
“5,4,3,2,1.” I whisper and the bell finally rings, Geography was brutal and I couldn’t wait to get out of here. Stopping by my locker I drop off the books I won’t need and make my way to Jax’s car.
After shoving my way through, what felt like billions of sweaty teens, I made it to Jax’s car. He smiled when he saw me.
“So Jaxy how about me and you go out for some frozen yogurt. Geography was harsh and I need something to make me feel better.” I said
“Sorry Sasha I wish I could but I really need to get home and keep an eye on the news, I have a feeling that sorcerer from the mall will attack again and I just can’t miss it.” Explains Jax.
I pout.
" Really Jax, really?” I say in the most pleading voice I can muster.
Jax pulls a face like he’s torn. I never knew I had to worry about some guy in a green body suit stealing my best friend. Yes, I know I’m exaggerating but whatever.
“Sorry you know Green Flash doesn’t come out as much, this is my only chance to see him in action again before he disappears and Shockwave takes over again. Sorry.” He pleads hoping I won’t be angry.
“Fine but you owe me.” I huff
“Definitely, bye Sasha.” He waves getting in his, believe it or not, green Mercedes.
“Bye” I say as he speeds off out the schools parking lot
Turing I make my way towards my beautiful, bright yellow beetle.
Getting in I toss my bag in the back seat and stare out the windshield.
“I either go home or get some frozen yogurt. ” I whisper. At home I probably have a stack of dishes waiting for me at Smooch, a couple kilos of milk bottles.
“Smooch it is.” Pulling out the parking lot I make my way to Westside Center.
If only I had chosen the dishes.
