Chapter 1

Andrew

I have never quite seen a woman look so much in her element but out of place at the same time. She looked like she was meant to be somewhere else, doing anything else but found comfort in being here. I watched her from across the room, trying my best to not have the other guys follow my line of sight.

She looked annoyed to say the least, a mildly obese and red faced man kept slamming his glass on the counter when she was giving drinks to other customers. She turned around to him with a fake smile plastered on her face and grabbed the man by his tie.

"listen jumbo shrimp, I will get to you in my own time. Its a Friday night and its busy, slamming my glasses on the counter will in no way speed up my arrival"

The man only grinned, the effect of the alcohol seeming to have very well caught up with him. He watched her attend to other customers for a few moments before getting up and leaving the bar stool after slamming a fifty on the counter.

The bartending beauty noticed his absence and took the fifty with relief, suddenly looking a bit happier than before. Perhaps he left a large tip in his drunk stupor? Regardless, I realized that I liked this version of her. All smiles and laughs thrown over her shoulder at the women working the other end.

Matthew, my brother, came up behind me and clapped his hand onto my shoulder.

"There's ought to be at least 30 attractive women on the dance floor and here you are, staring at the working one". He sounded serious but I could tell by the grin on his face that he was messing with me.

"Shut up, Matt. You know I have no interest in one night stands at this age. Its childish and the cheap perfume some of them wear is nauseating"

"At this age? Excuse me while I remind you that you're 18, not 40 and about the cheap perfume, you're right. Its god awful"

"18 or 40, one night stands are childish affairs. Besides, she is beautiful"

"Well my dear brother, I still am able to enjoy teenage affairs for some time. It is after all my 18th birthday. Now if you'll excuse me, the lady in red has the ass of a Kardashian"

"Its probably just as fake as a Kardashian's as well!"

"Only one way to find out Drew. By the way, go talk to the bartender. Looks like her shift is over!" Matt yelled over his shoulder as he stalked towards the woman in red.

I looked back to the bar to find her hugging the other working woman and whispering in her ear before laughing loudly and grabbing her purse from underneath the counter. She passed the other woman with a quick hug and exited through the gate towards the farther end of the counter. She was heading towards the exit, that much was clear. She walked with a determination and all signs of a smile had been wiped from her face. I decided that she was late for something. I stood from my chair and headed in her direction, with my own sense of determination.
