With a heavy box in my hand I was looking down the street. We just left the house in which I grew up, it was kind of hard to believe that I would never be able to sit in my room on that little bench underneath my window, reading my favourite books over andover again.
There was no way I was going to sit in our backyard again, reading the same books, listening to music or just thinking about different things. I was that kind of person who does not talk that much to other people, I liked being on my own, reading or fantasizing about my life. My parents always tried to get me out of the house, meet some people and have fun, but reading and being on my own was what I loved to do.
That was one of the reasons why my parents decided to move away, they wanted me to start over again, meet people at a new school and have a socialised life. That was nothing of what I wanted but I could not do anything against it, so I just stared back to our house while my dad was trying to get my attention.
“Mi-Cha, we need to leave, come on now!” I let out a long sigh and put the box into the car. Then I climbed into the backseat and watched the house getting smaller as we were driving away.
I texted my friends that we were on our way to Seoul now and that we would stay in touch. In fact, I did have friends, I just liked to be alone more than to be with friends. I put my phone back into the back and watched outside the window. All I could see was trees and other cars.
Everyone in my place would be jealous, we were moving to Seoul, not one of the suburbs, we were moving right into downtown, and you can believe me, that is not cheap. But I was not happy about it, I just wanted to go back to my room and sit on the bench. Noe I had to attend high school in the middle of Seoul without any of my friends. I will be alone there, but well, at least I would have some time to read my books and stay away from weird people.
“Alright sweetie, here we are. Welcome to your new home!“, my mom said. I was looking around while her and dad were chatting. The house was pretty, not very big but we did not need a big house. It was just us three since our cute cat died just a few months ago. She was always sitting on the bench under my window with me and I really missed her a lot.
We took the first boxes with us and went inside. As soon as the door opened I felt a little better. It was already furnished so it did not feel as empty as I thought it would. We went from the front door to the living room where we put the boxes down. Directly from the living room we could walk into the kitchen, there was no door in between. I really liked that.
Also there was a door leading to the small backyard which I went to. It was smaller than the one in our old house but it was still pretty. There were some chairs and a table to sit by and in the back I could see some beautiful flowers. I already knew where I wanted to hang my hammock, there was one tree close to the fence where I wanted to hang it. I imagined myself lying down there and enjoying the weather with a book. My life is just all about books and my fantasy. I wish I would be creative enough to write something but unfortunately I was not.
I went back inside to help my parents getting the boxes in our new home. I grabbed some stuff and carried it from the car into the house. They were my boxes so I brought them into my room upstairs. I looked around and tried to find my room. “Mom, which room will be mine?”
“The second one on the right, Mi-Cha.” I walked there and tried to open the doors but I had to get my hands free. Once I managed to open them I was very surprised. It was furnished just as I was imagining my dream room to look like. There was a big bed under the window with pretty sheets, some pictures on the walls. There was a dresser and some other cupboards to put stuff into. There was a desk for all my homeworkstuff that will be coming up that school year. I grabbed my books from the boxes and put them into the cupboards.
I continued unpacking my stuff until my mom called me to eat dinner. We had some instant ramen just because it was a quick meal and we all were tired.
“Goodnight mom and dad, see you tomorrow!“, I said as I walked upstairs. I changed into my pajamas and cuddled myself into my new bed in my new home.
So far it was not as bad as I would have expected it to be. Thinking about how school tomorrow was going to be I slowly fell asleep.
