Introduction

His Regrets

For my grandmother, who inspired this story through her harrowing experiences. May she rest in peace.

Note: This story although based loosely on my grandmothers past, is being enhanced for enjoyment purposes as well as to fit a chapter structure. Names, locations and details have been emitted and/or changed in order to maintain anonymity.

Please keep in mind that this is a difficult story for me to tell. My grandmother passed away before I grew up and developed a passion for writing. I never got a chance to ask her for her permission to write her story and publish it for thousands of people to see.

When I originally published “His Regrets”, I thought a select few would read it and it would help them know they were not alone in facing marital abuse.

However, once the story started to get views, I felt like I was exploiting her past. Reading the comments, and seeing people call my grandmother ‘too naive’ and ‘stupid for staying’ made me think I had done the wrong thing. I never wanted for my grandmother to look down and see thousands of people across the world criticizing her life, her actions, and her character.

It took me a long time and a lot of praying for a sign from above to finally understand that I have her permission. I had it this whole time. My grandmother is strong. And no comments would have ever had the power to tear her down. I love you Nona.
