Preface

Bella sat at the bar, drinking her fourth mixture of vodka and cranberry juice, watching and giving a small smile as her best friend, and her newly wedded husband slow danced together on the dance floor. She was happy for them and wished them nothing but happiness. She just enjoyed seeing her best friend glow. But of course, this was the fifth wedding she has been to so far this year. Co-workers, friends, and even family finding someone of their other half; but not her. It wasn’t that she didn’t like seeing other people being happy or anything, sometimes people needed their solitude or the fact that she didn’t like being alone. It was the fact that no guy that she has gone on a date with she has found interesting, ever.

Bella gave off a small laugh at her amusement, as a tall well-dressed man sat on the barstool next to her, she took a peek at him. He wasn’t all that attractive really, but he was pretty good looking. He had medium length blonde hair that was slicked back on his head, a small gold tee, blue eyes, and a pair of long lashes to go with them. Why were men gifted with long eyelashes? She thought, slightly pouting as she drank the rest of her vodka and cranberry juice before signaling the bartender for another one. But that was about it nothing else interested her about the guy, so she went back to watching the happy couple dance with each other.

Once the bartender served her, he went to the guy next to her.

“Beer please.” The guy requested before directing his attention to her.

“I couldn’t help noticing that you were seating here by yourself and decided to join you.”

I wish you wouldn’t, she thought, not paying him no mind and took a sip of her drink.

“I’m Nathan. You?” Nathan tried making conversation but poorly.

“Bella.” She introduced herself, deciding to give him a chance. Who knows maybe he as different.

“That’s a nice name. You are very pretty.” He complimented.

“Thank you.” But she noticed that he was staring down her cashmere charcoal dress at her dress before looking at her eyes again, thinking that he didn’t get caught.

“So umm, did you want to get out of here or something? Get to know each other?” Nathan suggested.

Bella couldn’t help but laugh as she got up and left the bar, taking her drink with her and went to the other side of the reception room.

Who was she kidding. They were all the same. Some guy, who wasn’t about shit or just wasn’t shit period using her for what she had whether it be her body or her money, and she was not going to have that. It was never about who she was as a person, her personality, interest, or any of that.

Maybe she was meant to be forever alone but then again maybe not.
