Summary

"What has you knocking on my door at 2 AM and I know it's not to borrow some sugar." "I need a distraction." I told him simply before pulling him in for a kiss. Savannah Patterson thought that she'd get married and have a family before her little sister did. Even after breaking up with her almost fiancé after he cheated on her. She thought she still had time to find a new man and start a future with him. That was until her sister told her she'd gotten engaged. To the man that was best friends with her ex. Not only was he the best man, he'd also be bringing around his new fiancé. Who happened to be the woman he cheated on her with. All this led her into needing a distraction, alcohol could only do so much and hangovers were not her forte. So sex was the only option and lucky for her the man perfect for the task lived right across the hall. What she wasn't expecting was an unplanned pregnancy to further complicate her life. So much for a fun distraction.

Savannah

“Savannah Raye Patterson, are you paying attention?”

“What?” I said taking a sip of my wine. I was out having lunch with my sister because she said she had some big news to tell me. The moment I arrived she started talking about the gossip she heard from her friends. So I zoned her out and tried to think of all the work I needed to get done when I got back to the office on Monday.

“I said I’m getting married.” my litter sister, Sariah said showing me the huge diamond that now graced the ring finger on her left hand.

“Congrats?” I said trying to sound happy for her. I love my little sister but I was not expecting her to tell me that she’d gotten engaged. Especially after only dating Trevor for six months, but I should’ve known. My sister falls in and out of love quick but it seems like things with Trevor are different. She seems to be in love with him. And not in some phase of wanting to plan a wedding to only cancel last minute because she’s changed her mind. I was happy for her and wish that it was me telling her that I was getting married instead.

“You can sound a bit more excited sis. I know you thought that things with Bryan would work out but I wanted to let you know first that he is going to be the best man.”

“I’m fine, Bryan is in the past. I’m happy for you and Trevor sis.”

“Great, the engagement party is going to be in a few weeks since we want to get married as soon as possible. And no before you ask I am not pregnant. I’m telling you now so you can have enough time to find a date for the party.”

“I don’t need a date.”

“Yes you do, Brian might be Trevor’s best friend but the man is an ass. And needs to know that he missed out on an awesome woman by breaking up with you.” I could see the wheels turning in her head to figure out which one of her friends she was going to set me up with. So I decided to stop her in her tracks before I ended up with a pity date. By letting her think that I have a date then arrive there alone telling her that he canceled last minute.

“I have someone in mind.”

“You’re seeing someone?”

“It’s not that serious, he’s a friend right now.”

“What’s his name?”

“None of your business, now please tell me how Trevor proposed.” That seemed to get my sister off of my non existent mystery man.

My ex Bryan and I dated for three years before he dumped me because he felt that I wasn’t wife material for him. He also told me that if I lost a few pounds he might consider taking me back. It wouldn’t have been bad if we weren’t out celebrating our anniversary. In a packed restaurant where people can hear him belittle my appearance and food choices. Humiliated and pissed I got my stuff out of the apartment and left. When we first started dating he didn’t have a problem with my size and I loved that about him. But over time he’d start making snide comments here and there. Which he then started to tell me that I needed to go on a diet and started ordering food for me when we went out to eat.

It hurt but his job was all about image. He was a sports agent who surrounded himself with attractive people. In an attempt to get athletes to sign with him. He was big on telling them that if I have a beautiful woman you have to have one to. So it wasn’t a surprise to see his new girlfriend was a runway model. It would be easier to get over him if my mother didn’t love him so much. And still invited him to all family gatherings in hopes that we would get back together. She agreed with him that I should lose weight and blamed me for the break up.

“Call me when you get home.” Sariah said as we left the restuarant after talking over a few wedding details.

“I will.”

“It means a lot that you’re happy for me, your support means everything.”

“I’m your big sister, I’ll always support you no matter what.”

“Love you Sav.”

“Love you to Riah.” I left the restaurant and went to the store to get some much needed grocery shopping done. I was walking down an aisle when someone tapped my shoulder.

“Hello neighbor.” I turned around to see my neighbor from across the hall Jackson. Dressed in his usual casual outfit and still managed to look sexy as ever. I’ve always had a small crush on him since I moved into the building. But pushed it away because he always had a new flavor of the week and I was in a relationship with Bryan.

“Hi, surprised to see you out of your apartment.”

“I leave my apartment to go to work, workout and run errands but other than that I am a homebody. What about you, I haven’t seen lover boy around your apartment lately.”

“We broke up.”

“Sorry to hear that.” He said with a hint of amusement in his voice.

“It’s fine it was bound to happen anyway. Malibu Barbie still keeping you company?” I asked thinking back to the last woman he had over to his apartment. She looked a lot like an life size barbie doll and air head to match.

“She was a fling and you sound a bit jealous there Miss. Savannah.”

“Why would I be jealous?”

“I don’t know, you could have a secret crush on me. If you do my door is always open and I know can please you better than Mr. Stick Up His Ass.”

“I do not have a crush on you and you wish you had the chance.”

“Oh I do, I’m waiting on you to come to your senses and give me a shot.”

“Well don’t hold your breath because that won’t be happening anytime soon.”

“You say that now but Mr. Agent is coming towards us and he is not alone.”

I turned around to see Bryan walking towards us with his new model girlfriend.

“Savannah it’s good to see you, Chanel this is Savannah.”

“It’s nice to meet you, you remember Jackson my neighbor.” I said putting on a fake smile and shaking her hand.

“Yeah the tattoo artist across the hall. Did your sister tell you the news?” Bryan asked dismissing Jackson’s presence

“Yes, I had lunch with her earlier.”

“So that means I’ll see you at the engagement party?”

“It’s for my sister of course I’ll be there to support her.”

“Babe we still have a lot we need to do for the party tomorrow.”

“Party?” Jackson asked

“Housewarming/engagement party.” Chanel showed me her hand and smiled at Bryan, the ring was the exact one he had given me a few weeks before we broke up.

“Congratulations.” I said still trying to hide the hurt.

“Thanks, babe we should invite her tomorrow and to the wedding.”

“Babe I don’t think-”

“No, I want her to come since you two are still friends.”

“Thanks but I’ll be busy helping my sister with her wedding and all. And I have plans tomorrow.”

“Okay but I’ll still send you an invite anyway, the wedding is in Bora Bora so you’ll need the vacation.”

“Bora Bora?”

“Yeah, it was Bryan’s idea.” she said smiling at him while I only glared at him.

“Oh, he’s got great taste.”

“We should get going Chanel.”

“You’re right, it was nice meeting you both.”

“Yeah you to.” They walked away leaving me pissed off and hurt.

“What’s wrong?” Jackson asked concerned

“Nothing, I’ve got a lot of work to do so I’ll see you around.”

“Alright but if you need to talk all you have to do is come over.”

“Thanks.” I walked away and went in line so that I could check out and go home. Once I got home I put all the groceries away and poured myself a glass of wine. I took a seat on the couch and cried. It hurt to see that Bryan had already proposed to her, and I was still single. Tired of sulking I decided to take Jackson up on his offer not caring to check what time it is. I walked across the hall and knocked on his door. He had a shocked expression on his face at first but stepped aside to let me in.

“What has you knocking on my door at 2 AM and I know it’s not to borrow some sugar.”

“I need a distraction.” I told him before pulling him in for a kiss.
