he gasped with excitement and shouted over the churning of the helicopter: “The islands in the sky are real!”
I got a good look at her then: long blonde hair tip dyed purple, her green eyes glowing, the flecks of gold more prominent than ever, an excited expression etched onto her face. In other words, she looked beautiful. I smile and turn to her. I gently lay my hand on her shoulder. She looks at me.
“Would you like to go on one of them and explore? Just you and me, like the old times.”
An excited squeal slipped past her lips. “I’d love to, Maddie!! Thanks for taking me here.”
“You’re welcome, darling. Just let me tell Scott to land.” I turn to the pilot and whisper, “it’s go time, you know what to do.”
Jane has her forehead pressed against the glass window with her hands on both sides of her head staring out the window. I rest my head on her shoulder.
“Are you ready for our next adventure?” I whisper in her ear.
“Yes.”
