Café

She never was so annoyed in her entire life. He wouldn’t stop staring...

“Do we have a problem here kid?”

“What? Ah... no. Sorry”

“Yeah you better be! I’m so close to removing your eyes from your head!”

“Huh? My eyes?”

“That’s right! Stop staring.” The café fell silent. But it’s not like there were a lot of people there anyway. She stormed back to her booth and ordered another cheesecake. She needed a strawberry to calm her nerves. It’s too early in the morning for people to be irritating her. He walked up to her and apologized. “I’m sorry”

“What!? You again? Stop looking at me”

“Um, I wasn’t”

“Of course you were!”

“You are next to the bulletin board”

“Oh is that so? Why didn’t you take a picture? Staring too long in someone’s direction creeps them out ya know.”

“Yelling at someone for something they didn’t do kind of freaks them out ya know?”

“Yeah well, be mindful of other people!”

“I could say the same thing to you little miss...”

“Who are you calling little!?!? My name is Flora and you will call me Madam Flora if you value your life!”

“Flora huh? Do you usually yell at strangers?”

“Only the ones that piss me off!” Her cheesecake had finally came to her booth and she no longer acknowledged his presence. “You can go now ser”

“Why madam?”

“Why??? What do you mean why? I grow tired of your existence. Get out my face kid”

“No, why do you want to be referred to as madam?” The fork stopped halfway before going completely through the cake. “You really are set on ruining my morning aren’t you?”

“It wasn’t my initial plan, sorry”

“If you are sorry, turn around and go to another café.”

“I’m not that sorry. May I?”

“No you may not! I don’t invite every kid that stares at me to my special cheesecake booth!”

“Oh well I usually start my mornings with cheesecake as well. I was hoping I could have company this morning. You seem like good company.” Her eyes widened as she blushed and quickly looked out the window. The street was beginning to be filled with men going to their jobs and women walking small children down the road.

“May I enjoy the morning with you Miss Flora?”

“Madam!... I... wasn’t planning on meeting someone here... so I guess the seat is open.” She said, still watching the street Become busier with each passing second. Street side market booths began opening up and the sun was higher in the sky. He sat down and her body tensed.

“I am Jack. Nice to meet you” He smiled and ordered a cheesecake. She thought about waiting until his cheesecake came before starting on hers. But it was his fault for ordering so late. Her fork cut cleanly through the edge of her cake.
