Chapter 1

I look at my brother with a smile on my face “thank you so much for letting me stay with you, Its hard living here with mom and dad barely being home.” I comment as I put my stuff in the back of my brother’s Mustang, turning to look at him once I’m done.

My brother gives me a sad smile in return, shutting the trunk and walking towards the driver side, “no big deal, I’ve already told you my home is always open to you, why wouldn’t I want to live with my best friend again?”

I get in the car and laugh, “I know but you’ve just been so busy trying to fix everything for yourself I didn’t wanna come in and ruin anything.” Caleb rolls his eyes and starts the car pulling, turning to look at me before he pulls out of the driveway

“We made a pact Nik, to always be there for one another, and you really needed me during these months and I couldn’t help because you wouldn’t tell me what was going on, I have enough money to support the both of us until you graduate.” He glances at me from the corner of his eye, reaching over to pat my shoulder before focusing on the road again.

“Thank you,” I whisper silently looking out the window.

I let out a cheer once every single one of my suitcases are moved into my new bedroom, “we did it.” I grin looking at Caleb who grins lazily back at me.

“I’ll let you settle in while I go make dinner,” I give him a single nod, making my way towards my suitcases. “oh and Jackson coming by for dinner tonight, he’ll probably crash on the couch like he usually does.” I tense at that.

I wait until he’s out the door, before letting out a loud groan.

I know when Jackson arrives, not only by the sound of the front door opening but the sound of his and my brothers laugh as they make their way into the kitchen.

Probably getting a beer.

I put my suitcases under the bed, before walking into my bathroom and looking in the mirror

My long curly black hair cascades down my back, my medium sized chest pops out on my small top, my jeans doing some justice to my body.

I touch up my make up before shaking my head, this will have to do.

With one last look at my appearance I make my way down stairs.

Jackson’s head lifts up when I walk into the kitchen, his brown eyes meet mine, instantly making me freeze.

He’s still as handsome as ever I see

I give him a smile, “Hey Jax,” he snaps out of whatever he’s thinking about and gives me a small smile, “Hey Nikki, long time no see.” I nodded agreeing with him as I take my seat on the chair beside him watching my brother as he cooks.

I can see him looking at me from the corner of my eye but I choose to ignore it, focusing on the small specks of white on the black marble counters.

Caleb turns around placing a plate of chicken peppers and rice in front of me and Jackson before making his own plate and sitting down in front of us.

“I need to go grocery shopping so it’s not a lot.” I take a bite of the food in front of me and smile, “you can make any small thing taste amazing.” My brother chuckles and gives me a small wink, “Thank you, I know I could win Hell’s Kitchen.”

I laugh at my brothers attempt to joke, “I doubt it, you need more practice you’d lose this first challenge.” I giggle at the look Caleb gives Jackson as he places his hand over his heart, “you wound me Jackson I thought we were friends.”

Jackson grins before shaking his head “friends don’t lie to each other,” he comments, making Caleb nod “That is true.”

I shake my head at them and laugh, I missed this.

I should of expected them to migrate to the xbox after dinner, I curl up on the couch behind Jackson, sipping my warm tea as they play zombies.

“Shoot the fucking zombie you idiot, not me!” Jackson yells at Caleb slamming his fingers against the controller keys, how he hasn’t managed to break them I don’t know.

But I don’t question him I’ve learned better in my years of watching him and my brother play video games, don’t speak until their finished.

My brother lets out an angry groan as he slams his controller on the ground beside him, “we fucking sucked what the fuck happened we used to be so fucking good at this.” I laugh quietly to myself as they rage together.

“You know, you’d think after years of playing this game you would have it mastered the art of playing Xbox ” Jackson throws his head back and laughs sending me a grin.

“I have mastered it’s your brother who needs a lot of training.” This time I’m the one that laughs.

Caleb rolls his eyes and gets up from his position on the floor sitting his controller on top of the TV stand before turning to face us, “you’re both assholes.” We grin at him, Caleb shakes his head and looks at the both of us.

“This is something I didn’t miss.” I raise an eyebrow at my brother, “What?”

He gestures between me and Jackson, “You two ganging up on me and taking each others side, You’re supposed to have my side little sis what happened to that?”

We all laugh at that

______

I eventually around three in the morning, I decide to call it a night. I walk up the stairs not before hearing them mumble out “good nights” before continuing their night of gaming.

I close my bedroom door throwing myself on the bed and letting out a sigh of relief.

I sighed turning on my side and looking out into the night sky from my window, I really hope this was the right decision

______

The morning comes by quickly and soon enough I’m sitting in the kitchen watching as my brother makes pancakes, attempting to talk as if he’s in a cooking show.

“So now I’m gonna place the blueberries in the batter making sure to mix tf all in, he attempts to do an upfront of him placing the blueberries in the pancakes, failing when he gets some of the mixes on his shirt.

“Fuck.” I laugh, gripping the table trying not to fall from laughing so hard, “t..that was hilarious you should’ve seen your face.” I wheeze out coughing.

He rolls his eyes and turns around to the stove cooking the pancakes in a normal manner, “I meant to do that.” he scoffs placing the first pancake on a plate.

I snort, “sure you did.”
