Dominick

Death lives in our mortal fates

It’s the sibling of life

It desires to cause pain

And dreams of capturing our souls

Death moves swiftly across the Earth

It gathers our memories

Keeping them in a jar

Along with our hearts

They say love never dies

It’s

True

It’s been three hours now, and she still hasn’t left the hospital. Her skin is so pale it glows against her black clothes, if only she knew how beautiful it makes her. Those walking past her give her apologetic looks after catching glimpses of the silent tears streaming down her face. I hate myself for causing her so much torture, but I can never reach out and comfort her again. Either way, no one would ever desire the haunting touch of a dead man’s ghost. I would do anything to go back in time and fix that one mistake if it meant I could return to my best friend. I can’t stop replaying the scene over and over again in the back of my head. Everything started out in the usual routine, getting ready and then driving off to another day of high school. History, Language Arts, everything followed its usual routine until chemistry class.

I discovered a chemical combination that made an almost heart-shaped cloud and I planned on using it to finally ask out my crush, along with the lame pick up line “Are you a carbon sample? Because I want to date you.” My crush’s name is Addelyn, also known as my best friend and the girl currently crying to herself in the hospital hallway. With music screaming through my ear buds, the only way to cope with all my nervous emotions at that moment, I sauntered over to get my chemicals out of the back corner of the lab. A wave of heat impacts my back, but I assume it’s just the heater. After getting my chemicals, I turn around only to see the room ablaze with a quickly spreading fire. Frantically, I look around for an escape, but I’m surrounded and trapped in the corner. Panic takes control of my body, freezing me to the back wall as I stare into the chemical blaze. My skin starts to react to the immense heat and I can feel my lungs reacting to whatever chemical some idiot misused. I lock eyes with Addelyn through the window. She starts to bang on the window and breaks down, begging for someone to help me. The world darkens as the chemicals gain entrance to my body. The chemicals overtake and I barely feel my body sliding to cold, tile ground.
