Chapter One - Understanding Politics
My world is unlike any other. Supernatural beings all live side by side with humans. No wars, no animosity between species - well almost. We have our little problems but it's all handled with the courts and between the people. Vampires live with humans and witches live with the feline shifters etc.
Mates are a thing but it's just another fact of life here. People don't reject their mates, just because it's really hard to find them. There's about seven different people all over the globe that you can possibly mate with. The odds are against you and if you're already claimed by another than they simply don't feel the bond yet. However, there isn't cross breeding among the Families (Shifter, Vampire, etc.). A Feline Shifter can mate with say a Bird Shifter, but a Shifter cannot mate with a Fae or a Vampire. Humans are the only one who aren't under this rule. A Human can mate with any species and it just results with either a Human or Supernatural child, not a half-breed.
Several Families of supernaturals claim "Royalty" status. It's Broken down into Shifters, Vampires, Fae, Humans, Daemon, and Celestial. They deal with the politics and major aspects of life. Royalty status is subjected and can be changed with a challenge. You have to be physically stronger, intellectually superior, and be subjected to a mind search to understand your desire to rule. When a Royal wishes to step-down they speak their favor of a particular person or people, but they don't immediately gain the crown. Anybody who wishes to win the crown has to go through a tournament and depending on how many people want the crown, it takes some time.
With all that said and done, this is what happens with the physical laws we've been following fall apart. When a Celestial and a Daemon feel the pull of the mate bond and destroy our world as we know it.
