Chapter 1
Cami's Pov
You know that story, about that guy named Romeo and that girl Named Juliet, who fell in love with each other even though their families did what it happening. Yeah, that one, Romeo and Juliet. well let me tell you something, no one is going to commit suicide because he or she's in love with you. I’m pretty sure that someone that does that is called a psychopath nowadays and belongs in a loony bin. Which is why I’m so confused that Mr. Hannson is reading us this story about a ludicrous and naive warrior girl that falls for a prince from 1240 England, Prince Matthew Ryan III.
" Mr. H, why do we have to learn about this?” I ask.
" Shush!!” Exclaim half the girls in our class.
" Well, what don’t you like about it, Camilla?” He queried with an entertained expression.
" For starters, this story is a cliche that’s been used by every Disney princess movie ever. Second of all, it’s idiotic and futile, how she does everything, from saving his kingdom to killing his father for him, and all she gets in return is a ludicrous kiss that she, for some reason found enjoyable. For all we know, his love for her is fictitious and he’s using her to become the king. I bet, he has her executed at the end of the book.” I respond.
" I see your point Cami, but you have to remember that this is a fictional story based on an event that actually happened. We don’t know for sure that she murdered Matthew’s father, or that she was in love with him and not his crown. Thank you for asking that question though. It’s those kinds of questions that I encourage you guys to ask.” He happily acknowledged.
" Here’s a question for you. Do they do anything else other than a kiss?” Exclaimed Jacob.
Everyone, including Mr. H, laughs at his juvenile comment, which even made me smile a bit.
" Well I’m sorry to disappoint you Jacob, but this book is PG.” Mr. H answered. Then the bell rings." Class dismissed.”
As so as I leave the room, Rachel and her posse of friends surround me. It’s like they don’t have anything better to do than aggravate me. But I’m not giving in. That’ll just make her think she has authority over me, and that is so not happening.
" Hello Rachel and Cretins, what can I do for you today?” I say with distaste.
" I know what you were trying to do in there. If you think that Mark is gonna like you because of that smart-ass comment you said, you’re stupider than I thought. Mark is, and forever will be-”
" Are you done yet? You saying these things just means that you feel inferior to me.” I sighed with annoyance.
" Why you little BI-”
" And for the record, if Mark is as amazing as you think he is, why he would want to go out with a harlot like you really confuses me.”
I start walking away from her, but then I realize something.
" Oh and harlot means prostitute, just in case you didn’t know.” I disclosed.
" Wha- Get back here you little skank! I’m gonna rip your throat out!” She roared
" And I'll look forward to the day you try!" I reply.
Why can’t the world be perfect? Instead of being sexist, racist, and homophobic, why can’t we just be quiet. Why do women have to try so hard to get a man’s attention? And why do we get called sluts, when we wear things that fit a man’s deepest desire. It's not our fault that the general population of men are dirty-minded. It’s also not our fault that since the beginning of time, we’ve been told repeatedly that we need a man to get anywhere in life.
Melanie Sear is one of my favorite writers. Even though I don’t always agree with her, she makes tons of valid points. Like in this book, Our Awe-Inspiring Planet. it’s a prolonging trek home so I thought that I’d read a bit, pass the time. When I finally get home, I discover our suitcases are in the living room when I come in. We must be having another mother-daughter bonding vacation.
" Mom? Mom, are you home?” I called up the stairs. Maybe she went out.
" Wh- what are you doing here? You’re 5 minutes early!”
I turn towards the kitchen to see that Mr. Finn is the one that talked.Mr. Finn. Is here. In our house. Alone. There’s no way mom would let him come in. She doesn’t trust him. She thinks he looks like Richard Black, the 1970s' serial killer. Then I see it. Blood. Covering his torso, and dripping from his mouth. This can’t be happening. There’s no way that’s my mom’s. No fu- Oh my god. It's hers. It’s her bl- oh my god, oh my god. OH MY GOD!!!!. I looked him in the eye, with the coldest stare I could give.
" What did you do you... you... MONSTER! YOU SON OF A BITCH!” I shrieked.
" Now, don’t call me that." He says," Only my mother calls me that. You wanna know what happened to her?”
" W- what??”
" She died and went to hell.”
That’s when he jumped at me. Faster than a cheetah, faster then I could draw a breath. I never thought I’d die this way. I always thought I’d die peacefully in my sleep, or when Rachel decided to go full on psycho and threw me off a cliff. At least I won’t have to feel the pain. The hurt. I’ll just be floating here. In this vast darkness that is now my home. I guess there isn’t a heaven or hell. If there was, I’d be in hell no matter what, because I couldn't kill that son of a bitch. I couldn't mutilate him as he had done to my mom. And no heaven is ever going to take away this displeasure.
