From a distance, the city seemed to have stretched on end from east to west across the horizon. The megalopolis so remarkably quiet and tranquil from up here, to separate us even more from knowing what truly goes down there under those towering heights as if it were a mother protecting the great successors it gave birth to and raised. I was raised under those arms once, or so my mom claimed; not that I remember much of what it was like or who I met and how the people were like. Surely it was too far away up here to catch glimpse of any people who strolled the concrete pavements, only the ones who drove across the bridge, but still then you only had the quick second to look into their windows at them until they passed by. I always felt strangely looking like a stalker staring down a lone person in their car, even so when it was a family of four who only wanted to take a relaxing vacation, but now needed to worry about some kid they saw off the side of the road on a hill following them and plotting to ruin their vacation, or so perhaps. To my right, I looked up at Lea. Her legs swayed back and forth rocking the branch with her as she sat in the tree.
“We were there once, weren’t we?” She said. Her voice was so mellow and lingered forlornly. “I just don’t understand why we can’t just remember even the slightest bit of what it was like.”
Her eyes were intent on the city in front of us. “It sure would be nice to remember what it was like to see differently. Everything is just one big blur of tenebrous tint.” I proceeded.
The rustling of the tree drew my attention, and feet stomped to the ground.
“I forgot about that, huh. To be trapped in a simple world only to be left with guessing if it was your fault or not. What’s it like?” She plopped down on the grass next to me, sitting alike in my crossed legs position.
“Well when you put it like that, I feel more compelled to believe it was my fault, but no. It’s not simple. At first it’s fun to describe what color an apple may be, or the color of that tree there, or even what green looks like, but after a while it starts to dawn on you that this is what you have to live with. Where every moment looks dull.”
