Celestial Skyes (yes, with an e) is a rather ordinary girl. Well, except for the fact that she can get straight A's without much of an effort and has dark blue and purple streaks in her hair. However, that all came to change when she was forced away from her comfort zone and pushed into a world she never knew before. All of a sudden, she gained powers she had never wanted, and danger glared at her at every turn. The morals she has always known and believed in were mercilessly ripped apart. To make it worse, Celestial has become the exact opposite of who she wished to be: normal person. With her ordinary status stripped away, and monsters wanting to attack her at every turn, will Celestial be able to survive? Or will she perish by the hands of the bloody moon?

Ordinary Girl

My name is Celestial Skyes, or Celea for short, and I’m an ordinary girl living in an ordinary country called Cading. And yes, my surname is one with an ‘e’, not an ‘i’. It is a common misconception which led to a good deal of trouble for me in my earlier years. Basically, when I was younger, a lot of people liked teasing me about my peculiar name. They don’t anymore, of course. By the time I entered middle school, everyone was familiar with my strange name, and I even had amazing friends who would defend me when I rarely did get teased. Now, as a sophomore of Wellbrook High, I can fit in with any crowd I want. The only things slightly peculiar (if you can call it that at all) about me are my purple and dark blue highlights in my shoulder-length, brown hair, and my reputation as being a straight A’s student who has a rebellious streak.

Basically, there is literally nothing about me that screams, “Hey, this kid is different!” I’m just as ordinary as anyone can be. However, the same doesn’t go for the Crescents. The Crescents are peculiar people who has special powers gifted to them by a supernatural event called the Night of the Blood Moon. Every decade, four children from the age of 13-17 are chosen by the moon to gain extraordinary abilities. However, no one in Cading knows what exactly those powers are. Before we could even get enough time to study a Crescent, they suddenly disappear. No one knows where they go. That mystery has haunted Cading for a long time, and all children are forbidden to speak of it, for it was rumored that the more you talk about the Blood Moon, the more likely you are to be taken.

However, I know for a fact that I will never be chosen. It is simply not possible for an ordinary person like me. In fact, the very idea that I might become a Crescent is ludicrous. That was why I didn’t even attempt to put all those silly protective charms in my bedroom. And also why I never kept quiet whenever a secret discussion about the Blood Moon did take place at my school. It was with those thoughts and beliefs that I went to sleep on the Night of the Blood Moon with a peaceful feeling in my heart, for nothing can ever go wrong, right?
