During the 1980s, the Korean Government created a special summer camp for “gyopo” or foreign born teenagers where they could spend their summer in Seoul to learn about their motherland. While the intentions of the program were honorable, the activities of the teens were not. The program was eventually cancelled after a few years because the government simply could not control the youth.

When getting off the plane ride and walking into the airport, Yoongi stops in his tracks to see several men lined up holding signs that said what he assumed was Welcome in multiple different languages. They looked very enthusiastic, which made him want to barf.
The bus ride to the camp was most likely the worst few hours of Yoongi’s life. Spit flew around, the space was filled with yelling, and for some reason hip hop music blasted in the back.
Finally arriving at the camp, everybody was eventually sorted into different rooms. While Yoongi was putting his bag in the corner and trying to spread out a blanket on the floor, an arm wrapped around his neck. Yoongi immediately ducked down and looked over to see an extremely smiley guy looking him down.
“Sorry, too touchy??” The guy asked and he pushed his bright red hair away from his face, laughing.
“Just trying to unpack.” Yoongi responded quietly and somebody else walked in.
“I’m Hoseok, by the way.”
“Oh, are we introducing each other already? I’m Seokjin.”
Yoongi glanced over at the two, paused for a moment, then mumbled, “Yoongi.”
“2seok!!” Hoseok suddenly shouted and the two high five, already giving Yoongi the urge to facepalm until he dies.
“We’ll be the best team out there, right Seok number one?”
“Very, very true, Seok number two!”
Yoongi continued to unpack quietly as the two enthusiastically planned their adventures for the summer. He looked around once he finished, realizing how… sucky this place is. There’s no furniture whatsoever and everybody is just expected to figure everything out on their own.
“Where are you from, Yoongi?”
Yoongi turned over at the sound of his name, surprised that somebody cared enough to ask. He frowned. “America.”
“Oooh, America~” Hoseok cooed, stumbling over to pinch Yoongi’s cheeks. Yoongi slapped his hand away and Hoseok pouted exaggeratedly.
“Don’t hurt my Seok buddy!” Seokjin shouted and grabbed Hoseok by the arms. They both erupted into laughter and Yoongi sat down on his blanket, not sure how to react to the entire situation.
Soon enough, both Seoks sit down in front of Yoongi and stare at him with big, sparkling eyes.
“Ready for romance??” Seokjin asked, fluttering his eyes dramatically. He started pointing at his face and said proudly, “I won’t take too long, after all I am dashingly handsome.”
Yoongi held back the urge to roll his eyes and he responded softly, “Not looking forward to anything.”
“I for one am looking forward to the Hangul lessons,” Hoseok said excitedly, clasping his hands together. “I want to be authentic.”
Something you would say about a food. Yoongi, satisfied with the amount of socializing for the day, rolled onto his side and closed his eyes. This causes chaos in the room.
“Were we too boring?”
“I don’t think we were boring enough.”
“Seok one, what do we do?”
“I think we should attack!!”
Yoongi jumped up and shouted, “No attacking! Not tonight, at least.”
Hoseok and Seokjin pose innocently, Hoseok poking his cheek and puffing out his lips, and Seokjin making a V shape with his hands under his chin.
“Guess what?” Hoseok suddenly shouted, making both boys jump where they are. “I heard there’s a party tonight~”
It’s quiet and before anybody could say anything, Hoseok continued and shouted, “We should go!”
Yoongi chuckled nervously. “I don’t think we should-“
~
The lights are very blinding and it’s loud. That’s not fun.
Yoongi was detached from the two other boys since the beginning and now he can feel a panic attack rising in his throat, ready to spill out and kill people.
While running through the crowd and trying not to stab people with his elbow, he ends up doing it anyway, which elicits a loud, “Ouchie!”
Scared he may have murdered someone in a summer party, Yoongi spun around to see a boy rubbing his arm, pouting.
He’s cute. Yoongi suddenly has the urge to squeeze his cheeks, which makes him want to barf on the poor guy.
They walked away from the rest of the crowd and Yoongi immediately started checking all over the guy, hoping he didn’t draw any blood or anything.
“What’s your name?” Yoongi asked as he poked around, making the other squeak.
“Jimin. You’re Yoongi?”
Yoongi looked up, startled. “How do you know that?”
“Your friends, the Seok twins.”
“They’re not twins,” Yoongi said and straightened up, frowning slightly. “Don’t encourage them.”
Jimin smiled gently and nodded curtly. “I’ll be sure not to encourage their wild behavior.”
There was an awkward silence for some time before Yoongi suddenly started hearing changing from the other side of the room.
“What is that?” Jimin asked and Yoongi ignored his question, pushing past people to see a truly monstrous sight.
Hoseok and Seokjin are competing to see who can drink the most alcohol.
Yoongi, unsure of how to handle this situation, watched silently as Seokjin coughed up a bunch of his alcohol.
He stumbled through the people and broke up the game, grabbing both boys by their wrists and pulling them through the crowd, which elicits angry shouts and more chants.
Jimin decided to follow Yoongi closely behind, giggling when Hoseok decided to flirt shamelessly to the other.
Stumbling into the room, Hoseok pulled away from Yoongi’s grip and shouted, “Party!” Before collapsing on Yoongi’s blanket.
Yoongi cringed silently and let go of Seokjin, causing him to collapse right on top of Hoseok. This then made the two erupt into laughter, making Yoongi drop another blanket on them to muffle the sound.
“Uh, Yoongi…”
Yoongi turned over to see Jimin holding up a bottle of whiskey. He facepalmed and groaned loudly. “Oh my god.”
“What do we do with it??”
“Throw it in the trash.”
“But they’ll see it!”
“Then don’t throw it in the trash, Jimin!”
“I’M SCARED WHAT DO I DO???”
Yoongi paused to take a breath, watching as Jimin hyperventilated, gripping the whiskey bottle tightly. He snatched it from him. “Stay here, then.”
He walked out the room, walking slowly through the halls and trying to find a trash bin to throw it in. He tiptoed through the camp and let out a breath of relief when he finally finds a trash bin. Right when he’s about to throw the bottle away, he feels a hand grip his shoulder. Yoongi closed his eyes and said quietly, “Here we go.”
He turned over to see a man looking down at him. “You. My office.”
~
“So you’re telling me this isn’t your bottle of whiskey.”
“Yeah.” Yoongi said, frowning deeply.
“You just happen to have it in your hand and you’re sneaking around trying to find a good place to dispose of it.”
Pause.
“Well, now you make me sound stupid for defending myself.”
“Yoongi, what makes you think getting drunk on the first day of camp is a good idea?”
Yoongi puffed out his cheeks and looked away. “I want a lawyer.”
“This isn’t a crime scene, Yoongi.”
“I demand a lawyer, Mr. Tuan.”
“Just call me Mark. I sound old like that.”
Yoongi leaned back in his seat. “Am I off the hook then, Mark?”
Mark laughed. “Oh, you’re not. You’re picking up trash for a week.”
~
“But it’s not your whiskey!” Hoseok yelled as he threw a pillow at Seokjin’s direction out of anger.
“Hard to say that when you’re sneaking for a trash bin.” Yoongi mumbled, picking up the pillow and stroking it like a cat.
Seokjin made a random noise and rolled over on his back. “I’m in love.” he said dramatically.
Hoseok screamed and started clapping excitedly. “LOVE??? Who is my beloved twin in love with?!”
“Namjoon.”
“Namjoon?” Yoongi asked, frowning. He doesn’t know a Namjoon. Then again, the only people he knows are the Seoks and Jimin, so he can’t really act too dramatic over it.
Seokjin sighed dreamily and fluttered his eyelashes dramatically. “He’s the love of my life.”
“I think you’re overreacting.”
“We shared a whiskey bottle.”
“Oh, THAT’S true love!”
“It’s really not,” Yoongi frowned. “Wait, it’s not the whiskey bottle I had to throw away, right?”
It’s quiet. The silence speaks for itself. Yoongi shot up from where he’s sitting and went after Seokjin, reaching out to strangle him. Hoseok pulled Yoongi away desperately, screaming.
“YOU GOT ME IN TROUBLE BY MEETING THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE???”
~
“This food tastes like shit.”
Yoongi looked over and watched as Jimin picked at what he assumed is bulgogi. It just doesn’t look… the same. It looked gross, somehow.
“I think they heated that up from the freezer.” Seokjin said absentmindedly, staring at Namjoon.
Now that Yoongi knows who the hell Namjoon is, he can agree that he is in fact, cute. He has dimples, which is great. So does Hoseok, but Namjoon’s are more.. Beautiful.
“Go talk to him.” Yoongi said and Seokjin whipped his head around to look at him.
“Excuse me?”
“Talk to him. Bond over your shared whiskey,” Yoongi repeated himself, frowning a bit when Seokjin burst out laughing. “What’s so funny?”
“Me?? Talk to Namjoon???” Seokjin smacked Hoseok’s arm as he laughed, making him spit out his food then let out a fake laugh, confused as to what joke was just told.
“Yeah… Hoseok, isn’t it a good idea?”
Hoseok stared at him with wide eyes. “Wh- yeah!” He said and smiled brightly, still not sure what’s going on.
“I think the worst that can happen is he’s like, yo, that wasn’t too special, stop being gay.” Jimin chimed in, then realized he didn’t help at all, and sunk down a bit, slurping on his bulgogi.
Yoongi pat his back encouragingly and nodded a bit. “I agree. It won’t go bad, don’t worry.”
“The situation you just said is bad, though.” Seokjin sayid and Hoseok gasped loudly when he figured out what’s going on.
“You should totally get that ass!” Hoseok shouted and the entire cafeteria goes quiet.
Seokjin’s face went red and Yoongi turned over to see Namjoon looking over with a small smile. Maybe he is cute. Just not Yoongi’s type.
“You’re so gay,” Jimin suddenly said and slurped the rest of his bulgogi. “A bit like this dish.”
“How is bulgogi gay.” Yoongi asked.
“This is bulgogi??” Jimin asked, fascinated. He examined his bowl quietly.
Hoseok shoved Seokjin out his seat and watched with a giant smile as Seokjin crept his way to Namjoon’s table.
“If he confesses his undying love and gets accepted, we will be the one who caused it.” Hoseok said happily.
“And if he gets shanked, that will also be caused by us. So let’s cross our fingers.” Jimin said quietly and the two crouched together under the table to watch.
“I don’t have time for this.” Yoongi murmured and got up, grabbing his bowl and walking away.
~
“Maybe whiskey really is a good luck charm,” Jimin said for the tenth time that day. He’s holding a water bottle in front of his face, examining it closely. “How’s it different from a regular bottle?”
“I will kiss your lips off.” Yoongi whispered and Hoseok suddenly barged in the room, wrapping an arm around Yoongi. Yoongi smacked him.
“Seokjin is no longer a virgin!”
Jimin screamed.
“He is no longer the Relationship Virgin, trademark.”
“Did you just say trademark?”
Jimin screamed again. “THEY HAD SEX??”
“Didnt you hear me?” Hoseok asked. “He’s not a Relationship Virgin, trademark.”
“What does that mean”
“This is his first boyfriend.” Yoongi explained quietly.
The door slammed open and in came Seokjin, a mighty beast with a bleeding nose.
Hoseok rushed over and treated his wound as Jimin screamed.
Seokjin sat on Yoongi’s blanket (why is it always his??) and said sadly, “Everyone’s gay.”
“What.”
“I was at some martial arts class and all the gay people were feisty.”
“Hoseok said you’re not a virgin.”
“Jimin!” Hoseok gasped dramatically.
Seokjin looked between them, confused. “What?”
“I said you’re not a Relationship Virgin, trademark.”
“Which means you have your first boyfriend,” Yoongi looked over at Hoseok. “Stop saying trademark.”
“Never, homosexual.”
“My nose hurts.” Seokjin complained and fell over dramatically, causing Jimin to fan him frantically with a folded piece of paper.
“We’re going to do a trip to the border soon.”
“To Mexico?”
“To North Korea.” Jimin glared at Hoseok.
Yoongi smirked. “North Korean soldiers staring you down like you’re a scary pigeon? Great.”
“How did that analogy pop in your head?” Seokjin asked, sighing.
“To Mexico!” Hoseok shouted and marched out the room.
The rest of the boys stared at each other and pout. “To Mexico.”
