’Welcome to New York. We have arrived at John F Kennedy international airport. The local time is 10:00 a.m. and the temperature is 10 c’. The captain announced through the speaker. Ava sighed and kept her eyes closed and keep repeating herself everything was going to be okay.
‘mam’ the air hostess Neelam called out loud. She opened her eyes and got up from the seat and mumbled a thank you to her and about to leave when Neelam asked, “when will we see you again mam.”
‘soon, just six months and I will be back’ she replied.
‘have a nice stay mam’ Ava smiled at her and told her to take care and walked out. The cool breeze hit her skin making her shudder as soon as she came outside, momentarily ava put on the coat which was carried in her hand earlier and removed her hairband and loosened the hair letting them fall on her shoulders to protect her neck from the cold weather. There were two men in suits talking to themselves. They stopped talking as soon as they saw her approaching towards them.
‘Hello Miss Smith, I am Frank Bern, the new CFO of Smith enterprises in New York and this is Lennie my assistant’ the man in a black suit who is in his mid-fifty introduced and shaken their hands with her.
’Hello, it’s a pleasure to meet you and call me Ava, no formalities, I told my dad not to disturb you, but it seems like he didn’t listen. anyway, thank you so much for coming here and receiving me’ ava replied to them with a thick British accent and sweet smile.
‘no mam, we are happy to escort you, and we also wanted to meet our future boss and need to make sure we are on her good side’ said frank and they all laughed. Once they were in the car, she opened the car window leaned her head towards it and got lost in her thoughts.
Ava never in her life thought that she will be living in New York, one of the biggest metropolitan cities in the whole world with 8 billion population. Although its only for six months project work still it’s a great accomplishment for her. It’s tough to convince her parents but with the help of Kate and Sarah her childhood best friends she finally succeeded.
This is not her first-time visit to America she was here before with her parents and friends on holiday trips, she visited LV, California, and few other places but she has never been in New York. She was excited to start her internship but also petrified at the same time. Her cell phone ring woke her up from her thoughts.
‘hello, ava’ ava mother sounded worried. Her mother didn’t want to send her to the other country even just for six months. She tried her best to stop her but being stubborn like her father ava didn’t listen. Ava convinced both of her parents with her friend’s help. It took three months for them to agree.
‘hello mum, I made it here safely, and I’m going to my apartment now, I will call you back as soon as I reached’ she informed her mother and about to cut the call when Emma said her father wants to talk.
‘pumpkin, I told Frank to receive you, I hope you are not angry at me’ James told her and didn’t give her any chance to respond. He continued, ‘you can still change your decision and come back but I know you won’t, and I respect that, anyway if you have any problem at the office just let me know I will take care of everything.’
‘Dad, I didn’t even go to my apartment yet, you were asking me about problems and one more important thing. Even though I have problems I will not tell you, let me handle this, I want to learn everything by myself, and I certainly hope you will not interfere’ ava stated determinedly.
‘ok, pumpkin I am just letting you know that I am always there for you and are you sure you don’t want me to talk to Mr knight about your internship because I am sure he will be delighted to learn that you will work for them.’
‘DAD’ ava whined.
‘ok, ok kid, we both are worried about you, you are in another country now, just promise you will take care, we miss you, and we love you’ said her father in a loving tone.
Ava signed and said, ‘I am sorry dad, I promise I will take care, I miss you guys too, and I will be back before you know, don’t worry about me and papa, please take care of yourself and mum.’
‘ok, I love you’ said her father.
’I love you too guys, bye’she told them and cut the call.
‘they were worried about you’ stated Frank smiling at her.
‘yeah, this is my first time staying away from home, I mean back in London I stayed with my friends, but I always meet them in the weekends, now that I am here miles away from home. They were worried’ Ava said in sad tone missing them already. Frank smiled sweetly at her understanding of the situation. Lennie cleared his throat too loudly and started coughing and finally finished by getting a threatening glare from his boss.
’my sister is also going to the same company for her internship, her name is Hazel, you won’t be alone there, she can give some company for you, and I will tell her to meet you if you don’t mind’ Lennie told her with uncertainty in his voice and not looking at his boss.
‘really, thank you so much, I don’t mind at all, I would love to meet her, give her my number and tell her to call me’ ava replied him excitedly and given him her number. They arrived at her apartment. Ava was stunned as soon as she saw the studio.
It was a charming, big and cosy with white walls and white furniture. An old woman in grey hair and in old traditional maid clothes came from inside and introduced herself as being Maria, the housemaid.
‘I will bring something for you all to drink’ spoken Maria and went into the kitchen. The driver brought the baggage inside and left.
‘your car is parked in the basement, I will give you the driver number, and he will drive you to your work every day’ said Lennie.
‘no, I don’t need a driver, pass me the keys, and I know how to drive, just help me with the license’ uttered ava. Frank nodded his head. Maria brings coffee for them to drink and left. They talked to her about some random things. Ava liked them and enjoyed their company. She found out that Lennie is franks elder son and hazel is their younger daughter.
‘thank you so much for coming here and helping me’ exclaimed ava when both of them were about to leave. They smiled and nodded their heads and told her to call them at any time if she needs anything and went.
Ava took the master bedroom with balcony view which shows large buildings of New York City. Ava just sat on the bed when her phone suddenly rang. It was Kate calling her. She immediately answered the call.
‘bitch, I can’t believe you didn’t call us when you landed there, are you still alive’ its Sarah yelling on the phone.
‘stop yelling Sarah, I just landed here in the afternoon, I didn’t call you immediately because of the time difference, and yes I am still very much alive’.
Katie came to the view with MacBook in her hand and said ’so, how’s New York baby, did you like it or hate it’.
Ava signed profoundly and told ’I haven’t been here for even a whole day and you are asking me that question.′
‘whatever bitch, we are coming to New York this weekend so, don’t you dare to roam the city without us’ warned Sarah.
‘ok, we got to go and have nice beauty sleep, take rest, bye love ya’ shouted Sarah. Kate groaned and smacked Sarah’s forehead and muttered that she is going to be deaf in a few days if she keeps using that tone. Sarah just glared at her and ignored her. Ava just laughed at them.
‘Bye baby, love you, see you in 3 days, take care’ exclaimed Kate.
‘Bye honey, love you, come soon’ said Ava and hung up her phone.
Sarah and Kate and Ava, three of them were best friends since their kindergarten. Sarah and Kate were well-known celebrities in the world. Kate is a fashion designer who owns her own brand clothes, jewellery, and cosmetics named “Esma”. Sarah is a famous singer and also the brand ambassador for “Esma”. Ava was more into studies than those two, and one day she was going to handle the whole smith enterprises. Ava laid down on her soft bed and closed her eyes, immediately sleep taken her off to dreamland where she just wants to be.
