Cursed
Upon impact of his teeth against my neck, I was certain I had never before felt a pain as searing and as redoubtable as what his bite was subjecting me to in that moment. Like a book you’d sift through time and time again, until you’ve memorized nearly every chapter line by line, he tossed me to the cobblestones at his side, having had his fill of me, to where he’d never pick me up again. This was my hope. But when my throat, aching from my screams, alighted with a new, fiery thirst, I looked into his pit-like eyes, saw the quirk of his devilish sneer, as he motioned to the immobile body of my beloved lying before the horde of terrified townspeople, and I knew; my nightmare had only just begun.
