"Smoke Girl is a ghost story that not only deals with the horrors of the unknown, but casts a spotlight on some of the real life horrors of the past as well. Jae Gaffrey is a strong heroine, and instantly likable. Every instance of fire imagery leaps out at the reader, and the tension and pacing of events is steady. The villainous ghost is a suitable opponent to Jae, who never wavers in her conviction to rid him from this world and keep her family safe. She's a tour-de-force, filled with gritty determination, ready to face the reality of monsters and come out on top. Overall, the plot is a fast-paced and interesting, tackling a type of history that is rarely discussed. Though unfinished at the time of this review, Smoke Girl is well on its way to becoming a memorable addition to the horror/supernatural genre."
