Summary

With the fate of a kingdom in the balance, a desperate king puts into motion a plan that would have far reaching consequences, altering five young lives and endangering the very planet they live on. Upon the flesh of living planet Lumei, humans ruled. Maxia, a northern coastal kingdom, was the last standing country still wielding magic and dominated over all others. Until Farir, their neighboring country to the south, developed alchemy, a new type of energy manipulation. With this newfound power, they attempted to take the life of Maxia's King Bron Attreyus and failed, but not before their assassin escaped with the kingdom's only living heir. Over the next two decades, King Bron put into motion a plan to return his heir home that would drastically alter the lives of five young individuals: A soldier who fights for his family; a village girl who only wishes to heal the sick; a street orphan turned combat mage; the descendant of a powerful royal family; and a woman who wishes to kill the masses to save a few. With the fate of Lumei hanging in the balance, the people of this tale could only become heroes to all, or catalysts of great destruction.

Prologue

Lumei and Lunei, planet and moon, both lived and loved. They were beings forever fated to float together through the cosmos, unable to reach out and touch the one they loved who soared so close by as they revolved around a bright sun. As the centuries turned to millenniums, they slept. Unable to die or to truly live.

Until Lunei awoke.

She opened her eye and held within its gray gaze Lumei, a planet that deserved more. So she gave him the only thing she could: Life.

Lunei wept until there were no more tears to give and returned to slumber only to wake again and weep some more.

The tears crashed down upon Lumei, splashing through his gorges and valleys with water that sprung life over millions upon millions of years. Rivers flowed, lakes filled, and the oceans rose and fell along the edges of the land.

Then came humans, who harnessed these lands and waters to create a living for themselves and, over a great deal of time, began to master magic. They manipulated Lumei’s energy and endangered the planet as they fulfilled their selfish desires of greed and war.

Humans were not what Lunei expected them to be, but they too needed time and the right guidance. So the moon wept once more and blessed them with gifts. Two special children who would nudge mankind in the right direction. One who would become the first king of the newly founded Maxia, King Sehr Attreyus, and one who would serve him on Lunei’s behalf, Geral Atel.

Two families would branch from these men. The Attreyus family, who were bestowed a power that would help them rule without equal: Absolute control over Lumei’s waters. And the Atel Family, who were capable of harnessing Lunei’s white flame in order to check the Attreyus family’s power.

Sehr and Geral were raised together as orphans, but when they grew, they banded together magic users and warriors alike to travel and conquer the lands of Maxia, where Sehr Attreyus built his kingdom and created what are now known as Sehr Stones.

But these powerful chunks of magic could not maintain a physical form for long. Shortly after their creation, all but the green stone, the stone that balances all life and death, were lost.

When King Attreyus aged, he left Maxia with a single parting gift. One last stone that would contain within it the souls of the eleven individuals who fought at his side to take Maxia and create a thriving kingdom. The eleven soldiers considered it their purpose, and bowed as he used the green Sehr Stone to bind their souls to another stone, warping it into a violet, unpredictable source of energy.

Upon the stone’s creation, it vanished, and manifested itself randomly throughout the world. It was spotted, even held a few times, but always evaded capture as it waited for its rightful owner.

After centuries of patience, that person finally came.
