Sam
As the day fades into a cool fall night, Sam threw his coat over the coat rack and sat on his couch. He-
"Excuse me, but can you stop narrating everything I do?"
What?
"I'm talking to you... whoever's narrating my actions."
How... do you know I exist?
"Protagonists can break the 4th wall; can it change to my point of view?"
That's not up to me, Sam. It's up to the author and she can easily let you die at the end of the story if you want to keep disrespecting the way life crumbles before you.
"..."
That's what I thought... Now, where was I? Ah yes.
Sam is a fine gentleman. He made a decent living with his job and due to donations through his YouTube channel, TheSalmonGames, he's able to have a roof over his head. His fans are happy to help him due to the charm he has within his aura which seems to be able to flow through the screen of whatever device they use and surround them in warmth and care. If someone were to try and claim that Sam was a bad man, they would have a hard time trying to back up their claim.
He was asleep when someone or something made a noise within his living room. Sam couldn't move anything except for his hazel eyes. Usually, Sam would just brush off the dangerous feeling, but it was different this time. His danger senses were through the roof as one of his cameras tipped over. The camera that fell was firmly attached to his computer screen. Something was clearly inside his living room, but he couldn't see it until something dripped upon his shoulder.
On the ceiling was something that seems to be a silhouette of a person with glowing white eyes and razor-sharp teeth. It was staring at the dark oak haired man with hunger in its eyes.
"Looks like dinner came to me," it said as it licked its lips. Sam wanted to escape, but Sleep Paralysis wouldn't let him move anything except his eyes. The creature dropped down upon Sam's couch making him scared for his life. He was waiting for it to eat him alive, but something dark blue yanked the pitch black monster off of Sam.
Its back was facing him, but it had a white mane as its scales sparkled like stars in the night sky. It stood on its hind legs as it held a long stick with a chain at the end of it. Needless to say who Sam favored over the creatures.
"Ain't no way am I letting you eat Samuel Mattson!" it yelled in a feminine voice.
"Luna; of course, you have a thing for him too!"
"Us little guys have to look out for each other, don't we?"
A fight took place as Sam eventually got up. He wanted to get out of his living room, but the fight made him go out his window and into the empty abyss below him. Sam closed his eyes thinking he would either be eaten by whatever was in his house or go splat when he finally reached the ground, but neither of those fates came. Instead, he landed on Luna's back making her yelped and went down a little bit, but she caught her ground and flew towards the moon.
"Either you're a lot heavier than you look in your videos or I'm a lot weaker than I thought I was!" she said as she flew into the clouds leaving the creature stuck in Sam's floating house. No pun intended if there was one.
As Sam took in the beauty of the night sky, he kept thinking to himself that he was dreaming. There was no way that thing could exist in the real world or this nonwinged talking dark blue creature named Luna who saved him, but here he was. Riding the back of this new friendlier creature to a place far away from whatever that creature was enjoying the night sky and all the stars most people don't see in cities. In the distance, Sam could almost swear he saw a nighttime themed castle.
"Hey... uh... Luna is it? What exactly are you and is that your castle in the distance?"
"I'm a dragon and yes. That is my castle in the distance. My name's Luna Light. I already know you a lot about you. You're my first successful rescue."
"Please don't tell me you fail to rescue everyone else prior to now..."
"No. I'm still kind of new to this. I just got my castle last night after I helped Chris save my soul brother. You're my first successful rescue. Anyways, you should be transforming soon. When we get to the castle, you should take the form of whatever you believe you are or whatever you really are on the inside. I got lucky with my dragon form, but I guess that's what happens when you're born the year of the dragon, feel like a dragon, and claim to be one on your YouTube channel."
"Seriously?"
"If Gar claims to be a wolf demon, then I get all the right in the world to be the daughter of the moon and half dragon!"
Sam tried his best to hold back his laughter, but Luna could tell he was just like the others who hear her story for the first time.
"I'm sorry, really I am, but I can't control it!"
"I'm used to it... We're here."
Sam couldn't take his eyes off it. The castle was layered with snow as the moon made it shine like diamonds. Trees could be seen along the edge of the castle with a light coat of snow as some woodland creatures made little paw prints in the snow. A fountain was present in the very middle within the castle walls, untouched by the cold, signifying that was the garden of the castle as flags of a rainbow wing with a photo negative L flowed in the wind.
Luna plopped right at the base of the moat panting. She clearly didn't think she was that weak or that Sam was that heavy or else she would have planned the rescue a little bit better.
"Thank god we finally made it back," she said as Sam got off of her. "Another second of you on my back and I probably would have fallen from the sky. No offense, but I'm weak as hell."
"It's okay, but where are we and what happened to my home?"
"Oh yeah. That wasn't your home."
"WHAT?!"
"I mean, it LOOKED like it, but it wasn't. Look, this isn't reality. There would be no Nightmares in reality unless they've managed to break a peep and steal their body making them a terrible being."
"What are you talking about? If this isn't real, then this has to be a dream!"
"Well, this is real, but this also isn't real... Yes, we're in The Dream World, but you're not physically here. You're safe and sound in your bed within your home which is still attached to the ground. This place is real, but it can only be accessed when your soul leaves your body which happens when you dream or in a coma."
"So this a realistic dream with actual monsters in it that takes control of a human's body?"
"Pretty much and I'm a part of the peeps that save the humans. Now you're one of us, but that doesn't make you invincible, Sam. It's still highly possible to become a victim as a Savior no matter how many people you save."
"How did you become one?"
"That's a story for another time. For now, I'm taking you inside."
Luna whistled telling her creations, or her children as she calls them, that she has returned home. The drawbridge lowered before them as some of Luna's children came out from the unfrozen water while others flew in from above. Most of them were girls that looked similar to Luna.
"Who are they? Are they your siblings?"
"No. They are story characters from my head."
"But why do the girls look like you?"
"I was used as a template and then go from there. The whole castle has my children within its walls, but there are male children here like Tyler White," she said as she pointed at the teenage boy in the water. He was the only male in the water to be seen. "He is a part of an abandoned story called Guardians of Life. I couldn't think of anything else for his story, so I abandoned it. I didn't mean to, but that's what happens when more and more story ideas pop into your head."
"What happens to the abandoned stories?"
"They just sit wherever they are at. If they left off at a cliffhanger, then that's the end unless I finish it."
"You don't tell the readers that they're discontinued or not?"
"Sometimes, but only if I don't plan on going back to it at all."
"I feel so bad for them..."
"At least they're out for the public vs the ones who never leave my head."
Sam stayed silent as a bell rang signifying that lunch was ready. Everyone made their way towards the dining room and took a seat or two depending on the creation. Sam sat next to Luna and some kind of lizard girl as more and more creations of all shapes, colors, and sizes found their seats. Some flew into their seats while others just popped out of nowhere. As Sam looked over all of them, he wondered how the hell could one person remember all of their names.
A train whistle was heard as a few more creations came in. It had food for everyone. Some of which made Sam question if Luna was sane since one of the characters looked like a Mutt Of Many Animals and she had a human corpse on her plate.
"Uh... Luna? Is she gonna eat me?"
"Who? Rosetta? No. She only eats bad people and people who were already dead. None of my children will hurt you if you're kind to us."
"Mother Luna! Mother Luna!"
"Yes, Von Von?"
"Will we drink tonight?"
"Of course we will," Luna replied as a plane came from the ceiling dropping packages before everyone. Inside was everyone's personal preference for drinks. Some had milk while others had tea or other drinks that they loved. Sam had coffee in his package while Luna had Barq's Root Beer. All of which were in mugs that could fit three cans of soda. "Here's to the first outsider of our castle. Congratulations, Sam, on arriving without losing a limb. To that, we shall drink. Cheers!"
"Cheers!" everyone replied as the mugs clinger together to celebrate Sam's arrival. With that, the feast began. Everyone chowing down on the meal before them and chatting among themselves. Some were already making comments about the new dark oak haired Savior claiming he was the cutest in the whole room while others were thinking about how their mother would write a story about him after she finished the current story she's working on. Sam pretended not to notice, but when Luna's creations were pointing at him, he felt a little bit embarrassed, to say the least.
"Sam?" asked Luna. "What's wrong? Don't you like your rabbit stew with bacon strips?"
"I do, but why are they pointing at me?"
"They're probably saying nice things about you. My creations call me 'Mother Luna' because they share something in common with me. They all share a big heart just like me. They're probably just shy on saying what they think of you."
Sam nodded as he continued eating his meal. He'd sometimes take a quick glance at Mo- I mean Luna, just to get a better look at her. Her scales were dark blue which sparkled a little in the light matching the night sky while her mane was white as the moon. Sam thought it could also be red like the blood moon he saw last night. Her body almost had a human-like appeal to it. She had only four fingers and her claws didn't look too sharp, but the one feature that didn't quite fit was her eyes. You would think that a dragon of the night would have eyes to match the rest of their looks, but that didn't apply to Luna's eyes. Her chocolate brown eyes were definitely human.
After dinner, everyone went their own ways hanging out either with people from their own story or talking to other children that fit their category. Luna smiles as her children enjoy themselves and try to make Sam feel at home. That was a common thing for Luna.
Luna was a protective kind, quiet person, but she will never shut up if she starts talking about her stories. She was passionate about every character she had since they represent something she likes. Every character she made had a soul and was connected to her own. They are different versions of what she wants to be.
"So what will you turn into Sam?" asked a child named Connie. She was an animatronic cat made for a game of killer robots at a pizzeria. "Mother Luna said you should be transforming soon!"
"I don't know. She said I might turn into a fish due to my YouTube Channel, but I guess we'll never know until it's time."
Connie nodded as Rover the Pirate Dog called her over.
"Gotta go, Sam. Talk to you later."
"Wait a minute Connie, I want to know more about Luna."
"Which one?"
"There's more than one Luna?"
"Yep, but the Library has everyone's story so you're bound to fine whichever Luna you're looking for there should be there."
Sam took Connie's advice and tried to find the Library, but the castle was more like a labyrinth. Around every corner, more and more doors were present either with labels or pictures of their respective genera. While the castle felt cluttered, it felt organized yet unorganized at the same time. The doors had more rooms inside of them with labels responding to the children's respective story. The animatronic children were under one category while the elemental children were under another and so on. Sam had to ask for directions to get to the Library in the end.
The Library was filled with books as a Library should be; nothing really stood out except for the different colors of the books. All of with were in order by the day of they were first created.
Almost every story had a girl as the main character, but the newer stories were a bit more flexible on having a guy as the protagonist. Sure enough, Connie was right about there being multiple Lunas. None of which seemed to match the one who saved him.
"Trying to find information about me, Sam?"
"Luna, hi. Yes... I thought I could find you here since Connie said the Library has everyone's story."
"It does."
"Then where's your story?"
A bell rang signifying that it was getting closer and closer to leaving time.
"Sorry, Sam, but it's almost time to leave. We have to save them before the Nightmares get to him/her and make them a bad person. Come with me."
Sam sighed as he followed Luna. He wanted to know more about her since she seems like a nice dragon, but he couldn't find anything about her. He wanted to find the truth about Luna so he knows for sure that she's telling the truth.
