Synopsis

Lamina lives a life filled with blood and death, shed by her own hand for her survival. Sanguis Interficientis, the Blood Slayers. This is the class of people Lamina has belonged too since she was nothing more than a young teen. The Blood Slayer Class is filled with those who are forced to fight to the death in the Arena for the entertainment of the spectators. Those who are a part of this class are slaves, criminals, or have joined of their own free will. Lamina is none of these.

Lamina became a part of this life after the death of her father, who was the best fighter the Arena had ever seen. He had been falsely accused of murdering Lamina’s uncle, who was a noble, and unwillingly thrust into this life. Once killed in battle years later, the greedy owners of the Arena discovered his child. Being mistaken for a boy was the only thing that saved Lamina from a worse fate than being a Fighter. She could have become a servant in the Arena, forced to obey any and all demands given to her by anyone of a higher station, especially susceptible to the orders of men. Many of the young slaves bought by the Arena become servants, very few were worthy of becoming fighters.

For years Lamina has lived this way, never questioning it. Until the day someone she considered a friend, a boy she had trained since day one and her only friend in the Blood Slayer Class, challenges her to a Sanguis Duellum – a Blood Duel. The rules of the Arena state a Blood Duel challenge must be accepted, leaving Lamina no choice. Now she must enter the Arena and choose: kill her friend, or be killed? Will she be able to continue being a Blood Slayer, or will it be time for Lamina to escape and explore the world?

Is it possible to escape from a life in the darkness and survive in the light? Lamina has only one chance to find out.

Margot: The plot is good. Sometimes the descriptions were a bit telling instead of showing it to the reader. The pacing is good, the struggle of the MC is believable and well written. It was difficult to stop reading and I hope the second book will soon be uploaded. Well done!
