CHAPTER 1
Mr. SOLOMON HOLMES
Solomon of Winterland was no more a young ordinary boy after his 13th birthday. To the outside world he was the same young playful ordinary boy, but deep down inside, he even started disliking his own name. One might wonder how on earth can someone dislike his own name. Well, it all started with the birthday gift from his father Professor Jack Hardy ‘A Study in Scarlet’ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. As he began to study the book, he was amazed even at the very first page and made up his mind to become a detective like Sherlock Holmes.
“Why isn’t my name Sherlock Holmes?” Solomon murmured to himself and regretted not being called by the name of Sherlock Holmes. He liked the book so much that he read each and every word of it so carefully, slowly, and with the utmost attention. He was so much in love with the book that he could quote each and every sentence from the book precisely. His curiosity about Sherlock Holmes grew to such an extent that he started buying books about him one after the other. He began to train his powers of observation and promised to help others by his Science of Deduction. He started having vivid dreams about Sherlock Holmes, and in some of his dreams, he even helped cops solving mysteries, which were otherwise considered as the most difficult cases. Amid all these thoughts and dreams, he soon realized that one person was missing from his life, and that person was none other than Dr. John H. Watson, the one and only friend of Sherlock Holmes. Soon this thought led him to his friend, David, determined to be a doctor. So he decided to make David his partner in his mission. His hard work and perseverance made others think about his normalcy. By then, his obsession to become like Sherlock Holmes grew to such an extent, perhaps, his chromosome was blessed with an extra gene named ‘Sherlock 221B gene’. He began to practice the Science of Deduction and analysis, on anyone he encountered. He was practicing it so much so that many called him a lunatic. For instance, one day, he saw his elder sister anxious and tensed, with a cell phone in her left hand while the right hand was busy finding something.
“Your cell phone is dead, so you are tensed. Busy finding your charger? Here it is.” said Solomon to his sister handing her over the charger.
“Gracias, Mr. Solomon Holmes, gracias. But, mister, it’s a book, not a charger that I am searching for. Now, either you help me finding it or get out of my room.” cried his sister.
Although failed miserably in his attempt but he loved the name ‘Solomon Holmes’, given by his sister. He left her room immediately.
Though he failed frequently but did not give up on trying to learn the Science of Deduction. His understanding of the subject deepened with time. Solomon’s Science of Deduction was still not as perfect as Sherlock Holmes, but it continued to improve.
