Chapter 1
There was the rev of an engine and a screech of tires, as an emerald green Ferrari skidded into the gravel car park of Sword & Cross - a bleak reform school for psychos. Then there was the click clack of heels on the maroon tiles. That’s when it hit Cam, like a brick wall. She was here he hadn’t seen her in decades, maybe even centuries. He didn’t need to turn around to know it was his younger sister, he just knew, like he always knew.
He turned around anyways, she was as graceful as ever, walking with ease in her six inch heels, he never understood how or why she did it, she didn’t need them she was tall enough already, and when she wore her heels she was almost as tall as him. Her hair was longer than the last time he saw her, she wore it down so that it was hanging mid way down her back. It was dark brown, just like his, but under the hideous fluorescent lights it looked like a dark abyss of long shaggy hair. She wore gold rimmed sun glasses with blue-green lenses, even though it wasn’t sunny, but she didn’t look odd or out of place, she pulled it off.
She pulled off the black uniform so well, tight black jeans and a tight black turtle neck with her trade mark denim jacket, she looked stunning, just as she always did. Cam had bought her that jacket many many decades ago, he was surprised to find she still had it. Under her sleeves he could see the head of her snake tattoo peaking out, it was everywhere of green you could imagine with tiny flecks of shiny, metallic gold. Her tattoo matched her snake ring which was situated on her middle finger, twisting up her finger as was Cams, they bought them centuries ago at an Israeli market. On her ring finger data gold ring with a black gem in the center, reminding Cam of whom her boyfriend was.
Cam was only bought back from his observation when he felt something run into him, but not something but someone, her arms wrapped tightly around his neck and his around her waist lifting her slightly off the ground.
“long time no see, big brother” she whispered into his neck, her voice now had a slight Italian ring to it. Though last time it had been French and the time before that Spanish.
“hello to you too, little sister”
When he finally placed her back on solid ground she pushed her sun glasses from her nose upwards so that they sat on top of her head, revealing her emerald green eyes, which locked his emerald green eyes, he saw genuine joy in them, something he hadn’t seen in a long long time.
“Italy, huh? How was that?” He asked her, not just to make small talk he was genuinely interested to hear what she’d been up to this time, every time she surprised him with what she said. And he would be left in awe.
“It was amazing, you should go sometime. The scenery was gorgeous, the people were gorgeous and man I was a gorgeous dancer.” She had that cocky little smile on her lips as she said those last few words.
“What dancing did you do this time around? Street dance? Jazz? Belly dancing?” He didn’t need to ask, he knew what she would say, but he loved to tease her.
“All wrong I was... Drum roll please, surprise surprise a ballet dancer” she played it off as though it meant nothing to her but she always loved ballet. You could tell by the way she stood always in third position.
~ Cam thought back to the first time he saw her perform, in none other than Italy, the music began playing and she came out of the wings looking so so majestic, he could have watched her all day but it was over too soon for both Cam and Trinity. Ballet was the most recurring of her many many past times ~
Cam and Trinity’s catch up was cut far too short when the barrel-chested attendant with ruddy checks and a clip board clamped under an iron bicep began droning on and on about “meds, beds and reds”.
Then a girl, Luce, hurried in and slipped into the group, she had short, choppy almost black hair and she looked so so lost. The others consisted of Cam, obviously, Gabbe, perfect little Gabbe with her blonde hair and manicured nails and another boy who’s name Trinity didn’t know.
“Could you, uh, could you repeat that?” Luce asked the attendant. “What was it, meds-?”
“Well, look what the storm blew in,” the attendant said loudly, then continued, enunciating slowly: “Meds. If you’re one of the medicated students, this is where you go to keep yourself doped up, sane, breathing, whatever.” The attendant said in a saccharine tone.
“Got it.” Luce stated. “Meds.”
Luce looked at the other students around her, Trinity only realised this when she heard a southern drawl of “I’m Gabbe,”
Then Luce made eye contact with Cam, both standing as still as statues, until the attendant interrupted them by making a loud throat-clearing noise.
“Those of you who’ve learned the
ropes are free to go after you dump your hazards.” The attendant then gestured to a large card board box under a sign that said in big black letters PROHIBITED MATERIALS. “And when I say free, Todd and Trinity. I mean gymnasium-bound to meet your preassigned student guides”
Beside Cam, low enough for only him to hear was his sister expressing her joy dripping with sarcasm “oh goody how fun!” Cam snickered slightly but quickly shut up not wanting to get Trinity in trouble within her first hour of being at the reform school.
The five of them dumped their hazards: Gabbe pulling out a three-inch pink Swiss Army knife, Cam reluctantly dumped a can of spray paint and a box cutter and Todd let loose several books of matches and a small container of lighter fluid. Trinity dumped in her emerald green lighter and two boxes of cigarettes.
“Shoes” the attendant simply stated, whilst looking at Trin.
“Huh? You like?” She asked with a sly grin on her full ruby lips, knowing full well what the attendant wanted.
“Off”
She rolled her eyes and held onto Cams shoulder for support as she removed her heels and placed them into the box. She now stood just under Cams shoulder.
Cam looked down at the floor to discover that his bad ass little sister was wearing glittering, multi-coloured dinosaur socks, he snickered again earning himself a light punch on the arm.
Everyone dumped their phones into the box, everyone except Luce, she dropped in her phone after some prompting causing a sad thunk sound.
Todd, Gabbe and Trinity headed for the door to the muggy outdoors. Cam on the other hand stayed behind to kindly offer to fill Luce in as to what she missed this idea was automatically dismissed.
So Cam followed the others through the door, finding his sister leaning against the side of the building, now wearing black converse. “I’m going to assume that she-man back there didn’t take you up on that ever so kind offer?” She said pushing off the concrete wall to walk side by side with Cam.
“Your assumptions are correct. But what if they weren’t? And she-man did take me up in my ever so kind offer?” He counter argued.
“Well then, I would have been stood out here looking like an idiot.”
“Oh, so nothing new there then.” He joked earning him another punch in the arm.
They walked in silence for a little bit, but they both knew how much Cam hated silence do he was the first to break it.
“Cigarettes huh?” He asked.
“Yeah, couldn’t quit. Plus it’s not like it’s gonna kill me, do don’t be so condescending, big brother.”
“I wasn’t being condescending, I was only asking. Plus I could really use one right now, little sister.”
“Well how about we skip going to the gym as I just do happen to have an extra pack.” She suggests with a sly smile.
“You know I’ve always been worried that I was the one corrupting you but maybe your the one corrupting me, The Throne will never take me back now.” He said mockingly as they veered off toward the cemetery.

Them cemetery was a creepy old thing that sank down slightly in the centre, the temperature dropped drastically but it was still humid. There were piles upon piles of wet leaves, that looked almost like slime.
They sat there perched atop of tomb stones, cigarettes in hand, Cam looked at her and realised, “you don’t have a lighter.”
“dont need one” she replied nonchalantly, she then snapped her fingers and both cigarettes lit up.
They sat there in silence for a while, occasionally pulling them up to their lips to take a drag. After a while Trinity lay her head on Cams shoulder, a smile playing on her lips as Cams arm wrapped around her, stroking her arm.
“I missed you, you know.” She said suddenly breaking the silence. Her words caught Cam off guard so much so that for a moment, for the first time in his existence, he was speechless.
“I missed you too,” he whispered. This made her smile “when you were in Italy, I uh I came to see you dance I was gonna talk to you but I couldn’t and then when I finally plucked up the courage I saw you with Him.” He said the last word with an undertone of hatred, hoping she wouldn’t pick up on it. But she did, she knew Cam hated her boyfriend she could blame him, but he wasn’t all bad, not to her anyways.

Texas - 1876
Cam and Trinity had joined a group of travellers as they trekked across the dusty wilderness of northern Texas. They often stuck together purely because Cam liked knowing she was safe, she was one of the only people Cam truly cared about.
He walked up to her tent, he wasn’t entirely sure why, he just had a feeling that he had to check up her. It was a sickening feeling in his stomach one that made him want to curl up in a ball on the ground.
When he slipped into her tent his shock was indescribable. She lay asleep with her back to him her wings - in this light they looked pure black, like the night, with golden flecks but in daylight they became even more beautiful they were green and blue and purple - free, one draped over her body and another body. The other body belonged to man not much older than Cam, he had auburn wavy hair, icy blue eyes that stared into Cams emerald green ones and a sly twisted smile on his lips when he saw Cam. Cam stood frozen. He watched as the man trailed his hand up and down her wing as she and her wings trembled with pleasure. His other hand held her close to him as though he was trying to keep her safe, but he didn’t care about anyone but himself.
By this point Cams shock had somewhat died down. “Lucifer”
“Cameron” the other man replied.
“What are you doing? I swear if you’ve hurt her I will kill you?!” Cam knew he couldn’t kill Lucifer, angels were hard to kill. He walked over to his sister, stroking her face and pulling her to him whilst wrapping the blanket around her. She and Cam both sat on the floor, her back leaning against the bed her wings now out of sight.
“Hey...” Cam said, his voice soft and his hands placed on both sides of her face stroking her cheeks with his thumbs as a means of comforting her.
She looked taken aback as she looked from Cam back to her bed finding Lucifer still lying there naked.
“You know who he is don’t you?” He asked still continuing with the soft tone. She nodded in reply. Cam let out a sigh, maybe he was annoyed maybe he was just tired, it was hard to decipher. “Then why did you do it, sweetie?”
"I-I I don’t know, I’m sorry” she rested her head in her brothers shoulder.

The two of them stayed in the cemetery a little while longer, each of them lighting another cigarette. But before they could finish and head to class a teacher rudely interrupted them catching them both in the act of smoking and earning them both a detention at the crack of dawn.
They treked back to the lobby to where the hazard box both was kept. “What a brilliant start to my new school, wouldn’t you agree?” She joked.
“Couldn’t have gone any better.” He joked back.
As they entered the doors they found Luce to which Can advised her that “this place isn’t afraid to do a strip search, do if your packing any other hazards,” he dumped his other hazards and Trinity did the same, “save your self the trouble.”
Behind Luce, Arriane laughed under her breath, this was when Cam became aware of her presence.
“Arriane,” he said evenly.
“Cam,” she returned.
“Hi Arriane, how are you? Long time no see” said an overly joyous belonging to his sister.
Arriane rolled her eyes before attempting to say her name as evenly as she as Cams, “Trinity” but you could sense the under tone of hatred.
“You know them?” Luce whispered.
“Don’t remind me,” Arriane said, dragging Luce out the door into the grey and swampy morning.
“You know Cameron, I don’t think she likes me very much.”
They walked towards the sad bleak building in which they had their first class. They stood outside the building until the bell rang, cause it’s not like they had anything better to do. They talked and chatted about their happenings in recent years, Cams life was no where near as exciting as Trinity’s. He soon discovered that she had been an astrophysicist, a theoretical physicist, an artist and a dancer. Before they knew it more and more people began to mill around the building. But neither of them took any notice they were far too busy catching up. The bell rang and every one reluctantly shuffled into the dark, dingy class room.
