Chapter 1
September 3rd, 2018
First day of School
NATHAN's POV:
Senior year.
The year that changes everyone: physically, mentally, or emotionally. Chatter fills the halls as girls hug one another and boys greet their friends.
Each of them speaking those unspoken words, "This is our last year together".
I hung my head down low as this year would be never-changing, like the past years before. The bell rang as students hustled to their classroom, not wanting to be late on their first day back.
A girl with raven colored hair bumped into me, muttering an apology to me. Pausing where I was, I saw her walking off towards the opposite end of school. Her shoulders slouched as she kept walking.
Shrugging, I got back to heading towards my destination, my home room teacher stood outside the door greeting students.
"Good morning, Nathan! Excited for your senior year?" Mrs. Wells beamed at me.
"Yeah, let's start it so I can graduate quicker." I mumbled as I just smiled.
Kelli sits in the corner of the room at our usual table, marking it the fourth year that we sat there together everyday. She smiles at me and waves for me to join her, I smile at her and place my bag in the empty seat beside us.
"You excited?" She asked, chewing on a hash brown.
"Yes, I am very excited to be here again. What about you, Kelli?" I smirk, nudging her side.
Her face scrunches up in pain as realization hits me like a brick, "Oh shit, I forgot, how bad does it hurt?!"
"It's not as bad as before, stings a little. But it's worth it." The girl smiled. A month ago, Kelli had ungergone augmentation mammoplasty, or commonly known as top surgery. And ever since she came out of it, she's been the happiest I've seen her in a long time.
"I bet senior year is gonna be your best year yet."
"It will be. Because now, I can finally be myself and no one can shame me for it."
"Did the doctor give you the go ahead to come back to school?" I questioned, concerned for her health.
She laughed, "Yes, he did. Everything's fine, I'll be fine, don't worry about me Nathan."
The tardy bell rang and Mrs. Wells entered the room, closing the door behind her. Rubbing her hands together, she opened her mouth, "You made it!"
And that's when it hit me.
This was my last year of high school.
