Chapter 1

i enjoy the smell of cigarettes

and the way they burn my lungs

the smoke wraps around my throat

and whispers in my ear

"ill kill you if you dont stop"

the problem with that is

i dont care

i want your smoke to tighten

around my lungs

like a cobra strangling its prey

tighter and tighter

bluer and bluer

until

*pop*

my head rolls off my shoulders

leaving my blackened lungs to

fend for themselves

having nothing left

i welcome the pain that comes with

a cigarette

i want my lungs to burn

with anticipation

waiting for the next time

im alone

outside

with a lighter in my hand

and a cigarette dangling from my bottom lip

it falls from my fingers

twisting in the air

smoke flitting in the light

it bounces as it hits the ground

and sizzles under my boot

i open a new pack of Marlboro cigarettes

and place a new one on my tongue

i enjoy the smell of cigarettes
