Chapter - 1

‘Happy moment.....Happy moment......Happy moment’ were ever I turn all I could hear were those two words. I seriously don’t get, what this ‘Happy Moment’ means. And why do people gang over this particular phrase. I clearly remember the day when I heard this word for the first time. It was my parents 10th Anniversary. I was barely a nine years old child, a curious one too.

One of my father’s friends came to my father and questioned “In this 10th anniversary I want you to share your happy moment. ”

Before I could hear my father’s reply I was taken away from there by my mother. I was disappointed when I didn’t get to know ‘what this happy moment mean?’ After everyone left I went to my parent’s room. Even though I knew my parents were dead tired, still I went there. My parent’s stared to get worked out when they saw me standing by the door and bombarded me with questions, which I knew they would. So I patiently answered all their questions.

When I was sure enough that my parents were no more worried I turned to my mother and asked “Mom, what is happy moment?”

My mother gave her best smile and said “Baby, happy moment is something that you achieve, and that achievement gives you immense happiness that you have never experienced in your whole life.”

Being a nine years old child I couldn’t get what my mother was trying to say. I went from there not before wishing my parent’s good night. It might have been an hour or so I was pondering over on what my mother said about happy moment, I heard a knock. I turned and saw my mother and father standing by the door waiting for my permission. I blinked my eyes and showed my approval. They came in and sat on either side of my bed. My mother took me in her lap and gave me a tight hug and kissed my forehead.

When we were revealing the silence I heard my mother saying “Do you know, the happiest moment of my life is when I gave birth to you and got to hold my very own flesh in my hands.”

I could see my mother revealing the moment with tears in her eyes. I wondered, ‘if it is her happy moment then why there are tears in her eyes’. Happy moments are supposed to be a happy one, if I am not wrong. When my mother felt she had been watched she gave a teary smile and hugged me even tighter and kissed my head with affection and my father pressed my mother’s hand as a silent support.

To break the ice my father turned toward me and questioned “Do you know why I call you Sona?”When I nodded ‘no’, my father grinned at me and said “When for the first time you called me paa I felt as if I became the world’s richest man just in a day. It is a unique feeling which I could never describe in words. That is why I call you Sona- which means gold. Moreover it was my third happiest moment. My first and second happy moments were meeting your mother and getting married to her, which I would never forget not until I live in this world.”

Even though I did not get anything on what my parents said but they had a content look which stopped me from interrogating them further. There was one thing which I got to know about this happy moment - it’s a priceless possession which every individual treasure more than their life and I am thrilled to find out my very own happy moment. With these thought I closed my eyes to sleep.
