Summary

Sofi is struggling to find a meaning to her life. She meets a sharp intellectual Prabhat who explains her the deep insights of life in this world. Mr. Mohanty a retiree is perplexed with the questions of religion and the meaning of life. He indulges in deep discussion with his neighbor and his daughter on the purpose of life and its implications. Sofi his daughter brings home her old friend Prabhat an intellectual and a man worn out from his daily drudgery of work who has come to visit sofi to find some freshness of life. Together they explore the deep questions facing life and death. Questions asked and answered by religion and philosophy are brought to life when they are put to test in the real life context of these people's life. Sofi is intrigued by the personality of Prabhat and falls in love with him. She finds an understanding and intellectual companion who enthralls her with the depth of his insight and perception. Prabhat is embarrassed to find the softness of emotions in his heart at a late age for Sofi and wonders if it will embarrass him in front of the world. But when the relations find that the feeling is mutual, a beautiful relation comes to take place. But Mr. Mohanty suddenly falls ill and is in his death bed. He finds the meaning of worldly life here. The story ends with engagement of Prabhat and Sofi.
