Ferd don't Stare at his Girlfriend
Do you know what it’s called when your crush actually likes you back? It’s called your imagination.
Why? Because that never happens. Ever.
And that pretty much sums up the story of my Life.
“Get out of the way nerd”, these are the words I’m greeted with before I am slammed unceremoniously into my locker ending my usual daydreams while staring at Ariadne Gotze.
“Hey Mario”, I groaned as the painful impact of the metal locker against my back begins to settle in, “I was wondering when you were going to show up”.
He didn’t seem to appreciate my sarcasm at all since his scowl only deepened.
“Stop staring at my girlfriend creep”, he warned “I won’t tell you again”.
He snarled at me a bit before he left making sure to appear intimidating.
I quickly looked away from him as he approached Ariadne and they shared a kiss in the hallways.
“Would you look at that”, a voice commented from beside me, “aren’t those two cute”.
I turned to face Nicole who was staring at the lovely couple with heart in her eyes, as if they were her all time OTP.
I couldn’t help but to scoff, “Yeah, so cute I could just puke”. Then I turned and walked away.
As soon as I turned the corner to my math class Jason was right by my side. “Did something happen sir”. He inquired.
I glared at him for calling me sir again especially while we’re at school.
“I mean Ferdin-” I cut him off again.
Sighing I only picked up my pace, “Just call me Solace at school Jason. You know this”.
“Yes sir”, he answered immediately.
This kid is hopeless.
I had to endure Jason shadowing me for most of the day. Wherever I went he was always a few feet away.
Yet whenever Mario shows up to harass me that’s when he goes on a bathroom break.
Ha! I’m beginning to think that these two might be working together.
Math came and went like usual and I know it might sound pathetic but maths class was the only fun thing that’s happened to me all day.
I usually finish my math problems quickly so I can watch the other kids squirm and groan in frustration.
It’s more fun than it sounds.
I really enjoy smirking at Mario while he’s struggling to solve the answers.
I’m making my way to the cafeteria when Victor comes up on my left. I can’t help but to roll my eyes.
Both Jason and Victor were over six feet tall and bulky. Usually Jason hangs around me for the first half of the day we have all the same classes up until lunch, that’s usually when Victor takes over we have all the same classes from lunch until dismissal.
Honestly though, I preferred having Victor hang around me since he actually talks to me.
“Hey Solace, how’s it going?“, Victor questioned.
And that’s why I prefer him more than Jason.
Fixing my rectangular black rimed glasses on my face I turned to face him, “I’m hungry, you?“.
“I’m fine, come with me I’ll get you your lunch”.
Nodding, we walked into the cafeteria. I walked toward my table it was empty as usual and I sat down and waited for Victor to return with my lunch.
The cafeteria door burst open and in walked Ariadne looking as beautiful as ever. I barely even noticed Mario who had an arm draped over her shoulders protectively.
Okay so maybe I did notice him.
Lewis, Mario’s little brother whole in after them, or as I like to call him Luigi. Our eyes met and he flipped me the bird for no apparent reason.
I scowled as he smirked and joined his brother.
I hate that kid!
Almost as much as I hate Mario. But then again I despise them for different reasons.
Victor sat down in the chair beside me as I continued to shamelessly gawk at the current love of my life.
“Hey Solace”, a voice said that definitely didn’t belong to Victor.
I turned to face the brunette beside me and my smile immediately turned into a frown.
“What do you want Nicole?“, I blurted out. One thing no one ever accused me of was being subtle.
Her eyes darted all across the room and I discreetly rolled my eyes because she was wasting my time.
“I was wondering” she finally said, “a bunch of my friends and I are hanging out at my house later tonight. Maybe you could come?“.
“I’m busy tonight”, I said immediately.
Nicole and I have never gotten along so her sudden invite to chill at her house was highly suspicious and I am not nearly a gullible as when I first came here to fall for that trick again.
“Are you sure?“, she asked again.
“I’m sure”, I answered as Victor came back with my food. Nicole got up and walked away.
“So what are we doing later”, Victor asks, handing me my tray of food.
I sighed running a hand through my dark hair, “No idea”.
**************
After lunch Victor and I were on our way to History class when Ms. Cahill spotted us.
“Solace”, she called out walking over towards me.
Both Victor and I shared a knowing look as to what would come next.
“I’m going to be a bit late for class today I was wondering if you could stop by and invigilate a pop quiz for me until I get there”, she said in one breath.
“Sure”, I replied taking the papers from her hands and she quickly scampered away not even bothering to acknowledge the fact that I had a class of my own to attend to.
You see, Ms. Cahill is a nine grade teacher and she taught me last year. No doubt I was her favorite student last year. But she was also the laziest teacher I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Sometimes I wonder how she still has a job.
Unfortunately, all the teachers here love me because I’m the biggest nerd around so it’s always hard to say no when I’m asked a favor.
“How do you always end up taking over her class every Friday?“, Victor questioned.
I rolled my eyes I wasn’t even a teacher’s assistant for God’s sake.
God bless the life of a nerd.
That’s when I remembered that Mario’s little brother was in this class and I smirked to myself as Victor and I entered the classroom.
