Chapter 1

I’m curled up in a ball in what seems to be a small cell. The damp wall is home to more mold and mildew then what should be possible. The stench is so overpowering, I can smell it even though I can’t see my hand three inches from my face.

I don’t remember how I got here, there are vague images that flash in my mind, but it’s like trying to see them through a coffee filter. The last thing I remember is going to sleep Thursday, but even that is fuzzy.

I shiver one more time before I decide that moving around and getting my blood going would be the best decision.

I only get as far as propping myself on one arm when a door opens, spilling light in the once dark room.

I screech in pain and curl up in a ball, wings wrapped around my body in a tight seal to block out all light. It was a failed attempt, but it minimized the amount of light coming in.

After a moment my eyes finally adjust and I’m able to look in the orange-tinted cocoon I made with minimal discomfort to the bright environment. Slowly I start to uncurl my wings [@mebemalal] and maneuver them so they are folded neatly across my back, Not a simple task when each wing is fifteen feet.

With all the light that that floods my senses I now can see how bad of a condition I am in. My clothes are torn to the point they barely cover me in any decent way. Through the holes in my shirt is see so much grime on me, it looks like I can blend into the floor. I wrinkle my nose at the thought.

I was going to turn over to inspect my back when someone clears their throat, and that’s when I finally look up and acknowledge the person that had opened the door.

Make that persons, because as the one person that I saw from the hall moved in, two guys in grey jumpsuits appear from the hall and walk in behind them.

While the two guards stand by the entrance, the third person stops in front of me and squats, Making their head level with mine. I have still yet to decide if they are male or not because unlike the two gorillas by the entrance, which are clean shaved and by the face and body structure, obviously men. The person in front of me is smaller in size, but it’s hard to see their face because of the cloth that conceals their face from the nose down.

They reach out and cup their hand around the bottom of my jaw, brushing against the stubble that has grown in since I have been brought here. His head is bowed a little so the bright light behind him conceals his most of his face.

He starts moving his thumb along my jawline, hand still gripping my jaw enough that it holds my head still but not enough to hurt me. I swallow, ignoring the others around me and focus my gaze on the person before me. He does nothing, just strokes my jaw, which is starting to creep me out, but I don’t say anything, in hopes he won’t decide to break anything.

Finally, he looks up. We make eye contact and my heart stops. His Violet eyes bore into me and I feel like I know him, yet I can’t put my finger on a name, or a memory. I stare back into his eyes, mesmerized by the exotic color and try to figure out who he is.

He clears his throat and speaks for the first time since entering, his voice is gruff and dominating, making me want to withdraw myself, but I hold my ground, trying to keep my face neutral.

“All of this could be over if you would just answer the questions”.

By now he is squeezing my jaw, yet it doesn’t hurt despite the pressure I feel, plus his calm tone makes the situation even more uncomfortable.

He continues looks at me, his focus unwavering and expecting an answer, but I don’t say anything, only stare back.

After a moment of the extremely uncomfortable silence, he stands back up and stares down at me, his face once again hidden by the light.

“Fine”, He states, “Have it your way” and with that, he turns on his heels and struts towards the door. Before he leaves he turns to one of the two people that accompanied him into the room.

“Give him the usual”, He turns to look at me, “And don’t go easy on him” and with that, he leaves the room.

The two people left in the room waste no time, each pulls a hand from behind their back. Their hands become alight with something that looks like fire and almost as if they are in sync, the fire-like light drifts up and forms an orb above each outstretched hand, except for the fact that one’s fire is blue and the other is red the orbs where identical.

I turn my attention from the orbs to the face of the person to the right, the blue glow splashes across his face revealing their high cheekbones. I immediately decide I don’t like the creepy grin on his face. Same goes for the baboon next to him.

I have yet to move, but I take a deep breath and tense my muscles, preparing myself for when one decides to play dodgeball, but all they do is stand there, maintaining their floating balls.

After a second of waiting I decide I’m not playing this game of cat and mouse they are setting up so before they could make the first move, I sprang up.

Once air-bone I manipulate my wings that allow me to dive right into them. I cover two-thirds of the distance before either of them reacted but before I could get farther, a blue-tinted forcefield blew up in front of me.

I slammed into the forcefield at full speed and rocketing off to the side and hitting the wall with my back. I slid down the wall and landed hard on my tailbone where I hear something pop.

I tried to get up, but my body wouldn’t respond, wouldn’t even move. I’m starting to freak out because I need my body to move if I hope to dodge the fireball.

One of the guards walks up to me and squatted down. His creepy grin has since upgraded to a wicked smile, but in my opinion, it’s not an improvement.

“I’m going to enjoy this”, Are the only words he says then he plunges the ball hovering in his hand into my chest.

The scenery changes and I find myself panting as I look around the room I’m in, my room, In my house. I let out a sigh with relief as I lie back on the pillow. My heart is racing and sweat rolls down my face, but I’m relieved that it’s only a dream.

Once I catch my breath I feel tense, something seems off. I sense something shift and my heart drops when I realize it, I’m not alone. I shift my head around the room and that’s when I see someone in the corner holding a butcher knife.
