Chapter 1 - Sara
I was always fascinated by books. Nerd, bookworm, introvert, unwanted beast etc. is what people call me in college, But I never payed attention to that. I am determined to be an author one day, but with this terrible life, I do doubt sometimes. My mother died when I was 3 years old and even my father passed away few years back leaving me here with my step mother and sister. I never envied my sister for getting everything in life, she was very happening girl. Being college’s queen bee, every boy was her fan, but she was only crazy about his boyfriend, Rihaan Sehgal, college’s popular boy. He is the heart of every girl, though he only gives attention to his guitar. One can always find him with a book in library, the place who everyone calls house of nerds, but he never minds such talks. He was a type of boy who gets what he wants, getting a ‘NO’ is never in his option.
While I come to me, I don’t belong to these groups, I never will, and I never want to. I don’t have any friends in college except one, Rhea Sehgal. Yes, Sehgal, she is the sister of you know who. One would think why is the sister of popular boy my friend? I think so too sometime. But she is not like them, she is like me, so she understands me very well. She is the only one who stands beside me in every situation, even if it’s against his brother.
So here I am in front of my college gate, ready to have one more bad day, hopefully I won’t get bullied today. I entered the college and saw my sister talking to her group of friends, they are more her followers than friends, ‘popular girl’. I went near them as they were standing beside my locker. As soon as Nia see me coming, she disappeared away from me, followed by her friends. I sighed and ignored her. As I turned towards my locker I felt a hand wrapped around my waist,
“Hey, whose… woah Rhea you scared me for a second, never do that again”
“Hey Sara, who else do you think would be. Were you expecting someone else, ha who is he. Tell me, you can’t hide from me..common I am your best friend..”
“Hold on, hold on there’s no one, stop imagining anything”
“What Sara why are so boring, you are good looking girl, just hook up with someone.”
“How long have you known me Ri.?...you know I don’t do hook up, I am in search of love, who will only be my Prince Charming.”
“Oh, common Sara, that so cheesy, we’re living in 21st century for god’s sake!”
“Then let it be cheesy, I don’t care” – I replied.
Though people call her nerd, she likes going to parties, and everything that a non-nerd person likes, at last she was a Sehgal, had it in their blood. Sometimes I think people calls her nerd just because she is my friend. Anyway, she doesn’t care what people think about her, again she is Sehgal.
“Your sister is an evil, sorry I rephrase it your step sister...why can’t she treat you like a person at least?...you should tell everyone she is your sister..”
I stopped her by quickly refusing. “No. she doesn’t want anyone to know. Anyway, my sister is going to be your sister-in-law someday!”. I teased her, knowing she easily gets frustrated by that thought.
“Over my dead body! I know my brother, she is just a fling for him to maintain his popular reputation, he is not at all like everyone thinks he is. He won’t go for such girls, and you know who he can go for..”
I shrugged, knowing where she is taking this. But what she thinks is never going to happen. I mean it’s not that I hate him, he is good guy, but me and him are totally opposite. Beside from what she says, he will never go for someone like me.
“He will go for YOU”— she said popping the ‘you’ in her sentence.
“Whatever Ri, I am going to library, I have a free period.”
“See, things you have in common...both of you like this boring library.”
“Forget it Rhea, see you later”
I started walking towards library, not giving her chance to say anything. She can be impossible sometimes, whenever she decides or want something, she will stick up to her words until you gave in, again Sehgal. She resembles his brother in every possible way.
As I reached library, I went to shelf for the book I am currently reading, “The Perfect Us” - a common love story that is find in every books these days, ‘There was a girl, There was a boy, total opposites and never on the same page, but god had different plans for them, they were destined to be together...how they fight with themselves and even with each other, just not ready to accept their fate, but finally gives in and falls in love and realize how perfect they are together...and bingo! .. happy ending!’.
Same old, same old. Every love story has the same thing. Though people like me keeps reading it, as these books are the only one giving us hope to find true love. But there comes a point when even these books seem fake. If only people knew that these things only happens in books.
Our heart is just like a small child, sometimes it fails to differentiate between reality and fictions. As we see and read such movies and books, and how life of characters is shown in them, it starts aspiring to have such life and love, it sets its standard so high that it practically may not be the same in real life. It sometimes makes us greedy, wanting more of everything, and not acknowledging what we already have. But what we forget is that we can’t have everything in life, no matter how much we try, and we’ll always find something that we don’t have. It makes us look at everything as ‘possessions we need to achieve’ whether its emotions or someone’s feeling.
From there came a thought in my mind, I took my notepad from my bag, started writing a letter.

These books have always told me, pairs are made in heaven. There is always someone in this world which is only made for you. If this is true then where is he? Why God didn’t make someone for me?
Who will hold my hand and walk beside me forever, who, when looks into my eyes, it seems like everything is going to be okay. One who completes me, one whose arms feels like the safest place. Who will love me no matter what and accepts me as Who I am.
But We always forget that this can only happen in novels, truth is far different than this. I read these books and start dreaming, but I forget I don’t even have right to dream, completing it is even distant from reality.

I then placed the letter in book and kept it in the shelf. It feels good to let it all out, things that had been on my mind since so long. If only I knew, that letter was going to change everything in my life, for better or for worse.
