Chapter 1:- First day

Emily woke up at the sound of her alarm clock ringing. Annoyingly, she turned it off and got up from her bed. She opened the window and let the sunlight in her room. Her black and red hair, flew as the wind kisses her face. Her golden eyes brighten as she stared at the road. “First day of new high school. Hope something interesting happens.” Emily said to herself. She wore a black top and ripped blue jeans. She combed her down and wore some lip balm and went downstairs, to meet her dad, Cory, cooking breakfast. And her older twin brother Toru eating pancakes.

“Morning honey, did you sleep well?” Cory asked, putting her pancakes on the plate. He’s a very kind man.

“Morning daddy. And yes I did. Can’t wait for my new day of school in New York!” She says. After Emily’s mom, Emma died, Cory, Toru and her immediately moved from Malibu to New York. They always had her picture on their table with pretty white lily flowers around it.

“Good morning, mom.” Emily says to the picture. “I’m 16 and I’m going to the same high school as you did. The Lilly Flower High. Wish me luck, mom.” She sat down on her chair and greeted her brother as well.

“Morning, shrimp.” He says, teasingly.

“I’M NOT A SHRIMP!” She shouted at him. Toru can be so teasing when it comes to his little sister. He can make her laugh and angry at the same time. Toru has a black hair like his dad and gold eyes like his mom. They started arguing.

“Now, now kids. You better hurry up and eat your breakfast or you’ll be late to school.” Cory said.

“Yes, Dad.” They both said.

“After all, we both got to the same school.” Toru said. Emily nodded in agreement.

Emily and Toru finished their breakfast and started heading to school. Emily can’t ride a bike so, Toru gives her a ride from now on. They reached to school before the bell rang.

“Are you going to the assembly, Toru?” Emily asked.

“Of course. If I don’t go then I won’t know where my class is.” Toru said, sarcastically. They made it to the assembly. But Toru fell asleep while the principle was talking.

After the assembly, all the students went back to their class. Emily, who was sitting near the window was lost in daze when a girl approached her and snapped her back to reality.

“Hi.” She called. Emily got startled by her sudden appearance. “Are you new here?”

“Uh, yeah. I moved to here from Malibu 3 days ago.”

“Is that so? My name is Katherine Donald. You can call me Kat.” All of a sudden, she held her hand. “We’re gonna be best friends, kay?”

“Yeah. My name is Emily Bloom. You can call me Em.” And they giggled at each other.

“Or you can call her ‘Shrimp’.” A sudden voice said out loud. Everyone turned to where that voice came from. Toru was standing beside the classroom door. A vain popped on Emily head.

“Tooorruuu!!!” Emily said in an angry voice. “What are you doing here?”

“Principle is calling for us. Come on.” He said. She signed and stood up from her chair.

“Who is he?” Katherine whispered.

“My annoying twin brother.” Emily whispered back. “I’ll be right back.” Before leaving the class room she hit Toru’s head, hard.

“What was that for, sis?!” Toru cried, patting the spot where she hit him.

“FOR CALLING ME A SHRIMP, YOU KNUCKELED HEAD!” Emily yelled. Pouting, Toru followed. The most surprising thing for Emily was that she noticed how popular her brother is.

“How come a bird brain like you became so popular?” Emily asked, raising an eyebrow while reaching to the principal’s office.

“And how come a shrimp like you became so popular?” Toru stabbed back. Emily stick her tongue out to him and he did the same thing as they went inside.

“Excuse us.” He said, as he went inside.

“Well good morning and welcome to Lilly Flower High. My name is Christine Western and I’m the principal of this school. I’m very pleased to see you Mr. Toru Bloom and Ms. Emily Bloom.” The principal said. And he turned to a man wearing a white shirt and black jeans. “And this is my assistance, Julian Dexter.” He bowed to them saying ‘hello’.

“The feelings mutual Principal Western but may I ask why my sister and I are here?” Toru politely asked.

“Yeah. Is there any problem?” Emily asked, feeling uneasy. Toru held her hand to calm her.

“No, no problem at all. I believe your father haven’t told you about this yet?” He asked.

“Told us what?” Toru asked. Christine sighed.

“I thought so. That’s why, I called him here.” All of a sudden, someone came inside the room. Cory stood in front of the door as his two children stared at him.

“Dad?!” Both of them nearly yelled.

“Hey?” Cory nervously said.

“What is going on?” Emily asked.

“Please have a seat you two your father and I will begin explaining.” Quietly, they sat on a sofa with a lot of tension. Emily and Toru are still confused by the sudden meeting.

“How should I begin?” says Mr. Western. “Well, you both know that your mother, Emma Bloom went to this school, right?”

“Yeah, we did.” Emily said. “She was a top student among all the others. And she was also great Student Council president.”

“Yes but not only was she all of that. She was a protector of this school.”

“A protector?” Toru asks, confused.

“An exorcist.” Emily and Toru couldn’t believe what they were hearing. Their late mother who was a top and delicate student was actually an exorcist.

“What kind of a joke is this?!” Toru angrily yelled.

“Toru. Calm down.” Cory said.

“How can I calm down when I hear this nonsense about our late mother?!”

“It’s not nonsense. Christine is telling the truth. Your mother was an exorcist. And so was I.”

“Dad, how can we believe that you both were exorcists? There’s no proof of it.” Emily says.

“There is.” Cory says. “Ever since you both were small kids, haven’t you both been seeing somethings that nobody hasn’t seen in this world?” Emily and Toru hesitated before looking at each other.

“W-We saw l-lots of g-g-ghosts ever since w-we were k-kids.” Emily says, hesitantly.

“How long have you know about this, Dad?” Toru asked.

“Long as I can remember. And none of you even told me about this.”

“There’s your proof. Will you listen what we have to say now?” Asked Mr. Western. No words came out of their mouths so they just nodded.

“Good.” He says. “As you can see, when your mother was still in this school, she always protected this school when nobody couldn’t. This school is filled with spirits and un-natural spirits. Even demons lure around here tries to take over some of our students. Lucky for us, we have some exorcist in this school who would take care of that. But their strengths were not enough. Only a Bloom can have the power to extinguish these monsters.”

“So, you’re asking us to protect this school in the place of our mother.” Emily says.

“That’s right. For that you need to be President and Vice president of the Student Council.” Mr. Western says. “And it seems that it won’t be that hard since you both are already popular.”

“Well...” Emily spoke. “...we can do that but we know nothing about being an exorcists. All we know is that we can see these spirits.”

“Don’t worry about that, sweetie.” Cory said. “Julian and I will help you with that. Your Dad here was also an exorcist, remember?”

“Then it’s settled. I trust that you two will protect this school.” Says Mr. Western.

“I look forward to work with you two.” Julian says, smiling. They smiled back, thanking him.

‘This is not the “I hope something interesting happens” that I expected.’ Emily thought, sarcastically.
