Part 1: New Adventures Await
I looked at the schedule again and couldn’t believe my eyes. Hadn’t I worked enough I thought to myself. I had to travel and live in another country for a whole year, promoting a deal that will launch a new age of music.
I looked at Simon Cowell and asked him, “Why me?”
“Because you are the best musician for the job.” Sighing I finally agree, and walk out of the huge office and towards the elevator. I push the button and frown, ‘I can’t believe this’.
I sat on the plane next to my manager while I read my schedule again and again. “It will be a new experience, new music. Also a new adventure.”
I look at her and say “I’ve been doing the same thing since I was 18, what new adventure can come from being a musician with other musicians?” My snarky comment puts her off. She clicks her tongue and pulls on her headphones, but not before muttering ‘Wait and see.’
I roll my eyes and do the same. The last three month play back in my mind, three month of a new language and a new way of thinking. Three months not knowing who I am meeting or even a hint of the kind of music I will make.
As the flight begins to descend I listen to the flight attendant tell everyone they should prepare for landing. My manager hands me a card and I take it. Looking down at it I laugh as it reads ‘New adventures await you.’
After immigration formalities are done I walk out and we are greeted by a very enthusiastic man. He leads us to a car and tells me about everything around us, my manager smiles happily and asks questions while I just stare out the window.
What is waiting for you in this new country?
