Chapter 1 – Welcome to Water Canyon High School

The sound of my favorite song, I’m Yours by Jason Mraz, brought me out of my slumber. As I stretched my arms out to the sides, my bedroom door swept open and my mothers’ pleasant face peeped in.

“Rise and shine, my little ray of sunshine,” she beamed.

“Good morning, mother,” I replied. She stood at the frame of my door for a second longer before closing it again.

Today is a new day. A good day, in fact. I have always loved Mondays. A fresh start to the week, as I like to think.

My phone buzzed on my bedside table just in time for me to be getting out of bed.

I peered over to where it rested near my alarm clock. A text from Alli, my best friend!

Ally – Morning A! Remember to get to the school 15 minutes early today; we have some new students to welcome!

Me – Of course! How could I forget? I’ll be there!

I sat my phone gently back onto the table and walked over to my dresser to find my uniform neatly folded on the top. It was quite an ugly uniform. It was purple and yellow plaid with a golden patch on the top right breast of the blazer.

With my dark red hair straightened and makeup applied, I grabbed my backpack and walked downstairs to get my breakfast.

This morning it’s waffles and eggs, like every other Monday morning. Each day of the week is specified for certain meals. We always have the same meals on the same day of the week, every week. It’s all very plain. That’s what my family is. Plain. Honestly… it’s boring.

Don’t get me wrong! I love my family, but they are always so worried about how others view them instead of worrying about what’s best for the family. I’ve just learned to live with it because frankly, I have no choice.

After breakfast, I powered on my little Mini Cooper and drove my way to school.

Of course Ally was the first person to be anxiously waiting for me at the top of our school’s steps.

As soon as she spotted my car she immediately started walking towards me. There was this look in her eye. It was hard to identify what exactly it was, fear, sadness, happiness?

“Hey babe,” I heard another voice speak from outside my car. Just as I heard it a familiar male leaned on the window of my car and brought a smile to my face.

I gave him a small peck on the lips before gathering my bag and getting out of my car. As soon as I did, he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and gave me another kiss.

“So, what’re you up to tomorrow night?” he asked as he nodded towards some friends of his.

“I’ll have to check my calendar… I’m free.” He pressed his back on my car and leaned on it.

“Cool, I’m going to pick you up at 6:00 for dinner and a movie.”

“Sounds good,” I smiled again. Just as out conversation ended, Ally reached me and grabbed me by the forearm and whispered into my ear.

“Alex, I need to talk to you,” she obviously forced out while clenching her jaw, “In private.” I nodded in response. She rarely ever calls me by my real name. There was something obviously wrong with her.

“I’ll talk to you later, baby,” I gave my boyfriend one last kiss before walking away with Ally.

“Hello, Tyson,” Ally shot back to him as we were walking away. Her hand was clenching my bicep and was beginning to throb under the intense pressure.

I swat her hand away as soon as we stopped.

“Ow!” I screeched at her.

“I’m sorry!” Ally realized she was hurting me and released her grip immediately. I placed my hands on either sides of her to try and calm her down. She was on the brink of crying.

“What’s the matter?” I asked concerned. As soon as I finished my sentence she sprung onto me into a hug.

“He cheated on me!” she gets through in between cries.

“Jared?” I asked in awe. Her boyfriend, Jared, was one of the nicest guys to ever exist! There’s no way.

“Yes! With Catherine!” Ally yelled. She pulled away from me and wiped her tears from her eyes. “That whore! I knew she was trying to get my man from day one.”

“You know what?” I asked trying to comfort Ally. She looked at me waiting for me to continue. “We should show him whose boss. He can’t just walk on you like you’re his temporary toy. Because you deserve better than that.”

“You’d do that for me?” Ally peered through her messy brown hair.

“Yes! That’s what best friends are for. And I have an idea. We’ll do it at lunch. Now clean yourself up and lets go.”

We quickly walked to the bathroom where I helped her look less like I-just-cried-my-heart-out and more school-girl-sexy.

“Much better,” I smiled sweetly at her and gave her a kiss on the forehead. Ally’s phone began ringing. We both snapped our heads at the spot it was resting in on the bathroom counter top and saw the one person’s name we didn’t want to see. We both lunged for the phone; thankfully I got to it before her and declined the call.

“Alex!” Ally whined.

“You were just crying over him, you do not need to talk to him right now,” the time that the phone projected caught my eye, “Plus we have students to welcome.”

I hooked my arm around hers and dragged Ally out of the bathroom as she stomped behind me.

We made our way to principal’s office to get the information we needed to greet the new students.

Ally and I are the President and Vice President of our school. In fact, we are the first female presidents. With it comes the responsibility of welcoming every single new student that walks into our school.

“Good morning ladies,” our sweet principal greeted. She was a petite woman with short blond hair and bright blue eyes. You could tell she used to be stunning.

“Morning, Mrs. Johnson,” Ally and I greeted in unison. We shared a glance with each other and grinned.

“Here is the file for the five new students we are getting today,” Mrs. Johnson handed me a manila folder with quite a few files in it. She glanced at her watch before saying, “The students should be getting here in about ten minutes and they’ll meet you at the steps at the front of the school.”

Ally and I nodded understandingly and left. As we walked to the front of the school, we searched through the folder. The five new kids consisted of three boys and two girls all from the same family. The two girls are apparently twins in 9th grade. With this year being my last year at this school, I want to make it the most memorable year. Which includes making the freshman feel extra welcome!

Before we got to look at the rest of the folder an odd group approaches us. The group was made up of two girls and four boys.

Each of them looked as if they belonged to a model agency, not a small town like this.

I could easily tell the two girls were twins. They looked exactly alike. Each one had long raven black hair that was curled in a half up half down style. One of them had a pair of cute black, thin-rimmed glasses on. Even though these girls were only freshman, the guys at this school were going to be all over them.

I then scanned the four insanely gorgeous boys walking towards Ally and I. All of them looked the same but so different at the same time. Each one was about 6’3” with black hair, like the girls, and extremely fit bodies. It would be an understatement to say they just worked out. One of them had a buzz cut which only he could pull off. Without his hair in the way it allowed the sun to accent his high cheekbones, caramel skin, and riveting black eyes.

The next boy had shaved sides and a gelled back top. Equally hot as the last one. His skin the palest of the boys but his dark hair accented it so well. Instead of his eyes being black they were a dark blue. They looked like an ocean that I wanted to swim in.

The last boy in the family had the longest hair, yet it was still short. In a way it was shaggy but still contained and his skin color was in between the other boys skin. He ran his hand through his soft looking hair and his bright green eyes met mine. I quickly averted my eyes away; he obviously knew I was staring because a sexy grin took place on his face.

“Jared who?” Ally whispered as she walked over the family and greeted them with a drop dead gorgeous smile.

With her comment, a small smile formed on my face as I followed her lead.

“Hello everyone,” I began putting a genuine smile on my face, “My name is Alex. Welcome to Water Canyon High School. I am the school’s president and am happy to be the one to guide you through your first day.”

The two girls started running in place with excitement and muttering to each other.

“My name is Ally, I am the Vice President of the school and am just as anxious to welcome you.” Out of the corner of my eye I saw her eyes glued to the boy with the palest of skin. He clearly recognized her staring because a dashing smile washed over his face.

“So, where is your family from?” I asked, trying to start conversation.

“We just moved from Wisconsin,” The boy with the buzz cut answered.

Each of the family members shared a similar look with each other.

“Do you think we could step inside? My eyes kind of hurt from the sun,” the green-eyed-beauty asked politely.

“Oh my goodness! Of course! Follow us!” I exclaimed and lead the family inside the school. I began looking through the files to find out their names while Ally continued to make flirtatious glances at the boy.

“So which one of you girls is Bailey and which one is Bria?” I asked the twins.

The one with glasses raised her hand and said, “I’m Bria. And that’s Bailey.” I nodded my head and moved on to the boys’ names.

“It says here that your names are Spencer, Noah, and Mason. Who is who?”

The green-eyed-beauty spoke up, “I’m Spencer.”

The one who was flirting with Ally snapped out of his trance and said, “I’m Noah.”

“And I’m Mason,” said the caramel-skinned model.

“Nice to meet you all!” Ally didn’t say anything so I had to nudge her in the shoulder, which caused her and Noah to stop flirting with each other.

“Oh! Yes! Nice to meet you,” she added as her cheeks started turning pink. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who noticed because the whole family started snickering and shoving Noah around making his face turn pink too.

“Ok let’s start with the tour. I think it would be best if we split up,” I suggested and Ally nodded in agreement.

“I can take the girls and Noah,” she said and walked away with them following. I gave her a wink before turning back to Mason and Spencer.

“Looks like it’s going to be us three today,” I smiled politely at the two hotties standing in front of me. They returned the smile but in a way sexier manner. Not a problem with me, I thought, Stop it! You have a boyfriend stupid.

“So are you guys seniors?” I asked as I started walking in the opposite direction of Ally.

“Yup,” they both answered. This is going to be one hell of a year.
