Prologue: My Darling Sister

Prologue

My darling sister, you shall make an honest woman out of me

As we share our hopes and dreams, we look for salvation in one another over greed

As we watch the sunset, the darkness invades

Our light fades as the moon plays with the sun astray

You don’t say much, but I see it in your eyes when fear strikes the night

Your eyes reveal more than the contortions you wear as obscurity turns to grey

Your grief was once your exhilaration

Before the complications matured to create a wound

Twins but as powerful as if they were their own

Acknowledging they were there alone without supervision presents a dangerous blow to my heart; I fear my neglect could cause the utmost grief. As I sway over to the window, I witness a scene; my soul celebrates the children playing with an innocence no one could break.

I watch as they chased each other as Annabelle falls. Evangeline runs to her younger sister's rescue as she sees her bleeding; her anger spikes. Recognising her dear sister’s pain, Evangeline becomes enraged. powerless against the tremors, she alights the crumpled wing

Leaning in, she heals the broken skin. Annabelle is too young to acquire her powers, but it's only a matter of time until they rain havoc on the world.

I watch as they wipe each other’s tears continuing to play on the swings as Evangeline pushes Annabelle back and forth. Tears fall as I think of the future, seeing my girls grow up and one becoming Queen. My future is not written in stone though I do wish to witness such moments of significance. I fear for their life when I think back to how this all began.
