Chapter 1
In the void he’s searching,
In an island of his soul he’s stranded, and even though he wobbles in it every day, his steps are still doubtful, shaky and indecisive. “In the void,” he tells me, “is a piece of myself that I’ve lost.”. He’ll keep searching until he finds it, or so he says.
It’s a dark pit, where the light is never found. Some even say that the monsters dwelling over there, feed on the last strings escaping the endless grey skies. Those creatures are heartless and mindless, made of people’s worst nightmares, and take their time torturing their preys before swallowing them. He’s not scared of them though, they don’t frighten him anymore, it’s the ones that live on the surface, that keeps him shaking at night.
Sometimes, another human would appear, just a mess of limbs, crawling with a naked figure, an eye for a mouth, a hole for a nose, a couple of blades stuck in the place of their eyes, holding their heads in one arm, and their heart in the other. It’s a sight we got used to seeing down here.
“How did you get here?” I would ask yet again. Every time I got the same answer, “I can’t remember. I don’t have to. All I seek is found once I get to the edge.” He’s so sure of himself, yet uncertain at the same time. I got used to these types of answers from him. There are days where he doesn’t remember himself, he would wake up, and question his own existence, those days It gets hard for me to stay awake. I fear for him awfully, that the idea of closing an eye on him shakes me. I’m all he has now, I’m the only piece of sanity he’s got.
After all, I am his consciousness. Without me he would lose the last piece of his soul.
