Prologue

Harlem was a very abnormal kid in his perfectly normal village. Harlem was 17 and the son of the village leader. He was quite social and athletic. He had green eyes and brown hair that seemed to change to blond in the light. However, the only person who knew what Harlem was, was his girlfriend Anna and his twin brother John.

What Harlem could do was so frightening to not only his brother and girlfriend but also to himself.

Harlem was the only known living wizard or witch alive. He had had no training and had only trusted this secret with his closest friends, as the king of Blackstone had ordered the execution of anyone with any magical ability, Harlem’s mother was one of the few with any magical ability, but Harlem had never met his mother as she had left when him and his brother were just a month old.

His father also had no idea that his wife had been a witch and Harlem had always assumed that his father assumed she was dead.

Harlem’s father, Everard had never spoken about his mother and everytime that Harlem or his brother asked about their mother, Everard would leave the room on an excuse to fill the water trough for the horses or something else that Everard’s servants did.

Finally Harlem and his brother, John stopped asking their father about their mother and instead took to asking around the village.

However Everard had made sure that Harlem and John would never find answers to their questions and the two brothers hated their father for that, but they had no idea how much it hurt their father to keep the secret of their mother from them. A secret that Everard and the rest of the adults in the village knew that they had to take to their graves.
