Act 1 [5:09 PM]

"...Wake from your naive trance, like a fawn in headlights. Drawing a breath for the last time, only now realizing you were never living until a car knocked blood and sense from your body, yadda yadda some other fake deep lines?" I leaned back in my desk chair sighing, holding the headphone mic away for a brief moment and rubbing my eyes.

Bringing it back to my lips I continued reluctantly "Listen, dawn I love you, I really do but I just cant...read this stuff without my brain going blank." "That is the very reason I send these poems to you!" Dawn's voice beamed, I could practically picture the wide grin on her face. "Not following at all D"

A faint snicker echoed through my speakers "I want all of my writing to be extravagantly annoying and cryptic to confuse him!" cryptic, I thought, I glanced out of my window searching for the moon but it was nowhere to be seen as usual.

I had set up telescopes and cameras and live video feeds but somehow I always seemed to miss it. My storage was being stuffed with deer stalking across my backyard and trees swaying silently in the dark. I was a patient person but it has been this way for months, it was starting to eat at me.

Something, I thought, give me something.

"Nixon?" Halting my glare at the window I turned to look at my computer screen again. "Ah, sorry, I got distracted." Scratching my neck I murmured a reply. "Have you been staying up for days again? It isn't good for your health you know!" Dawn sulked "Nope! I haven't" I totally have been.

"You better not be!" She attempted to make her voice stern but it was common knowledge that dawn couldn't hurt a fly if she tried "Ok mom" I chuckled

"Anyways I'm sending it to him, do you think this will stump him?" "I don't know but...why do you and ace go back and forth like that? With all the poems and...novels?" "Oh don't act like it doesn't entertain you" Dawn giggled.

I couldn't lie, it was pretty entertaining they'd spam whole forums without even trying. Trying to understand their conversations could be a new form of torture, well for anyone who wasn't me anyways. I was the only one that could recognize their long-winded essays were horse shit masquerading as golden intellect.

"Pft It does, but do you two never get bored of it? I mean jeez you guys spend actual hours...sometimes weeks preparing to prank one another with Shakespearean drivel." Dawn fell quiet for a second, the sound of her bed creaking under her weight rang out.

"May I ask you a question?" "shoot" "Would you rather walk to McDonald's, buy a cheap burger from the dollar menu and eat it..." I raised an eyebrow, unsure of where this was going. "Or have the thrill of raising. Nurturing. Growing old with, and eventually slaughtering a cow with your bare hands to make a fresh burger?" "wow, you sound morbid." I said scrunching my face

"Haha if that's what you insist I am then I suppose it is true, But I've got to say! The rush of it all, a grand scheme of tricks and tomfoolery... it is far too rewarding not to do!" Dawn insisted. "When you put it that way I sort of get it, but to me, writing poetry still sounds like an assload just to get a quick laugh."

"I can assure you it is more than AN assload, it is two assloads, maybe even three! The more ass the merrier!" "Id gladly cosign on that if we were talking about real ass and not figurative ass" Dawn let out a soft 'Hmph!' "I find it cowardly that you don't appreciate all ass, whether real or hypothetical" "Well I find it cowardly that you write entire novels to attack ace instead of duking it out with him!" I chortled smirking.

"Touche," she replied in defeat "Ah but fighting with mortal flesh can only bring you so far...The satisfaction of stumping one's brain is enough to make the comatose weep!"

My eyebrows knitted in the center of my forehead, attempting to process that statement. "I swear your like, possessed by some British school girl from the 1600s, there is no way you talk like this all the time."

dawn sighed into her mic “We have been over this Nixon, this is just how I am, it has been nearly twelve months and-" "Just say year" I cut her off chuckling "And I know its just...so strange sometimes. Not in a bad way of course!" "Uh huh." "I've simply met people who don't even use vowels when texting so talking to you is a large change of pace."

"Peculiar...how would you even read what they are attempting to say?" she questioned. "Honestly? I don't, I just hit the like button and keep it moving... Sometimes masses of text are just a mood that you aren't supposed to understand." "eh," dawn sucked her teeth "I don't like not understanding things, I'd rather know what the mood is outright!"

A blinking globe icon bobbed up and down in the bottom corner of my screen. A message? I haven't been posting in the forums this past week though. Clicking the notif his username spread across my window in bold lettering.

"Uhoh" I whispered. "Oh, joy! Is it a message from Ace?" Notification after notification bounced from his chat box seemingly with no end "Yep, and from the all the text I'm getting it looks like your recent poem is driving him nuts"

"1 point for dawn!" she sang "congrats literary princess, I'm gonna answer him, can I call you back later?" "go ahead! I will be revising my work if you need me." dawn responded calmly but I could tell the second hung up she'd be dancing around her room in victory. "Yeah yeah, have fun! Gonna calm down the little gremlin now."

Hitting end on our Skype call my cheeks flushed as I began to read his text but I paused feeling the hairs on my neck stand up. Turning toward the window multiple glowing eyes peeked back at me, stagnant. Its just some deer, I frowned getting up to close my blinds.

Pausing at the sill I squinted at their faces. Their eyes shouldn't be doing that if there is no light reflecting off of their corneas...My computer pinged again and I sighed. I'm probably just tired I thought, returning back to my desk chair.
