A loud beeping sound wakes the girl from her sleep. A hand extends out from under the the warm blankets to switch the annoying alarm off. She flings the blanket off her body and gets ready for school.
She changes into her black and white uniform consisting of a white blouse and a short black pleated skirt. She tip toes around the messy apartment to not wake her sleeping parents on the couch. Worn out black leather shoes slip onto her feet and she rushes out the door before her parents wake up.
A bus arrives at the stop in front of her apartment complex. Once on the bus sitting at the back, the girl pulls out her black earphones and pops each one in her ear. As the music softly plays, she zones out while staring out the window at the pretty scenery.
She follows the crowd of loud students into the school building. While most students linger in the bright hallways, the girl makes her way to her homeroom before anyone else. She enjoys the emptiness by herself at her own little, square desk against the brick wall.
But it doesn’t last very long when the bell rings from outside and the classroom fills with her noisy classmates. The teacher, Mr Won, enters after all other students have settled down.
“Good morning students. Today we’ll be starting with your new assessments,” Mr Won announces.
The class groans in sync as he pulls out a piece of paper from his neat folder. He begins reading out names and assigning everyone new partners.
The loud chatter from other students snaps the girl back into reality after zoning out, once again. Everyone moves around the classroom finding their new partners.
"Nayeon?”
She turns around to face a boy with black hair and sparkly round doe eyes. Jeon Jungkook smiles at her, making his cute dimples show. The girl pulls her lips into a straight smile which disappears quickly. It was the best she could do.
Mr Won tells everyone to sit again. Jungkook takes the desk in front of Nayeon as she stays seated in her usual seat. Mr Won walks around to each new pair handing out instructions for their new project.
Assessment Task
You and your assigned partner must create a video. It can be of whatever you desire.
An idea could be to delve into each others lives and pasts. Options are endless!
You are given approximately five (5) months to complete the set task.
Your video must:
- include at least one person from your pair
- be at least 3 to 5 minutes long
- have some type of audio (music, talking)
As everyone begins to come up with ideas for their videos, Jungkook and Nayeon continue to sit in silence. She draws random doodles in the margin on her page while he twiddles his thumbs around each other.
“So,” Jungkook speaks. “Do you have any ideas?”
Nayeon only shrugs her shoulders and shakes her head.
Jungkook turns around and rips a page from his notebook. After scribbling some words onto the lined paper, he passes it to the quiet girl behind him.
“What’s this?” She asks.
“My number,” Jungkook answers. “We’ll have to work on this outside of school too. So text me whenever you want to meet up.”
The bell suddenly rings signalling the end of class. That went by quickly. Jungkook stands and walks away to grab some food. Nayeon stays seated in her spot, looking down at the paper that holds the boy’s number.
“Who knew it would be this easy to get a guy’s number,” she thinks to herself.

Nayeon arrives back at her apartment. Her metal keys clink against each other as she takes them out to unlock the door. Making it to the rusty kitchen, she sees her mother sitting at the messy counter with a glass of red wine standing in front of her.
She stops seeing her figure sitting there before slowly walking over, stopping in the living room behind her mother.
“Mum?” Nayeon speaks up with a shaky voice. “What are you doing home so early?”
She smiles at her daughter, anger showing through her dark eyes.
“I got fired.”
