"You sense that?" He muttered, as he turned towards Gethsemane.  "It's faint. And new. I've never sensed this kind before," Gethsemane said quietly, her and Legion exchanging quick nervous looks, as they turned their attention to their surroundings.  A growl, loud, and aggressive, was heard from somewhere nearby. Legion and Gethsemane quickly turned their heads in the direction. A few blocks down, a shrieking scream, a rather unforgettable one, came from around the same place. Chapter One | Arosaria

She grabbed the sword and quickly flung it straight at the Devoratrix. The black figure howled viciously and wasn't able to dodge the blade in time. Her raven flew in from the window, the small familiar quickly turned human before drawing a weapon of its own. Gethsemane stood up and brushed her dark brunette hair from her face. “Legion!” She yelled, grabbing the sword she just threw towards the Devoratrix. Gethsemane turned towards Legion, and slowly watched as the Devoratrix ran at him. The black figure moved quickly, but Legion quicker, as he spun around and raised his sword. The creature ran right into it, piercing itself in the heart. Legion turned towards Gethsemane with a small smile of accomplishment, before pushing the now dying Devoratrix to the ground. The black figure bled a weird dark-ish purple. A faint orange and blue were visible in it, telling Gethsemane and Legion the Devoratrix was newly turned.

“Damnit,” Legion muttered, as he struck the Devoratrix in the head, killing it. “I told you I sensed one near.”

“Legion, we couldn't have done anything anyway. It had probably already eaten an Angel when we did sense it. There's the twelve-hour turning point, remember?” Gethsemane replied, a sigh escaping her lips. It took her a moment to catch her breathe, as she walked and stood over the corpse. “Poor fallen one,” she muttered.

Legion scoffed. “Poor? No, the fallen one chose this path, G.”

“Yeah, but still. They didn't know any better, normally one teaches them to go down this path.” Gethsemane rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.

Legion's weapon de-materialized itself, as Legion turned back into a raven. He flew onto Gethsemane's shoulder and sat there silently.

“Time to clean up?" Legion whispered as he sat on her shoulder in the form of a small bird still.

Gethsemane sighed and nodded her head. She grabbed the legs of the Devoratrix before dragging it towards the door.

A small while later, the pair sat in Mr. Daemon's office in silence, the three sat near each other, Gethsemane and Legion having a silent conversation in their minds. Telepathy was something anyone could do but only with they're familiar. It was a gift for when they were bored, or couldn't talk out loud. Mr. Daemon caught on and cleared his breath quite loudly. Legion rolled his eyes, and crossed his arms with a loud sigh before sliding back in his seat. Within an instant, he was a raven again and sat on Gethsemane's shoulder.

"I see you two have taken out yet another Devoratrix," Mr. Daemon spoke louder than he intended, he slouched back in his black computer chair, as he held a glass of wine in his hand. The dark liquid swished around as he moved. The man's dead-like yellow eyes stared at the two viciously. "What a shame, really. I was hoping Atlas and Blaze would have been the ones to get rid of the damned thing,” he shrugged, letting out a small chuckle before he grinned and sat forward again. This put Gethsemane on edge, and her eyebrows furrowed at the man. “You see, you two just aren’t my, what do I call it? Most enjoyed pair.”

Gethsemane rolled her eyes, and scoffed.”Well, that’s not surprising coming from you, Mr. Daemon.” She huffed and pushed Legion off her shoulder. He flew back to his seat and turned into his human form once more. Legion gave Gethsemane a rather annoyed look, before resting his head on his hand and turning his attention back towards the rude old man who sat in front of him.

“And what’s that supposed to mean, Ms. Kalidia?” Mr. Daemon tilted his head and raised an eyebrow. He set his glass of wine down on the table and sat up more in his seat. As if preparing for something bad to happen.

Gethsemane rolled her eyes, “Nothing, Mr. Daemon. You’re just..” She leaned forward as well, her eyes meeting his. “You.”

“Get out.” Mr. Daemon raised his voice. Gethsemane didn’t flinch at this, instead, she simply stood up, held her arm out for Legion to grab, and the pair walked out of the office with a smile. “And don’t come back! You’re both fired!” He growled, but Gethsemane didn’t care. She looked to Legion with a smile, and Legion quickly turned into a German Shepherd, who walked by her side.

'Now we're out of a job," Legion said telepathically, as Gethsemane just rolled her eyes. 'Gethsemane, I don't understand why you don't look too worried. It's now illegal for us to hunt Devoratrix.'

Gethsemane rolled her dark blue eyes again, and let out a deep sigh. "It's not illegal as long as no one finds out," Gethsemane smiled devilishly, as she looked down and spoke to her friend. "I think you're the one who needs to stop being so worried, we'll just do it in secret."

'And there's your mother in you.' Legion sighed, and shook his head slowly, as he looked to his feet. In his K-9 form, he couldn't do much to show emotion. The two continued walking down the street, stopping suddenly.

Legion quickly turned human once more, materializing one of his many blades. "You sense that?" He muttered as he turned towards Gethsemane.

"G," Legion muttered, his eyes wide, fear clearly evident on his face. "that was human."

Legion and G raced to where the noises were, only to turn the corner to.. Nothing. There was absolutely nothing. The alley was littered with trash, and a fence at the back to keep people from trespassing. It was dark, but a fairly sized alley. One of the dumpsters was turned on its side, and a purple-ish black handprint was faded. It was a large one, but it didn’t seem to be a Devoratrix. It could’ve passed as ink or so, but Legion had a gut feeling it wasn’t. He walked towards it, and touched it, trying to figure out what it was. “Legio-” Gethsemane started but soon was cut off. Legion spun around quickly, to find his partner with a knife to her throat and a hand around her mouth. She remained frozen, not wanting to temp whoever it was holding the blade.

“Who are you?” Legion asked, standing tall. He put one of his hands around his back, materializing one of his blades.

“I am a nobody,” The person responded quietly, tightening their grip on Gethsemane.

“Nobodies are always somebody,” Legion responded, as he took a few steps forward slowly. He didn’t want to move too fast, and this human get hurt.

“Stop moving.” The person sighed, releasing their grip on Gethsemane, and pushing her forward. She instantly spun around and pulled her weapon on the person, pushing them into a brick wall behind them. G pulled off the black hood the person was wearing, only revealing a teenage girl, she looked around seventeen or eighteen at most. “I’m Arosaria Dawn,”

“Daughter of Daxton Dawn?” Gethsemane asked.Arosaria nodded. A smirk danced on her face devilishly. Her eyes turned to meet Legion’s, and she let the kid go.

“Gethsemane, don’t do it,” Legion said telepathically, shaking his head and giving her a look of ‘Do it and there will be consequences, you fucking idiot’.

“What? Tell the child I killed her father? And get arrested? Do I look that stupid to you, L?” Gethsemane sassed him, rolling her eyes in the process. She turned her attention back to the girl, who was standing there silently. You could easily tell she was on edge, she didn’t know who either of them were. “I am Gethsemane Kalidia,” She spoke softly, “and this is Legion Miach. My familiar and most trusted companion.”

The girl looked at the pair and then put her small blade away. She probably wouldn’t have done much damage with it, but neither of them wanted to take any risks. The girl motioned for both of them to follow her, and so they did.

They walked a few blocks before stopping at some sort of old abandoned hotel, cobwebs, and rust was the first thing Legion and G noticed. Some of the windows were broken into, and graffiti littered the wall like trash on the side of the highway. Aside from that, the walls were brick and concrete, and it seemed to be about twelve stories high. The girl walked towards the back of the building, and to that, they followed once more. Obedient, yet on guard, Gethsemane, and Legion followed her into a dark room. They both pulled their weapons and readied themselves for any sort of attack. Legion easily heard the sound of a lever being switched and the lights came on, illuminating the hotel beautifully. It was clean, despite the way the outside looked. The hotel looked as though it was ready for a grand opening, allowing guests from anywhere to stay there as long as they’d like. “Here we have where a lot of us stay,” Arosaria smiled, as she rang the silver bell at the front desk a few times.

Gethsemane tilted her head as people could be heard talking from other rooms. “You knew my father,” She smiled. “You must’ve known how brilliant he was too, then?” She asked with a smile playing on her face like a broken record. Gethsemane didn’t buy it.

“I suppose so,” Legion replied, as he shot G a quick glance. Easily saying it’s time to go. Soon enough, quite a few people rounded the corner coming down the stairs and stopped dead in their places as they stared at Gethsemane and Legion. They readied themselves again, unsure of what to expect. Legion’s blade moved swiftly as he decided to show off. He didn’t think Arosaria was ugly, the only problem was that she was extremely young for him. And human. Humans aged slowly compared to familiars. They’re fully grown in roughly twelve or thirteen years, versus humans take 18-25.

“Relax,” Arosaria chuckled, as she rolled her eyes and motioned for everyone to come down and introduce themselves to each other. “We are outcasts from the magical world. We are children of those with supernatural abilities, but we do not possess the same as them,”

“But children born without any form of supernatural abilities in our world- they’re killed off as infants,” Legion interrupted, his eyebrows furrowed. They shouldn’t be alive. They should all be dead. Torn away from their parents as babies, and murdered without mercy.

“The only reason we are alive is because of our parents. My mother was a human. Everyone is part human here, as well.” Arosaria started, changing her glance between the people and Gethsemane and Legion. “My mother was knocked up by my dad, Daxton, and was supposed to get an abortion before my father left. No one could know of their relationship. One day, my father disappeared. No one had seen him or heard from him ever again. My mother was devastated, left pregnant with a child, alone, broken. She couldn’t bring herself to giving me up. So she didn’t, and here I am.”

“Interesting story,” Legion replied, exchanging glances with Gethsemane. She only rolled her eyes in reply.

“Thank you,” Arosaria looked to her feet. “These are my friends. Zephyr, Storm, Alkai, Mekhi, and my half brother Archer. Whom is also a descendant of my father’s.” None of the people looked older than nineteen at most, leaving Gethsemane and Legion questioning that even further.

“Nice to meet you all,” Gethsemane replied softly, her brown eyes took in her surroundings carefully. Arosaria smiled once more, before shaking hands with the two.

“Thank you both for coming,” She replied. “You had no reason to trust us, yet you did.”

“No, I didn’t,” Gethsemane smirked. “I just wanted to see how bad you’d try to fuck us over,”

“Close enough,” she replied.

Soon enough, they were getting a tour of the hotel. They passed a ballroom, cafeteria, game room, there was even some sort of daycare at one point. “Why’d you keep everything the same?” Gethsemane mumbled.

“We just do. In case we can ever open it up again in the future, I guess.” Storm replied. A welcoming, friendly smile played on her face neatly. It suited her. Too bad it’s fake.

“Respectable,” Legion replied with a small smile of his own. He liked the small Storm girl. She was interesting to him. He watched her with lust in his eyes, and a smile on his lips.

A while later they came across some sort of dining room. The entire group walked in, and some of Arosaria’s friends must’ve disappeared to the kitchen to prepare for dinner or so. “You must be wondering why I brought you here,” Arosaria started, as she pulled some chairs out for Legion and Gethsemane to sit in.

“Yes, of course,” Legion said as his eyes met Arosaria’s. He knew then something was way off. Her eyes had changed color. They weren’t blue as he had seen every other time he looked at her. No, now they were orange. They did possess some sort of supernatural abilities.

“Heads up, G. They’re playing games.” Legion quickly muttered, and G didn’t reply. She didn’t want it to be obvious they were having a conversation, especially if these guys weren’t who they claimed to be.

“My father, he was a very admirable man.” Arosaria started. “Everyone half-born possess some sort of ability. It can be anything.”

“Alright,” Gethsemane muttered.

“Now with that being said, the most common ability for half-borns is something, rather, odd.” She continued, as she began to move closer to the pair. They both put their hands on their weapons again. They sensed something incredibly off. “Any one of us who was found to have this ability was… immediately killed off, or disposed of.”

“Continue…” Legion tilted his head and narrowed his eyes. Neither G nor Legion understood what she was getting at. They weren’t taught much about half-borns in school.

“We, everyone here in this building, were lucky to hide ourselves here in this old hotel, which isn’t exactly as you see it,” Arosaria said. Gethsemane and Legion looked to each other once more. The wallpaper on the walls started peeling itself down, and the floors started to rot and mold, cobwebs appeared and dirt and dust littered everything. As they watched the room around them fall apart, the two hadn’t realized the restraints tying them to their chairs. “If I didn’t get an old witch to cast a spell, you wouldn’t have come inside, to begin with,”

“Arosaria…” Gethsemane growled.

“You killed my father,” Arosaria yelled. Her teeth began to grow, and she became more monster-ish. “We are outcasts, thrown from the magical world because we possess a crave for anyone with angelic magic in their veins,”

“Oh shit,” Gethsemane muttered, and she raised her eyebrows, and desperately tried to free herself from the ropes restraining her. She looked to Legion, who was completely gone now. Looking around for him, he was nowhere in sight.

“Don’t worry about the familiar. We don’t want that.” She smiled. Her teeth are as sharp as razors, and as pointy as toothpicks before they’re used. ”You killed my father and thus you shall pay with your life,”

"No…" Gethsemane nervously laughed. “No, I don’t think I will.”

“You literally have no choice. Shut the fuck up. I’m not done.” Arosaria rolled her now dark orange-ish looking eyes. “It’s a good thing we’re hungry.”

“Is that it? You told me to shut the fuck up over that?” G snorted. Her eyes scanned her surroundings again. She saw Arosaria’s friends from the corner of her eye.

“I think that was pretty badass,” She replied. “What do y’all think?” She asked her friends who stood in the corner like loners at a school dance, or a scout at an event who’s too introverted to walk up and make friends.

“Could’ve been better,”
