Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1
Fear… fear and anxiety is what I felt when I woke up.
These feelings where uncontrollable, it felt as if a dagger was stabbed in my heart and the wound healed around it.
After collecting my consciousness and calming down a bit, I sat up from where I was laying and looked around the room where I was.
This place was unrecognizable; I have never been in a room like this one.
Three of the walls that made the room were white, and the other one was a mirror pane, that might have been a one-way glass like the ones that police departments have in their interrogation rooms, but I wouldn’t know.
The object I was laying on looked like a type of stretcher, but it was a little different. This stretcher bed had metal arms on the sides that came over to the center of its own body and had about 5 small holes or so on each arm, leather straps made part of the aluminum side rails located near the area where the patient’s wrists and feet would be, it was also bolted to the floor and situated in the center of the white room.
I looked at myself in the mirror and noticed that I was wearing a hospital gown. Everything was really strange, I didn’t get what was going on, or realize that the patient in this room was obviously me.
In the far corner of the room to my right was a white table with some clothes resting on it. They didn’t seem familiar but I supposed they were mine.
I stood up from where I was and stumbled a bit, my legs felt somewhat weak and tired, maybe that’s why I was in this weird hospital. I made my way to the white table in the corner and picked up the clothes, I looked at them and they seemed my size.
My first instinct was to put these clothes on, but I thought to myself “What if someone comes?” I mean, I was in a “hospital”, the obvious assumption would be that doctors and nurses worked here.
So I walked to the white door located behind the stretcher bed and turned the cold metal door knob, I peeked my head though and looked down a somewhat long hallway, mimicking the color of the room.
This hallway had doors all along the walls that looked like patient rooms. At the end of the hallway was a door that looked like an exit, and at the other end was just a regular wall, my room was the last one.
It was really cold in the hallway, much colder than the room where I woke up. Eventually I opened my mouth and echoed a “hello” through this cold long area, but there was no answer or reaction from the other rooms.
So I decided to go back in to the room and check the pockets of the clothes on the table, I figured that if they were mine there would be a cellphone or something to contact someone in them.
I checked the pockets in the pants and found a phone. I immediately decided that I should call… No one, I couldn’t think of anyone, in fact I couldn’t remember anyone, or even who I was, I tried to recollect basic information about myself. Where was I from? How old am I? What is my name? But nothing came to mind.
I panicked a bit, and thought to myself that I should check the contacts in the phone, so that’s exactly what I did.
I scrolled down the apps and tapped on the contact icon, but there weren’t any numbers registered in the phone.
I was at a loss, I didn’t know who I was or where I was, and I didn’t know who to talk to obtain this information.
I sat the phone down on the table and kept checking the pockets of the wear. I found a USB hard drive in the front pocket opposite of the pocket where the phone was.
I held the USB stick in my hand and stared at it trying to recognize it, but it didn’t look anything familiar, I thought maybe it had information on myself and that with this I could figure out who I was, but without a way to look at its content it was useless.
So I put on the clothes and placed the cellphone and the hard drive in my pocket and set myself towards the door. As I walked I looked in the mirror to see the person in the reflection but I didn’t see anything or anyone familiar.
Eventually I opened the door and stepped in to the cold hallway, I slowly walked though this long passage way, and as I looked at every door on the wall I grew a little wearier, I felt so alone and not in the way that I felt strange not knowing who I was, I actually felt like I was the only living thing in this place…. Utter loneliness, and a loud silence.
Finally, I made it to the double door at the end of the hall, I sat both my hands on its face and I slowly pushed it open.
The site that my eyes embraced was something so strange and so abnormal, that it made me question the ideas I had about my presence in this place.Start writing here…
