Chapter One

You discover a diary and start reading where the bookmark is, which happens to be the last entry in the diary. This one entry gives you a grand insight into that person’s life.

Savannah had grown up as a only child. She was a curious child and very pretty. She had her mothers straight black hair and her fathers lavender eyes. Her parents were older than most when she was born but they loved her dearly. She was named after her mothers grandmother but always wished she had been named after her mother Sandra.

Savannah was making all of her arrangements to go to her parents house in Colorado. They lived in a small town called Manitou Springs, they have been there for as long as Savannah could remember. Savannah always liked going home and seeing her parents and visiting the small quaint town that she had grown up in. Her parents were respected by everyone in their small town. Her mother was the local Doctor and her father had been the local Lawyer until he retired a year ago. They used to talk about how they had moved out of the big city to this little town to get away and to raise a family, but in the end they only ever had Savannah.

Savannah had the best relationship with her parents and they always supported her in everything she did, even when she had told them that she was moving to the city, to get a job at one of the major newspapers. Savannah wanted to be a journalist and her parents were very proud of her when she called and told them that she had been hired at the paper she was wanting to work at.

"Mom, I got the job. I am a journalist, I am going to be able to write the important stories that I have always wanted to write. I am so happy mom. You and Dad don't have to worry about anything anymore. I love you both."

Mom laughed and said "We love you too Savannah Dear."

Savannah spent all of her time at the news paper. She worked hard and two years after she had started there she was able to choose which stories she wanted to write and which ones she would delegate to someone else on her team to write. When everyone else went out on Friday nights she had stayed to make sure that all the stories that her team were working on would be in the morning paper. She knew her parents were worried about her as it seemed as if she didn’t make time for herself at all and never took a break.

Savannah was making all of her arrangements to go to her parents house in Colorado. They lived in a small town called Manitou Springs, they have been there for as long as Savannah could remember. Savannah always liked going home and seeing her parents and visiting the small quaint town that she had grown up in. Her mother was the local doctor and her father had been the local Lawyer. They used to talk about how they had moved out of the big city to this little town to get away and to raise a family, but in the end they only ever had Savannah.

She never went home for the holiday's. Her parents and her had decided that they would rather have her home for two weeks for the month of July then to just have her home for a weekend for the holiday's. So she would always call ahead to let them know the exact time that she would be leaving and would find out where they were going to be. As her parents got older they would go to the beach house instead of camping.

Savannah tried calling to let them know that she was going to be there in a week but there was no answer so she left a message telling them to get back in touch with her as soon as they could. She finished packing and went to bed early. The next morning she got up early so that she could call her parents again but there still was no answer. By this time she was getting worried because they always answered their phone early in the morning. Because they did not answer her, she called her mom's sister Rose, to find out if she had heard from her parents. Her Aunt Rose answered right away like she was waiting for the call.

Aunt Rose questioned her in a stern voice " Savannah, What took you so long to call? I thought you called your parents everyday. Why aren't you here?"

" I called them last night to let them know I was coming out there and I called them again this morning because they didn’t call me back. When I didn’t get them this morning I called you Aunt Rose, so what is going on?"

" Savannah your mom and dad have been in a accident. You need to get out here right

away they are not doing good."

" I am on my way."

" Let us know what time your plane will arrive and we will pick you up."

" I will call you right back with my itinerary. Can you please book me in a hotel close to the hospital Aunt Rose?"

"You will stay with us, your Uncle Ed agrees, you need to be with family right now."

"Ok, I will talk to you in a little bit."

Savannah, called her boss to let her know that she was going to have to take sometime off work because her parents were in the hospital due to a accident. Her boss Cynthia was also her best friend, so she gave Savannah all the time that she needed and made sure that she knew her job would be waiting for her when she got back. Once she had hung up the phone she called her Aunt and let her know when she would arrive. Finally everything was done all she had to do now was pack a few things, call a cab and head to the airport.

Once at the airport she found a Starbucks and bought herself the largest latte that they had. As she was waiting for her flight to be called she started thinking back to when she was a kid still living at home. All her friends had loved her parents, even though they were older then most of her friends parents they were a lot of fun to be with. Sometimes she would tease her friends saying that they only liked her so that they could visit her parents. Funny thing is, most of her friends still kept in touch with her parents almost as much as she did, in fact at Christmas she found out that her parents had three of her high school friends there for the Holidays and that they were all having a really good time. Savannah remembered that she had found that she was a little jealous that her friends were with her parents and she wasn't able to be.

Savannah got off the plane and found her Uncle Ed standing at the gate waiting for her to get off the plane. He was still as good looking as he always was, tall, dark hair and blue eyes. Uncle Ed walked over and took my suitcase, right away he started talking about her parents and how he was going to take her right to the hospital. He let her know that he would drop her off at the hospital and take her clothes with him to the house. Uncle Ed told her what rooms her parents were in and then left, letting her know that he would be back to get her later. She went to her Fathers room first and pulled a chair over to his bedside, she leaned over and kissed her Father on the cheek.

" I love you Daddy. Please get better soon, I need you and Mama to be ok. Please Daddy, I promise I will come home and stay with both of you for as long as you need me to."

" Anna, is that you?"

" Yes, Daddy it is me and I am not going anywhere. I have to go see Mama later but for now I am going to stay right here. Can you tell me what happened in the accident, do you remember anything?"

"The only thing that I remember is that there was a green light and then we were hit on the passenger's side. Your Mom was not moving when the ambulance got to the scene, they wouldn't let me talk to her or even see her. Please go find out how your Mom is."

" Ok Dad, I will go ask the doctor how she is doing and then I will come right back to have lunch with you."

As she walked into the corridor she saw a nurse. Savannah asked the nurse where her Mother's room was and for directions. As she walked into her mother's room she noticed the doctor. When she asked the doctor how her Mother was doing he ushered her out of the room and asked her to come to his office. The doctor motioned for Savannah to sit down, then he walked behind the desk opened the medical folder and started telling her that her mother was in need of a kidney.

" Why does my Mom need a kidney, what exactly happened to my mother? "

" Your mothers kidney was injured in the accident. You haven't seen your mother yet have you?"

" No I haven't."

" You should go see her while you can. Your mother is in the ICU, Savannah, she is not doing very well. Infact I am not sure that she is going to make it through the night. I am going to move your father into her room so that they can spend some time together."

" Ok, I will go to her room now. Is there anything that I can do? Can I give her one of my kidney's?"

" That could be a good possibility, we will run some tests and see if you would be a match. More than likely you will be, but for now just go visit with your mother."

As I walked into the room, I almost cried, seeing my mom laying in the bed so helpless and all bandaged up. She was always the cheerful one, she could make me smile even when I wanted to sit down and cry. And now she was laying in a bed so bad off that the doctor was sure she wouldn't make it through the night. I was reading to her out of one of the books that I had brought along on the plane, as I was reading I started thinking back when I was young, my mom would tuck me into bed and then her and Dad would sit on the edge of the bed and each would read me a story. By the time they were done I would be sound a sleep. As I got older I asked them if they could stop tucking me into bed, that I wasn't a little girl anymore. Now I wished that I had never asked them not to quit reading to me cause there was nothing more that I wanted more then my mom reading to me. Dad was wheeled into the room, they put his bed right next to mom's. I was glad that we were all together in one little room. Dad fell asleep soon after the move and I laid in the folding chair with a blanket over me. Every time a nurse would come in I would check on mom and dad, I didn't get much sleep while mom and dad were there.

My Aunt Rose was the one who came to pick me up at the hospital, I asked her to take me over to mom and dad's house so that I could pick up a few things that I knew mom would want. At first Aunt Rose argued with me saying that I could wait and get the things in a couple of days, and that I should really take some time to rest at their house. That almost made me laugh as it was a known fact that if you wanted to rest you did not go to Aunt Rose's house to do it. They had eight children and all of them but one was a very loud child and that one had moved away as soon as she had turned eighteen. As we pulled into the driveway of my parents house their neighbor came running over and gave me a hug.

"How are your parents doing Savannah? We have all been worried sick. I have called the hospital a number of times but they wouldn't give me any information, something to do with the request of the family."

"I never requested that Marge, so you give me about a hour and then you can call to get a update anytime you want. I need to get a few things for my mom and then I am going back to the hospital if I can get my aunt to drive me back."

"I can drive you after dinner and you can stay here or at the hospital, we will keep a eye on the house as we have a spare key. So you tell your aunt that she can go and we will make sure that you get the rest you need."

I walked over to the drivers side and told aunt rose that I was going to be having dinner with Marge and her husband and that Marge would take me back to the hospital when I was ready to go. Aunt Rose wasn't happy but there wasn't to much she could do about it. She did tell me that she would be going to the hospital after dinner and that she could pick me up on her way. I had to tell her that I would probably already be there when she got there as I was not going to stay away for very long. After Aunt Rose left I gave Marge a hug and we headed into the house.

Once we were in the house Marge handed me the house keys to my parents house and told me to go ahead over to their house while she fixed dinner. She said that if I wasn’t back by the time she was done she would send her husband Dave over to get me. So with keys in hand I headed over to the house to get a few things for my parents.

It was a little weird to be in my parents house without them here. I twirled the keys as I headed up the stairs to my bedroom to get a few changes of clothes for myself. As I turned right on the landing I opened my bedroom door and found out that my bedroom was now a library. As I walked in the room I found two cozy chairs and a bunch of books. There was a sink and a coffee pot in one corner and a door on the wall between the bookshelves. When I opened the door I found a small bath closet with just a sink and a toilet.

I thought to myself as I looked through the books, “ I wonder if they ever really wanted me. If they hadn’t had me they could have had this room a long time ago. I made a pot of coffee while I was waiting for the coffee I started looking through the books. I found a small leather book with a leather string wrapped around it. When the coffee was done, I poured a cup and sat down on one of the cozy chairs. As I opened the book I realized it was a diary. I pulled my knees up into the chair and began reading.

Dear Diary,

This will probably be the first and last entry that I enter in here. This is going to be hard to explain but I am going to try. My husband and I have been on retainer for the Johnson’s, I was their personal doctor and Philip was their personal lawyer. They had money and allowed us to live in their guess house. It wasn’t but three month’s after they had their little girl that they had to go out of town. They asked us if we could take care of her while they were out of town, of course we said that we would.

Later that night we were notified by the police, they told us that the Johnson’s had been in a accident, there were no survivors. Our whole world was turned upside down. We weren’t sure what we were supposed to do so we started looking for their things to find out if they had any relatives. After a couple of days of searching we found out that they really were alone. Neither one of them had any living relatives. All of a sudden Philip remembered that he had just up dated their will.

Philip started reading the updated will and realized that without even thinking about it they had made us the care givers of their little baby girl if anything happened to them. There is only one catch, we can’t ever let her know that we are not her parents, not until she is 26 years old.

I am going to write down her name here so that when she wants it she can have it and the money that goes with it. The will also stated that we had to change Little Isabelle’s name to something that would make people think that she was our little girl. We were supposed to use the money to support her, but we were supposed to close up the house and move away with their baby girl. We had to make sure that we changed her name and made sure that we went someplace where no one would know weather we had a baby or not. Neither Philip or I don’t feel right about using the money.

So we put it in a trust fund that she would be able to get when she reached the age of 26. We also closed up the house and hired someone to check on it every month and to keep the grounds up. Every now and then while we are in the area we will have to go by and make sure that everything is getting done.

Baby Girl if you are reading this I pray that you realize that we love you as if you were our own little girl, and that we would never have lied to you if there was anyway we could have told you. I am sorry for keeping this a secret but there was a reason your parents did what they did and when you get done reading this come and talk to us and we will tell you everything that we know. But know this always we Love you so very much Little Savannah.

Savannah finished reading the diary and headed to her parents room to get a few of their things and a change of clothes. Once she was done she locked up the house and headed back over to Marge’s house. I walked in and could smell the food cooking. Marge turned around and right away knew that there was something wrong. She came over and told me to sit down and tell her what was going on. Once I finished the story of the Diary she just patted my hand and told me that I needed to talk to my parents as soon as possible.

Chapter Two

How many secrets are there in my Parents life? And where do I go from here?

I asked Marge how long she had known my parents, she said that she had known them for about 23 years. She told me that they were such a cute couple, getting their careers going and then deciding to have a baby. They were so proud of you, and would bring you into town whenever they could to show her off.

I asked her " So you knew them before I was born?"

"Yes, Dave and I met them when we were all in college. We lost track of them when they moved to the big city for a few years. Then after a couple of years I received a letter from your mom telling me that they had a baby girl and were wanting to move out here and asked if we could help them find a little place out of the way. They knew that we were in real estate so they were sure we would find what they needed and we did. As soon as they saw the house they fell in love with it, they made an offer the same day that they had looked at it."

While Marge had been talking she had motioned for me to set the table and a few minutes later Dave came in and sat down. He was a good looking man even though he was old enough to be my dad I had always thought that he was handsome. When I was a little girl I would tell him that I was going to marry him when I got to be a lady. He always told me the same thing.

" Peanut when you get old enough to get married you will no longer want to marry me, but that is ok I will always love you peanut."

Even now when he came in and asked me if I was going to stay with them in their guest room. He called me Peanut, I told him that my name was Savannah now and that I was all grown up. He told me with a wink, “You will always be Peanut to me no matter how grown up you get.”

So I ignored him and told Dave that I was thinking about staying at the hospital tonight just in case something happened to mom. He told me that they would take me back to the hospital so that they could visit with my parents and then if the doctor said that they were doing ok they would wait with me until I was ready to go. He also told me that the hospital was only five minutes away and that I should think about staying at the house so that I could rest better. I told him that I would think about it. Dinner was really good, we talking about me wanting to marry Dave and laughed and some of the things that we had done together when I was growing up. I helped Marge with the dishes and then we got ready to go visit Mom and Dad.

Mom was still in acoma but Dad was awake and able to talk. Him and Dave started talking about the accident and I found out that it had been the other driver's fault. That driver was arrested and put in jail, I really thought it was my mom's fault but it wasn't.

I gave my mom a kiss and whispered in her ear , " I am so sorry Mom,I love you so much , you have to wake up."

I walked over to my Dad and gave him a kiss and asked him how he was doing? He told me that he was doing ok but that he was still having some problems with headache's.

" Dad have you told anyone that you are having headache's?

" No, cause they need to take care of your mother, I am doing ok."

" No Dad your not. Uncle Dave, can you find the doctor for me please."

" OK Peanut, I'll go see if I can find the doctor or a nurse that can help us."

While Dave went to go find someone to help Dad with his headache I talked to Marge about staying for the night. She told me that it was up to me but that they were only five minutes away. So if there were any changes, it would only take a few minutes to get there and be with him. She also told me that it was way closer then when I was in New York. I laughed and told her that she was right and that if they were able to take care of dad's headache I would be willing to go to the house to get some rest. A few minutes later a nurse came in with Dave and gave dad something for his headache. We stayed about a hour longer and then we headed for home, or actually over to Marge and Dave's house. Marge brought me some sheets and blankets, gave me a hug good night and told me that she would wake me up if the hospital were to call about either one of my parents. I told her good night and went to bed.

About way through the night Marge came and woke me up and told me Dave was waiting in the car to take me to the hospital, something was wrong with my Dad. I hurried up and put my clothes on and ran out the door. By the time we got to the hospital my Dad was in acoma, I looked at Dave and asked:

"What is happening to my family?"

Dave said that he would find out while I stayed there with my Father. I am so afraid that I will never be able to talk to either of my parents again. I started asking myself all kinds of questions.

Why didn't I come home more often then twice a year? Why didn't I move home when Mom fell and broke her leg? When I told Cynthia that my Mom had fallen and broke her leg she told me that I could do my work from my parents house if I needed to,now I look back and I see that I should have.

Dave said that he would find out while I stayed there with my Father. I am so afraid that I will never be able to talk to either of my parents again. I started asking myself all kinds of questions.

When I told Cynthia that my Mom had fallen and broke her leg she told me that I could do my work from my parents house if I needed to,now I look back and I see that I should have. Now my parents have been in a accident and I can't talk to them and ask them why they never told me that they were not my real parents. I had this real weird feeling that Marge and Dave knew more about my real parents then they let on. Dave walked in the room with the doctor right behind him, the doctor walked over to my dad and checked him for a fever and then examined him. When I asked him what was going on he just said that he was going to have to run some tests.

The doctor told the nurse what tests he wanted ran and then he left the room telling me that he would call me when he found anything. I informed him that he would not have to call me because I would stay with my parents until they were ready to come home. The doctor told the nurse to get me some coffee and to have another bed put in my parents room so that I would be able to rest. Once the doctor left Uncle Dave came over to me and gave me a hug.

" Peanut I am going to head for home if you need anything call me or Marge and we will come back right away. Do you want me to call your Aunt and let her know what is going on with your parents?"

" Um, yes please Uncle Dave. I love you and Aunt Marge so much."

" We love you too Peanut."

I spent the night laying in the bed waiting to find out what was going on with my dad. Every time I would hear him snore I would get up and check up on him, finally at around 10:00 this morning the doctor finally came back in with the results. The doctor had such a serious look on his face I knew the tests results were bad, how bad I wasn't sure.

" Your Father has a Traumatic Brain Injury. What that means is that when the accident happened your father suffered a violent jolt to the head and as a result in damage to the brain. As the brain collides with the inside of the skull, there was bruising of the brain, tearing of nerve fibers and bleeding. What I am worried about is that there could be brain damage. We will be monitoring him closely as there could be bleeding.

" What would be the worse case scenario for my father, Doctor?"

" That would be death but I am not going to even consider that right now. I am sure that he will be alright, we just have to run a few more tests on him to make sure that is brain has not been damaged. I will have a nurse bring you up a tray of food. I will be back in to check on him and your mother before I leave for the day."

" OK Doctor, thank you."

A half hour later a nurse came in with a tray of food and a pot of coffee. Right behind her was Marge and Dave coming in to see me carrying a suitcase and a bag, Marge had a bouquet of flowers that she set on my mom's night stand. She leaned over and whispered in my mom's ear, " I brought your favorite flower's Sandi and I brought you my kidney, so hopefully I will see you awake in the morning."

" What did you say? Your giving my mom one of your kidney's, how is that possible? Are you related to her and if so how are you related to her?"

" No I'm not but for some reason I was a match which the doctor say's that it does happen. We were as surprised as you are, I mean, your Aunt Rose didn't match your mom, which she should have as she is her sister."

" That is all too weird, but then everything is very weird as of late and nothing is as it seems to be. Anyway what did you bring in the bag and in the suitcases?"

Dave started taking out the items in the bag, it was all my favourite fast food. And the suitcase was full of everything I would need to be comfortable staying here, my nightie, slippers, towels etc. I knew right away that my Aunt Marge had packed the suitcase. I gave her a hug and made sure that she knew that I was happy with everything she did for me and my parents.

A nurse came in and told Marge that it was time for her to get ready for her surgery. Then the team that was going to do the surgery came in to get my mother. I went over and gave her a kiss on the forehead and told her that I loved her and that she had to come back to me. Dave came over and gave me a hug and told the nurse that we were going down to the cafeteria for something to eat and that if they couldn't find us there we would be in the room.

It seemed like it took forever but it gave me time to talk to Dave about the curious way things turned out that Marge was a match for my mom and I wasn't. When I asked Dave how Marge knew that my mom was going to need a kidney, he answered quietly.

" Marge tried to tell Sandi and Phil that they needed to tell you that your mom was having kidney problems and that she was going to have to go on dialysis before the year was up. She didn't want you to know because she knew that you would be upset, so she asked Marge if there was anyway that we would be tested to see if we could be a match. We were tested and Marge was a match."

" Why wouldn't they have told me, I don't understand why they wouldn't want me to know."

" Maybe because they both knew that you would quit your job and come home to take care of her and that is not what they wanted for you."

I had to stop and think about it. Then I smiled, I knew they were right I would have quit my job and come back to take care of them but what they didn't know is that I had already decided to take a leave of absents and my boss told me that I could write from here for now. I decided not to tell Dave, I knew that he would try to talk me into going back home. I was not going to let anyone else take care of these people who had raised me as their own child and had loved me as a daughter. It was funny because when I first found out that I was not their daughter I was hurt and then very angry but now, it didn't really seem to matter at all.

The next few days went by fast as I had more people visiting me and my parents, everyone seemed to be getting along for the most part but once Mom woke up things changed. You would think that it would have been Dave, Marges husband who was complaining but it wasn't it was my Aunt Rose. She was so upset that she wasn't a match that she started in on some deep dark secret that she had kept quiet about long enough. Mom begged her to stop and think about what she was doing, and how bad it would hurt the family but Aunt Rose wouldn't hear of it. Even Uncle Edward could not get her to shut up so I did.

"Aunt Rose are you talking about the diary?"

"What Diary, I have no idea what you are talking about. So let me tell you what I need to tell you about your so called parents and their neighbors."

" No let me tell you what I know. My name was Isabelle when I was born and I was born to a couple that Sandra and Philip worked for, the Johnson's. They were in some kind of trouble so they left me with Philip and Sandra and told them to tell me that they were my parents and that I would never need to know but Philip and Sandra had decided that when I was old enough they were going to tell me the truth. That is why they had wanted me to be here for my 25th birthday, they were going to tell me that they were not my real parents. But I know something that you do not know Aunt Rose."

"What is that, you smart little girl who thinks she knows everything?"

" I know that Marge and Dave are my parents and that is why they have always been there for me . See they didn't die in a car accident at all they had witnessed a murder and were afraid that the murderer would come after them so they made up a story that everyone would believe and then they went into witness protection without their little girl just so that they could keep her safe. Sandra and Philip found a cottage in Manitou and moved there not aware that that was where Marge and Dave were. I am sure they were all surprised when they realized that they were next door neighbors. See that is why they are all so close and that is why you are so jealous of them. But I am a very fortunate girl as I have two sets of parents who care for me enough to keep this horrible secret going just for my safety. So now Aunt Rose you can leave, Uncle Edward you can stay as you helped me find out the truth but I do not want her here upsetting my mom, either one of them."

Chapter Three

That was six month's ago my parents are both home now and we are all doing really good. Aunt Rose came around but it took a bit, there have been some changes since everyone found out that I knew the whole truth. Let me tell you about my life now, it will surprise you maybe a little bit.

I got my inheritance and built a house right behind both my parents house's, we have adjoining gates so that we can come and go as we please and we have dinner together every saturday and sunday. I love my life now more than ever.
